RE: Disabling horn sounding when locking truck.

I have an '07 Dodge Ram and despite having instructions that said I could do it, the service tech that performed this for me with the scan tool said that most trucks required the dealership to do this and therefore did not charge me to do it.

RE: Whoops - Tires Slipped Uphill in Rain

I bet that if you look in your owner's manual it will stipulate NOT to use cruise control while raining or snowing.....just for the reason you experienced. If you were not in cruise control and trying to maintain speed (like a cruise control), maybe you should have predicted that it would shift...
Glad you were able to regain control... could have been disastrous.
Ron
Maybe my reading comprehension is bad... I didn't see where he said he was using cruise control... did you read that into it, or did you intend to just give a general caveat against using cruise in the rain or slick surfaces?

RE: Refurbished GPS ?????

The problem with refurbished units is that sometimes, they just don't work quite right...
The bonus to refurbished units is that they have been repaired and most of them operated just as new and have probably undergone more testing than an original new would have.

RE: You don't realize how big a Megacab is until...

...until you put a double air mattress on the fold-flat back seat and catch a few winks.
...until you put your child's new power wheels in the fold-flat back seat because it is raining out.
...until you recline in the back seat and stretch your legs while the front seats are at the furthest distance back.
...until you realize that it is hard to hear the kids because they are so far back.

RE: Removing 50 amp cord for 30 amp

It never hurts to have too much capacity. Even if it were easy, you may eventually regret changing over.

RE: F350 7.3 Turbo Diesel transmission burping fluid

Change the fluid and maybe even the filter if you have never done that yet. If it was hot enough to burp fluid, then the heat probably reduced the functional life of the oil.

I can hear the oil draining down to the sump in my cummins when I shut down.

RE: Outdoor Stoves

My camp chef is a fantastic stove and will operate off the low pressure RVQ outlet just fine with the right hose.

RE: Low Watt Electric Coffee Maker?

Sorry. There are times when heating a pot of water on the stove or over a fire isn't practical.
You are ABSOLUTELY right that in making a pot of coffee I want to heat a pot of water.
You remind me of my brother, who has "won" many an argument because, semantics were on his side.
Nah, I wasn't trying to be a jerk. I wasn't playing the semantics game either, I was just trying to be pragmatic that is all. I was thinking more that you can light your stove everywhere versus needing a lot of DC capacity, a generator, or shore power to run a coffee pot.
Good luck on your search, I will follow this thread to see what your final solution is.

RE: Low Watt Electric Coffee Maker?

I HAVE a french press. It makes much better coffee than a drip coffee maker. There are times heating a pot of water just isn't practical.
Isn't heating water what you want the coffee maker to do? Good luck in finding a solution.

RE: Low Watt Electric Coffee Maker?

Find a french press. Smoother coffee for a better taste. You just pour hot water into your coffee grounds, let it sit for a few then press it and great coffee is the result.

RE: Diesel Engine Choice

HP = Torque X rpm X factor
The formula says it all... You CANNOT have HP without Torque. The bigger the torque number, the higher possible HP number.

RE: Terrifying moment

I am glad to hear that you are OK.
This is a great real world example that we should all expect the unexpected while out on the road. Increased following distance, ensuring we have an out, that kinda stuff.

RE: 7.3 IDI

Can anyone tell me how to get more power & better mpg out of it. Or do I just have to live with it? Thanks in advance Jack
Have you turned up the mechanical fuel pump? Have you installed a torque converter lockout switch for your E40D? What about turbo spec'd injectors? You should also give it more air. The stock air inlet was restrictive at best and I installed the air inlet kit and it made a difference.
When I had a '92 F350 IDI, it had a remanufactured motor with a fuel pump and injectors from the '94 model and the ATS turbo kit. I installed the air inlet kit. Once I turned up the pump it made a heck of a difference, but I was still limited to about 45mph towing a 7000lb travel trailer up the inclines. T
You can find the directions and ideas at thedieselstop.com.

RE: Cell phone and landlines

Just make sure your plan had enough minutes to compensate. We dropped our home line about 6 months ago and our cell usage quadrupled. We upped our cell plan just in case, and it covered the increase in usage.

RE: A Simple Thank You

As a veteran, I will take your thanks and say you are welcome. I will also thank all of the vets that served before and all those that will serve after. But since we have our own day I would like to point out that this holiday is a day that we specifically remember those who gave the ultimate sacrifice. I'm talking about the service members that never came home. They deserve our attention this weekend and everyday of the year for that matter. We are forever indebted to their sacrifice.

RE: A/T rated e tires

Not all E rated tires are equal. Some D rated tires carry the same weight rating as some E rated tires. Given that information, you should be more concerned about how much weight a tire can safely carry versus the letter assigned to it.
For instance, the E rated michelins that came with my truck were rated at 3195lbs per tire. The BFG All terrains that I replaced them with are D rated and have a max load of 3195lbs per tire.
I would spend some time on the website of the tire you are interested in and see what they are rated at before you go to the tire shop.

RE: How long is too long to be a gasser?

If you live in Florida and plan to stay in vertically challenged states, then a gasser may be your ticket. Really it boils down to how bad you want to go a little bit faster up the hills. On the other hand, even the big diesels slow down on the big hills out west. Being in Cal, you are probably going to want a diesel.
