RE: Good Sam ERS 6th year

Never could get her to stand on the unlock side if the button.
Ha! Glad we aren't the only ones. First time it happened while in the paddock on a race weekend. My race group was called to grid so we put our dog in the cab of the truck while I get the car fired and roll off towards grid. My wife then puts dog on a leash and walks up trackside. Except that our dog locked the truck doors. After that experience I put a hide-a-key on the frame rail.
Second time it happened while I was stopped on a truck scale at a very large and busy gravel pit/recycle company. Said company serviced both private and commercial accounts and only had this one scale for entry and exit. There was a pretty steady stream of dump-trucks going in and out of this place.
I get out of the truck and start walking around to the scale shack to pay my bill when I realize I left my wallet on the dash. Go back to get wallet and find that our dog has locked the doors again with the engine running. I pay my bill and as I exit the scale shack I see two dump-trucks with pups waiting for me to get out of their way. As I'm laying on the ground reaching under the truck for the hide-a-key I hear the following over the yard PA, "Rick we have a stall on the scale, trucks waiting" and look up to see this guy come flying around the corner on a large front-end loader headed for the back of my pickup. Needless to say I got in quick like and got out of there. No time for ERS in this case. :)
Good times.

RE: Re-covered or put new foam in your seat cushions?

Ok it's a done deal. After much testing at the foam shop I decided to go with extra-firm, 10 year density foam for the whole bottom cushion. It feels 100% better on my rear-end though it's brought up some new issues.
1) The table will need to be raised by about an inch or so and the outside corners cut-back to ease entry/exit and use of the table while seated.
2) The back cushion sits on top of the bottom cushion and is captured at the top of the back cushion by an upholstered board. With the new bottom cushion installed the back cushion is almost non-existent in terms of support and that top board impacts my back solidly. Guess I'll try stuffing some extra foam in that top cushion to see it that helps.

RE: The hammer comes down on Kenseth and team

Good stuff at Richmond...can't beat Saturday night short track racing.
Yep, although I think that race is simply too long. I agree with this guys analysis for the most part.
NASCAR Richmond 2013: Sprint Cup short track events would benefit from shootout style race lengths...
But most importantly, a shorter race will ensure that drivers don't have the option to sit on their thumbs and wait for the race to come to them -- especially on a short track.
Dating back to races like the Indianapolis 500 and the World 600, the marathon race was designed to test the limits of man and machine. While man is still prone to the occasional folly over 500 miles, the modern day stock car is not.
NASCAR realizes this as well with the recent deductions to races at Pocono Speedway last year.
This is especially important on short tracks, which was founded on the values of the shootout. Those are the same principles that NASCAR was built upon and made the sport so popular in the first place.
Most importantly, modern fans just have shorter attention spans and more to do. The 500-mile marathons worked fine when fans didn't have options but those days are long gone. Other sports have begun to recognize this too with football restricting timeouts and Major League Baseball shortening the length of mound visits. NASCAR could benefit from similar legislation.
Saturday's race clocked-in at just under four hours but only the last one provided the fireworks and entertainment. NASCAR has the chance to maximize the value of its competitive new car and make every lap count -- not just the last 100 like we saw on Saturday at Richmond.
http://www.sbnation.com/nascar/2013/4/28/4278022/nascar-richmond-2013-sprint-cup-short-track-events-would-benefit-from
I think that last part is key. While I don't particularly like it, we are a short attention-span, instant gratification, sound-bite society these days.

Nascar under the lights at TMS

Who is your pick for tonight's NRA 500?
I'm going with Kurt Busch. Regardless of how I feel about his past antics, the guy can wheel a race car and his recent performances with an underfunded team are really impressive.

RE: Re-covered or put new foam in your seat cushions?

All of a sudden I cannot view pictures in posts ... why ?
Same here, don't know what the issue is. I have pictures in my original post at the beginning of this thread and my latest post about the cost.
I use the forum img insert tool and they show up when I do the initial post, but when I refresh the browser the images disappear.

RE: Re-covered or put new foam in your seat cushions?

When we had the dinette cushions re-upholstered we chose the firmest foam we could get, the upholster-er said we didn't need that firm and that it was expensive. However, it has been 5 years since the work was done, and the cushions are still firm. And we live full-time in the RV, and travel.
That's good to hear. It has not been so bad when we were just weekend camping as we did not spend much time in the dinette. However, the last couple of years I've been staying in the trailer for multiple days at a time while working at semi-remote property. And between the back-breaking jacknife sofa and the soft dinette seat in this TT I end up more stove-up from them than I do from a day of manual labor.

RE: Re-covered or put new foam in your seat cushions?

