Capacitor rip off

I just purchased a start capacitor for my Dometic Penguin heat pump/ AC
from a RV supplier on Orlando (Camper Connection) for $36.95. Last year I purchased the same Capacitor for 34.95 from a supplier in The Keys.
Today I ordered 3 for future needs from an electrical supplier in Northern Illinois for $3.80 flus $7 shipping. Why does this industry tolerate these obvious rip offs? I do not think it was the RV supplier but the Dometic company doing the ripping off!

RE: auto start for genny??

Our RV is equipped with a auto start system that works with either low battery conditions or thermostat settings . Have used the low battery condition but have not used the thermostat setting yet.

AC capacitors

Can anyone think of a reason my AC's would be burning up capacitors frequently? Replaced both in Feb failed within 3 2009 ( they both burned up within 3 days of ea. other.) Same symptom of start/stop compressors every few seconds and smell of electric burn in air.
Thanks
Dave

RE: Tiffin Zephyr or Newmar Mountain Aire - REVISED

New mar is the way to go. I was looking at Tiffin when I bought the MountainAire and really felt the Mountainaire was superior to the zephyr in all areas. Fit Finish and overall quality was superior and worth the extra cost.

RE: You ever stay in a Walmart parking lot?

I agree on the truck stops and rest areas, at least they are somewhat supervised. I never felt secure in the wal marts I have stayed at. I will always look for a commercial site even though it cost money so I can feel more secure. I prefere truck stops and rest areas...

RE: Do YOU use exhaust brake when raining?

If it is to slick to use the exhaust brake then it is to slick for me to drive. I never drive on slick roads but do not consider most rain covered roads to be too slick.

RE: sleep with generator on

in similar situations we set the energy management system to turn the generator and AC on a specified temps. Everything shuts off when that temp is reached and usually lasts most of the nite.

RE: You ever stay in a Walmart parking lot?

We have when nightfall comes and we cannot find a nearby campground. I agree that it is sometimes a bit noisy and sometimes get a feeling that security si not so good. We to always ask manager and try to make sure we do a little shopping when there.

Volkswagen EOS

For anyone who may be interested in towing this great car, I have just heard from Roadmaster that they are now making the tow plates for the EOS. You can tow the standard transmission 4 down.

RE: What soap do you use to wash the rig

I use that pink stuff from Camping World. I think it is called Gel Coat. Works well and no spots. Kind of pricey though.

RE: Our Stressfull Nightmare purchasing from Demartini RV?

I have been a member of this forum for a couple years and there always seems to be a few whom insist on (beating down the buyer)
Anyone who gets screwed around always carries some of the responsibility of course. I guess you guys have nothing better to do and it always seems to be the same members. we did notice the batteries and oil and due to the low mileage on the coach were aware of the problem. The point is we did not make any promises on the deal we did not carry through with. The dealer on the other hand told us the oil had been changed and the batteries although used were load tested and checked and were o.k., among other issues.
when you take your car in for an oil change do you climb under the car and make sure the filter was changed and pull the dipstick to see if they really changed the oil. I doubt it! There is a certain amount of trust we all instill in ourselves as when someone says the work was done we assume it was done.
We love our coach and even though we spent good money on repairs, it was still a fair deal. That does not absolve Demartini of any of the******they pulled on us though.
We also did extensive research and recieved nothing but praise for Demartini although looking back all these customers bought new Monaco's and had their warranty work done elsewher.
Amen to the negative nellies who find fault with everyone. I understand your frustration with the critical posters and the Dealer.

RE: Is anyone here on Twitter?

I am signed up for twtter but much prefer facebook for keeping up with friends and relatives. I used Linkedin for keeping in touch with old business associates. I think that the new methods of staying current are terrific. I am more in touch with family and friends than ever before.
People who criticize us for enjoying the extraordinary communication devices available thru the internet are similar to those who demanded buggy whips be placed on the first autos!

RE: Looking for Used Class A for Family... Got Questions

I would check out the post by Telemark on this forum RE DiMartini. He has a decidedly different opinion of this dealer. Al;so I would not give them a $100.00 deposit without first checking out the motor home. If they demand a deposit then put it on a credit card so you can challenge it later if needed.
Good luck

RE: Photos and Video now available on RV.Net's new Community

Unfortunately there is this stupid pop up window that jumps in the way so you can't read anything about it. I can't close the window as the close button is above the top of the screen and can not be moved down. It is a bit ridicules that one can not even read anything about it with out a pop up window trying to get me to join. I do not approve of this manipulative way of doing things and strongly recommend others do not join. Manipulative interference is not an appropriate way to do business any more than pushy salesmen. How many times are we told to walk away when approached by a pushy salesmen. This in your face pop up is just as bad. Walk - no run away. We don't need pushy pop ups. What is that statement in your signature about honest people being unable to say the last two lines of our National anthem all about?
What would stop you? besides even a dishonest person could say them.

RE: WiFi in Motion

we use our AT&T air card everywhere we go to coast to coast and never have been disconected while in motion. Even in the far reaches of Maine and Big Bend park Texas. Speed is affected as the system switches to EDGE in some areas and is not as fast. If your cell phone works the aircard will work fine. At times you need to reset aircard to receive only the EDGE system.
We have unlimited use for $60.00 per month on Air card and also have unlimited on my IPhone for another $30.00 per month and same for Wife's BlackBerry. Total bill with two phones, an air card, texting and both hooked up to internet is over $200per month but worth is for continuous connection to friends and family.

RE: Top Ten Class A Diesel Pushers

This is my list....others will think I'm nuts.
Newell
Prevot conversions
Foretravel
Travel supreme...out of business, but still some available
Country coach
Newmar
Fleetwood....American line including Revolution
Mandalay...Thor
Monaco...out of business but still some available
Winnebago
Tiffin....not really known for quality but customer service is second to noneinteresting that you put Tiffin at bottom of your list. I would agree on lack of quality and also agree that they get more strokes for service than anyone else. Maybe poor quality is reason for all the service calls. Huh?
Have owned a Travel Supreme and do not rate it above Newmar that I now own.. Country Coach is also out of business so would take them off list.

RE: Is the brake away really need on the Ready Brake?

If you have brakes on a trailer (and a towed vehicle is a trailer) then the law says you must have a breakaway switch and cable. .
BrianWhere does that law apply? A toad is a toad not a trailer and no such law exists in ILL.

RE: Monaco Engineers (and Most Others)

Don't forget that Navistar is what was left of the great International Harvester company after a bankruptcy caused by very poor management of a once legendary company. Not sure that Cyrus McCormick would want to be in the RV business.
Monaco will be a diversion from their primary mission of delivering high quality heavy duty vehicles. They will fail within 2-3 yrs.
