RE: 06 5.9 and a Gearvenders...??

I had a Gearvendors in a 2003 5.9 and worked just fine. I had the 4x4 unit that would automatically kick out if I accidentally put the truck in 4x4. The truck had the auto which was a 4 speed and splitting the gears basically gave me two more useful gears. The reason I say two is I would mostly only use it to split 3rd and 4th, then like an OD after 4th. Only caution is if the Ram is a 4X4. Good luck and I'd go for it.

RE: Retirement at 55??

I retired at 55, a year and a half now, and hit the road soon after retirement. It takes a while to learn how to retire and relax. Living on the road is different but it is a great adventure for us. The financial part of it only you can answer. We are conservative and don't need to stay in RV resorts, in fact that really isn't our style. Therefore our daily park rental costs are reasonable. Health care is a huge cost, our largest. If your pension has medical care then your pension $$ will go farther. I would suggest putting together a budget and go from there. We put together spreadsheets that allowed us to vary the cost of items (such as fuel), to understand the impact of variable costs (such as fuel and how much we thought we might travel). We also choose a 5th wheel, and having owned one once before, I was familiar with the associated costs as opposed to a DP, where I understand maintenance can get a little pricy. In regards to 'what we expected' cost wise; I would say we were pretty close. BUT (Behold the Ultimate Truth) we spent a good year researching 'full-timing' before we made the commitment. It pays to do your homework. Good luck and go for it!

RE: Windsurfing

It is definitely flat water sailing at the BIB. My next outing with decent wind will probably be in the bay where there are swells. The sailor is close to the sandbar but probably still 30 yards off of it. With the wind direction we were sailing almost parallel to the bar. BUT (Behold the Ultimate Truth) you are right about the sandbar sneaking up, I almost hit it one time; yikes!

RE: Using a Sewing Machine in RV

No problem power wise, but if your coach doesn't have a built in power protection device I would strongly suggest plugging the machine into a power strip with a built in surge protector.

RE: Windsurfing

Merry 4.5 Christmas to all. Hope you are enjoying the holidays with family and friends. Santa came through today as it blew hard. I went out on a 4.5 and was powered up! Pic is of someone sailing as I have yet to figure out how to take a picture of myself when sailing. Location is Bird Island Basin, Corpus Christi. Merry Christmas and Happy New Year!http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb463/dana5005/BI.jpg height=480 width=640

RE: Happy Holidays to all my Full-Time Friends

We celebrate life and freedom for the life style we have chosen. With all of the electronic gadgets nowadays we video chat with family and friends through out the day.

RE: Second antenna booster?

Most likely the booster will only work with the main TV. This is how my 5th was wired. You can buy a decent quality splitter from Radio Shack, connect it to the booster and use it to switch between the two TV sources, main and bedroom. You might have to take the wall plate off where the cable TV connection is to find the cable for the bedroom and pull it out to connect to the splitter.

RE: fulltimer-need health insurance

Like yourself, we are close to the ending of our Cobra coverage. The largest obstacle is to find coverage throughout the states. For us it looks like we will be going with Untied Health One. To Terra-Sea point, go online to do your homework, but call and talk to the representative.

RE: Upper-mid to high end level 5th wheel?

Just reread your original post; 40ft+ in length. Well that counts out AF and probably most others. The Montana 3900FB comes close in length.

RE: Upper-mid to high end level 5th wheel?

Finding an Arctic Fox on the east coast might be difficult. We seriously looked at the AF, but eventually decided otherwise, not due to AF though. But we did learn that most of the new and used units are out west.

RE: "best" 5th wheel manufacturer need advice

LOL, spot on GIAF, you're right. Don't know where the information comes from, but NuWa web doesn't say anything about 29 days and I was at the factory last month having an awing repaired that was damaged by the state of NC. On the subject, there are plenty of quality builders, to identify the "best" would be difficult without researching the number of warranty claims per manufacture and then normalize the data per production volume. I suggest going to look at used models as they have seen the use and abuse. The new models are always clean and look nice.

RE: Using a Winegard TV antenna as a FM antenna?

Just hooked the receiver directly to the Winegard without a splitter as a trial. It worked great! Now just need a shorter cable and splitter to clean up the install. Thanks all.

RE: Using a Winegard TV antenna as a FM antenna?

Great, that sounds reasonable. My receiver does not have two screws but a connection that is very similar to a coax threaded but without threads. The transformer is for the difference in ohms between the antenna and receiver?

Using a Winegard TV antenna as a FM antenna?

I bought a small desk top stereo and would like better FM reception. Besides installing a standard car type FM antenna on the roof, is it possible to use the Winegard TV antenna?

RE: JT Stabilizer Squeaks

Had a trailer with the JT's and would squeak, drove me nuts. I finally figured out it was not the JT's but the landing gear. After setup and securing the JT's I would 'bump up' the landing gear to take any slack out of the gears. You have to be cautious doing this as you could shear a bolt in the landing gear drive gearing. BTW, I could tell on that trailer if the JT's were tightened or not, they worked very well.

RE: Place to stay in the Lafavette area

Well what do you know, I checked my preferences and the PM's capability was 'do not allow'. Interesting as I have received PM's within the last month. I knew the internet was magic, but now it must also be possessed!

RE: Place to stay in the Lafavette area

Sorry all, Lafayette Louisiana. I have been on the road so unable to respond. Didn't know I have PM's blocked as I have received them in the past, will check settings tonight. Thanks for the suggestions.

RE: Windsurfing

Hey all, another good day yesterday, 5.5 meter day. Days have turned cool and water temps have dropped. We plan on leaving this Saturday for a quick trip thru Ohio to see our children once more before heading to off to Texas. Hwy 12 is still closed so we will exit the outer banks via ferry. http://i1207.photobucket.com/albums/bb463/dana5005/Hat-2.jpg
