RE: TOW BRAKE

Take a look at the RVi brake. We use it when towing our Wrangler. It's lightweight (~8lbs) and easy to set up and store.

RE: Which Car is best for towing behind motorhome

One more for a Wrangler! DH and I did the Blue-Ox baseplate install, Cool-Tech wiring harness and the RVi braking system. Never even know it's back there when towing.

RE: Guitars

Hubby, another couple, and I regularly get together for some bluegrass jamming. Our main camping trips are to festivals. We jam at the campsite whether at a festival or not. I play the mandolin, hubby the guitar, our friends have the upright bass and guitar/banjo.
Hubby found an excellent travel guitar at a very reasonable price, the Voyage-air. The neck actually folds down to the body and it comes with a nice backpack style case. They run between $300-799. Elderly Music and Musician's Friend both carry them. Not to be biased, but DH is very particular when it comes to the guitars that he plays (guitar of choice is made by Collings) so if he's satisfied with the sound and quality, it's got to be a good choice.

RE: Sandy . . . . How far inland do we Need to Get

The state of Maryland just declared a state of emergency. Talk to the campground to find out what your options are.

RE: Time to renew registration, $$$ ouch!

In Delaware, it's $40 plus $6.40 per thousand pounds above 5000. So for our Winnie Access, it's roughly $110 per year. Regular cars and pickups are a flat $40.

RE: YOU drove??? ;^)

Since my DH can no longer drive due to failing eyesight (we're both in our early 50s). I have taken over the driving duties for our 31' MH, Goldwing MC and our tandem bicycle. I will NEVER understand the thinking that any vehicle is "too much" for a woman to handle. DH is confident in my abilities, especially after our 11 hour drive to New Hampshire. Besides, our Winnie is a dream to drive!
PS - I also am in charge of tank dumping!

RE: Women driving motorhomes

Since DH began losing his vision a number of years ago, I have been doing the driving. From a 19 foot hybrid to our 31ft class c which we use to tow our jeep, I haven't had a problem. In fact our MH is easier to handle than towing the hybrid!
I never quite understood the men who said they would never "let" their wife drive their MH, because she "couldn't handle it!". :P
As far as safety, keep a charged cellphone on your person and trust your gut instinct. If something makes you uneasy, get out! Politeness doesn't matter if you don't feel safe.
Happy camping!

I-95 In the Northeast

We're going to be heading up to New Hampshire later this summer, the most direct route is I95. Anyone had any issues taking their MH up around NYC on 95? We will be heading through before rush hour. Any advice would be appreciated.
