RE: NASCAR & Tony...thoughts?

Ah...the Danica thing. Hey it's about the money...always was. Money for Nascar and money for Stewart/Hass. I think S/H are looking at her ride as a fully financed "test bed" for their other cars and they can still make a few bucks off of it at the same time. Nascar sees it as gold mine for them so it's a win/win for everyone! Well almost everyone...there's some deserving individuals that need a seat that she, a mediocre driver is taking. But she brings the bucks and that's what it's all about anymore it seems.

RE: NASCAR & Tony...thoughts?

If Kurt Busch did the same rant on live TV he would have been fined at least. He was suspended for this . +1 Joe...I agree and I'm a Stewart fan....He was out of line.

RE: Danica on the pole for Daytona 500

Im glad to see she did fine. I also do think I detected in her comments that she was a bit disappointed in her 8th place finish. She finished and finished well. She lacks the determination and experience the others dont of the final lap rush and got passed - but Im sure she will learn. I too am glad she did well...I think the disappointment was the realization of the schooling she got on the last lap....I think she was just stunned it happened that quick....

RE: Busch, Busch, finally finished

Wonder why we are talking about Kurt and not Danica? He may be a little shaky off the track, but she is REAL shaky on the track. It makes me crazy to see guys like Elliot Sadler and Brian Vickers sitting in the stands while she get a full season ride in the Cup next year. Put those guy in her equipment with the resources and personnel she has and I guarantee that they would not be riding around in 30th all day, 3 laps down. I agree downtheroad, but on the plus side we are hearing alot less about her period, which is a good thing. Give it a season or 2 and she will be back in the Indy series (if it is still around) where she can get the desired attention she needs before her looks start fading. I don't know if she could find a seat in Indycar if she came back. If she does it won't be in a top seed ride. She would probably be another Lynn St. James in mediocre equipment riding around as a moving chicane.

RE: Dodge is out and Allmendinger was tired...

If 125,000 fans in the stands is the new normality, it's still a huge crowd. That's more than pro football and basketball attract, on average. Indy and NASCAR posted their profits for the event, and they made plenty of money. Don't look for either to fold anytime soon. Maybe at Bristol. But I don't think it was even that. At Indy this year it looked empty and at 125,000 is mediocre based on the size of the place. You're right with the TV rights etc. IMS does make money on this event. As long as that continues the Brickyard will continue. When it doesn't it will go the way of F1.

RE: Dodge is out and Allmendinger was tired...

I was at the Brickyard and Nascar estimated the crowd at 125,000. The seating at Indy is 250,000 which means that 125,000 every other seat was filled....It wasn't even close to that. The cost of fan participation has gone up significantly. With today's economy and the other entertainment choices on any given weekend auto racing is loosing favor to less expensive options. Especially when it can be watched on TV.

RE: Kurt Busch at Indy

Leaving this evening to go down to Indy for the Brickyard. I'll be the one with the red hat in turn 4. Will you be cheering for Montoya and Hornish? If either one wins, there will be a new record set. That's pretty major, in my book. I always cheer for those guys. Actually Tony's and the Bush boys are my guys in tin tops. I've got my egg timer packed as a stopwatch would be totally worthless under these circumstances. :B Actually going down more for the sports cars than Nationwide and Cup cars. Those race are fill in for the weekend for me. Four of us going so it should be enjoyable, and the weather is supposed to be great! Besides everything is a spectacle at Indy!

RE: Allmendinger

Ah...we'll take him back in Indycar....all those tin top guys say you have to be nuts or on drugs to drive one of those things in the first place.....:)

RE: Dale Jr.

Only 143 more until the next one! :) Amazing what one little spring rubber will do. Maybe they should put a spring rubber in Danica's car next time and she can win too!!

RE: Looking for an overnight spot near Indy

Don't know what you consider close...but there's Mounds State Park in Anderson...about 40 miles away. Google Indiana State Parks. I've stayed there a couple of times during the 500. Typical State Park camping.

RE: Texas IRL race

It was a really good race. They actually had to back off in the turns and there was no flat out pack racing. I think Indycar is on the right track with the aero package tweeks. Hopefully in the near future we'll see some diversity in the chassis and engines available. Texas is always a good track and all in all IMO it was much better than the Pocono snoozer.

2.5 miles @ 185 mph

Well yesterday was a big day....Took a ride in the 2 seat Indycar. What a blast. Did 3 laps...an outlap...a flyer...and an inlap. Flyer lap was 185. I challenge anyone who says race car drivers are not athletes. I don't know how they stand the "G" load through the turns lap after lap for 500 miles. I guess they train for it. Gave me a whole new perspective and appreciation for the sport. If you ever get the chance...do it! It was a thrill!!
