RE: What ply tires

I have a fiver that weighs out at about 8,500 loaded that had 6 ply 15" D rated tires. All I could find was mostly China made which I am not going to buy. I upgraded to 16" with the Michelin ribs 10 ply E rated. Rims, tires all was about $1,500.00. A little pricey and maybe a little overkill but I am spending my kids inheratence. It sure makes me feel a lot better. Also get a tire monitor system. I believe most tire problems are inflation issues. Good luck.

RE: Prodigy P2

:@I still use the original Prodigy for nine years now. Works like a dream. I can't really see a lot of difference in the one I have and the Prodigy 2.:@

RE: Decaying decals

Just be sure to put something back on in place of the removed decals. A blank 5er looks disgusting. No they don't. It just makes you wonder what kind on RV it is. Love y'all.

RE: PLEASE HELP ON TIRES AND AXLES

I have a 2006 29RLBS Wildcat. I use Maxxis tires ST225/75R15D (8 ply). Look at their website at www.maxxis.com. Your weight sounds high to me. Did you subtract the weight on the hitch? I have about 8,000# on the tires. The tires combined should hold a maximum of 10,160# (2,540 x 4). My hitch weight on the bed of the truck is about 1,400#. Maxxis also makes the same size tire in a 10 ply that is rated at 2,830# per tire. When I replace the tires again, I will probably upgrade to the 10 ply. Check pricing at Discount Tire Direct. Also consider the road hazard additional cost. I lost a tire in 7/2010 because of running over a semi valve stem. I got it replaced with no questions asked. My mistake. Dry weight is 6,900. Hitch weight is 930. Max weight is 11,090. Sorry about that. Thanks.

RE: PLEASE HELP ON TIRES AND AXLES

I have a fiver that weighs about 11,000 pounds dry. It has two axles. The tires are ST225/75R15, D rated, 2540 pounds. Most of the tires this size are out of china. I want to go to a 16" tire with Michelin Ribs with a E rating. There is plenty of room on the front axel on top and sides. On the driver side rear axel the size tire on it now is 5/16 from a rod that operates the slide. It has been like this since I got it new. The fiver probably has 12,000 miles on it with no issues. My question is if push comes to shove would it be safe to put 16" tires on the front axle and a 16" on the passenger side of the rear axel with a 15" on the driver side where it is so tight? Or maybe 16s on the front and15s on the rear? From the center out you are only talking about 1/2inch. Also how would this affect the towing on the fiver. Also in the past on other smaller trailers I used maybe a 1/2 inch of flat washers on the lug bolts with double lug nuts to move the entire rim and tire out away from the springs or frame. I am scared to death of these Chinese tires. How about some help on this. I thank all of you. Well, You could go to LT225/75R16's and the only clearance issue you'd have to worry about is the diameter. No need to washers to change the offset. Oh, and mixing sizes is a terrible idea. It's bad enough that there is going to be differences in the loading of individual tires, but differences in diameter is going to make this much, much worse. Don't they make the Michelin ribs in a narrower width than above. Also would it be safe to washer the rims on a trailer this big? I would never do over 1/4 of a inch. Thanks.

RE: junky tires

Well, i have had my 5er almost 3 years now and it is due new ones becaus of bad wear (not balanced of course from mfg). I have searched exhaustively and am looking for personal opinions. I have 225/75/15 load range D tires. I cannot afford tires and rims at this time. The only tires i can find are ST tires that will fit my rig. I did manage to come across some LT Pirelli Scorpion tires in load range D, but don't want to spend that type of money on them. My options presently are off the wall brand Greenball or other no name brands. Of course Goodyear Marathon (have hear horror stories) or attempt to find someone within a decent distance that sells Maxxis 8008's. what is your all recommendations? I am in the same situation as you. I went to Discount tire and they said most of the tires this size were made in China. I ordered new 16" rims and am going with the Michelin st ribs E rated. The ones I ordered were two inches taller and 1/2 " narrower. I had rather be safe than sorry. It is probably a little overkill. I have had several sets of Michelins with no issues. I am not knocking other tires but it seem like you hear of them giving less trouble than the others. I am not going to buy China made tires if I can avoid it. My fiver only weighs 11,000 pounds. I hope all this makes some sense. At my age I sure don't want to fix flats on the interstate. Good luck.

RE: Which GPS to get???

I have really liked my Rand McNalley RVND 7710. Made with RV's in mind. I have the 7710 also and am happy with it. I don't think anybody makes one that won't mess up some time or another.

RE: Magic Jack?

I have had MJ for three years now and I am very pleased. Every now and then the one that doesn't need a PC on to work, when you are on it for maybe an hour it will drop the call. I just call them back. I'll bet most people on here has never had a cell phone drop a call. Huh. $1.80 a month. What do you expect? AT&T is a lot more than that. Love y'all.

DIFFERENCE BETWEEN RAND MCNALLY 7710 & 7720

RE: best gps for campers

I have a Rand-McNally 7710 with lifetime updates. So far I am pretty happy. Don't all these GPS s use the same satellites? The reason I got it was the loud volum it has and the large screen. I think if you use them enough soner or later it will send you somewhere you don't want to go. Good Luck.

RE: LITTLE INFO ON FINDING CAMPSITES

You could buy th Trailer Life Good Sam cd. Using in conjunction with a laptop GPS such as those that come with Microsoft Streets and Trips. Load both trailer life CD and Microsoft streets and trips. With Trailer life CD running and GPS activated you can see campgrounds on different scales as you motivate up the highway. Click on information tab and you can call ahead for vacantcies. I have Microsoft S&T, Good Sam RV Directory, but I can't find the CD. If someone could send me a link on the CD. I also have The Next Exit on the way plus the Rand McNally 7710. I also have a hundred pounds of maps. I am traveling alone so a rest area or truck stop will work in a pinch. I have figured out to try not to try to find a spot on Friday or Saturday. I sure do thank all of you for your help.

LITTLE INFO ON FINDING CAMPSITES

:@ I realize this is probably a very vague question. I am doing a extended trip through Colorado, Utah, Arizonia, California, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and S. Dakota. I was wondering how difficult it is to find campsites when visiting some of the major attractions in these states. I am leaving around the first of May doing the states in the order listed. I have all the time in the world. Just trying to get all the info I can before leaving. All feedback is welcome and appreciated. THANKS.:@

RE: Traveling with a firearm

I know some cops and if the police run your drivers lic. It will tell them if you have a ccl. All the ccl are tied into the FBI data bases which is available to all police dept. and also available to the Canadian police at the border. What I have seen and heard most states that honor your state ccl is not a problem. Love y'all

RE: Windows 8

I would tell you to get a Mac but they took IDVD out of it. Microsoft and Apple are like most outfits with a lot of power they make what they want you to have instead of what you want. The American way not the one Superman talk about.