Foam is a petroleum based product as the price of oil goes up so does the price of foam. Also the foam you may find at JoAnn fabrics or Hancock fabrics may not be dense enough for your dinette seat. You may need to talk to a reupholsterer to get the firmness you may want.
That's true, the foam at JoAnns was not nearly firm enough, thus my trip to the upholstery shop.

RE: Re-covered or put new foam in your seat cushions?

Wait till you see what a piece of new foam costs:E
You are not kidding. The local shop just quoted me $178 for the two foam pieces required for this one bottom cushion. Extra firm, 10 year density. Sure felt comfortable on the test cushion though.
The foam on this old cushion is 4.5" thick which doesn't seem to be available from the online places that I can find.

RE: Looking for RV sized recliner (RV salvage yards?)

Thanks for the replies, looks like I should check out a furniture store first. I read the reviews on a couple that were suggested and they sound good, although there were several reviews that commented that the chair worked good for short people. I'm 6' 4" so I'll have to see how I fit. Not much can be done about it anyway as the available space is only so big in that small tt, and even a wooden stool would be more comfortable then that confounded jacknife sofa.

Looking for RV sized recliner (RV salvage yards?)

We have a 22' TT with the back breaking jacknife sofa that I want to replace with a recliner.
At 22' there's not a lot of room and I suspect that a residential recliner might be too big, though I admit I've not set foot in a furniture store in years so maybe I should take a look.
Where might I look for an actual RV sized recliner? It seems to me there was some sort of an RV used parts store in eastern WA at one time, maybe Yakima?
Thanks

RE: NASCAR & Tony...thoughts?

Looks like Kyle Busch is taking up acting as well.
Kyle Busch -- one of NASCAR's famous hot-heads -- has signed on for some professional help from Charlie Sheen ... on his TV show, "Anger Management" ... TMZ has learned.
Sources connected to the show tell us Busch just signed the deal -- in the last 30 minutes -- to play himself in one episode of the FX comedy. He'll be seeking counseling ... we presume for road rage ... from Charlie's character.
Busch -- the most successful driver, in recent years, for Joe Gibbs Racing -- has more than earned his nickname ... "Wild Thing" with his antics on the track ... and off.
We're told Busch wanted to do the guest spot because he's a "giant Charlie Sheen fan" ... and loves the show.

RE: NASCAR & Tony...thoughts?

First off, is there an update on how Hamlin is doing?
As far as the dust-up, I think Tony was a bit out of line but in the final analysis some of that kind of off-track conflict fits well with nascars script for their brand of sports entertainment.
Nascar needed some new blood to add too the primary actors they already had, and this year Logono is that new person. And so far it seems to be working out well.

Battery leakage in calculator

Haven't used this calculator (TI89) in awhile and I found some battery leakage in it today. What is the best way to clean up these spring terminals? Is there some sort of spray cleaner that can be used in conjunction with a tooth brush or something?
Also how do you deal with various battery powered electronic devices that get infrequent use, do you remove the batteries every time after use? Are lithium's less prone to leakage? How about rechargeables, are they less prone to leakage?
Thanks

RE: What type of connector is this?

If it is too small for the 3.5mm then probably the second.
AT&T Motorola Q Global / Q9h OEM 2.5 mm Stereo Audio Converter
The AT&T Motorola Q Global / Q9h 2.5mm Stereo Headphone Adapter 2.5mm Stereo Converter will allow you to use your 2.5mm headphones to enjoy your music.
Converts an enhanced AT&T Motorola Q Global / Q9h jack opening into a standard 2.5mm jack opening to enable use of all headsets with standard 2.5mm adapter AT&T Motorola Q Global / Q9h that do not have that standard 2.5mm opening for a hands-free headset.
Combine it with our 2.5mm Headphones and connect your AT&T Motorola Q Global / Q9h to any home or car stereo system to enjoy music on your AT&T Motorola Q Global / Q9h any time, any place!
Thanks for the replies.
It is definitely too small for the 3.5 plug. Is the 2.5 plug a newer size than the 3.5 or has it been around for awhile?

This motorola doohicky, what's it for? The little round port is too small for the typical 3.5mm headphone type plug.

What kind of plug is this?

This is used on a bipap machine. This is the connector that gets plugged into the machine itself, 110v is stepped down to 24v.
This connector is worn, the wires are pulling loose, and the connector is cracked where the wires enter the back of it. It requires some fiddling to get the wires to connect so the machine will work each time you unplug/plug in the connector. One of these days it will fail altogether. The receptacle on the machine looks to be in good shape.
A replacement power supply/cord is $160. I'm wondering if they make this connector in some sort of solder-on version that I could attempt to solder on the cable? Or, are there other devices that use this type of power connector that I might be able to scavenge the connector and a short section of wire from and then splice wires with the existing power supply? The connector has two large pins and one small pin.
Thanks
