RE: Are hitches universal?

The OP did say his Parents had a Sidewinder and he thought it looked like any hitch wood work with it. Most hitches will work with it but you need to install the right wedge on the sidewinder to work on your hitch.

RE: Are hitches universal?

If your parents have the Reese Sidewinder pin box then your hitch may not work with it. The sidewinder has a locking plate that will only work on the type of hitch that they have and maybe a few others. You can get a plate for other hitch but then you must remove one and put the other one on.

RE: Weigh Stations CO. UT. NV.

The weigh stations are for commercial trucks. If you are licensed as a commercial truck then you must stop at the weigh stations but RV's do not need to stop. In Oregon the speed limit is 65 mph for non commercial and 55 mph for commercial trucks on the freeway. There are laws for private vehicles and commercial vehicles in most states.

RE: length vs small State highways

We traded our 259rbs pull trailer measuring 28' bumper to tung for a 299rks fifth wheel maesureing 33'11" from bumper to pin. Hooked up to the fifth wheel we have the same foot print as our old trailer but taller.

RE: 12v freshwater valves

Oh I see what you are talking about storage, I dont think that would be a problem as after you wenterize it does not matter if a valve is open or closed because you will not be flowing water.Looks like one valve for the bypass valve.
12V DC Solenoid Valve
How many valves on your water heater?
You would need to reconfigure valving.....closing cold in and opening bypass...2 valves
Cold inlet would need to have power on during normal operation and power off during bypass operation. The reverse would be needed on the bypass valve (power on it during bypass operation and power off during normal operation)
Power on (via switch) to cold inlet would not be much of problem when using RV
BUT power on (via switch) to bypass valve during bypass/storage time would be a constant parasitic drain......so battery 'tending'

12v freshwater valves

I was thinking about replacing my hot water bypass valve with a 12v eletric valve and putting a switch in an easy to get to location. Has any body done this and where would someone find a place do get this type of hardware? I would think that some high end RV's may have some kind of set up like this, so I guess there is electric valves out there. I have to crawl into my cargo area and remove a panel to switch my bypass valve. I know this is a once a year deal to winterize my trailer but why not.

RE: Mt Hood, Oregon

The town of Hood River has fireworks on the Columbia River. There are a few State parks near Hood River on I84 including Memaloose. There is a RV park in Bingen, WA across from Hood River but the bridge to get to Bingen is narrow. There is a County RV park in the upper Hood River Valley called Toll Bridge, it seems to be nice but I have never stayed there. Toll Bridge has some full hookups, here is a link to a site that list it. http://www.freeguidetonwcamping.com/oregon_washington_main/oregon/central_or/Toll_Bridge_Park.htm What ever you decide make your reservations well in advance as everything fills up fast here in the summer time. If you decide to stay at Toll Bridge you are just a few minutes from MT Hood on hwy 35.

RE: Hitch Hoist

I purchased a hoist that mounts in the bed of you truck, that lift things up and into the bed of your truck. I plan on mounting this on a steel post cemented in the ground so I can lift off my canopy and lift my hitch up into my truck. Now I just hope my plan works.

Tying down for the trip

We just went from a regular mid size pull trailer to a fifth wheel. What do you guys do with your recliners and table and chairs? The dealer said you can tie them down if you want but he never does. Do you tie them down and pad them or do you just leave them the way they are?

RE: Pulled the trigger on a new 5ver but sad.

I know the feeling, two weeks ago we sold our pull trailer and bought a fifth wheel. The people that bought our trailer were in love with it and we know they will take care of it and enjoy it. We have so many family memories in it but like I told my wife we will make more memories in the new trailer. We left our trailer at a park one time for my son and after my grandson was born he said count back the days and guess where we made Austin at.

RE: Do you use a slider hitch with your short bed??

Going from a regular trailer to a fifth wheel I started counting up the yes's and no's on this post and others and I decided I did not need a slider on my 06 Chev short box but two people telling my wife I needed a slider changed everthing. I told my wife that I would get a Sidewinder but not a slider and now my new fifth wheel sits in my driveway with a sidewinder.

RE: Interesting Family History.......

Albert, You mentioned that there was some confusion about first names in your family and though I don't know your nationality, it's very common in my Irish family (here in the stateside and abroad) to use middle names for first names. To the extent that it wouldn't surprise me that there would be arguments over someone's real name. It can get messy.
Drury and Thomas had Differant wifes and died at differant times. I think Drury is his father and Thomas might be an older brother

RE: Interesting Family History.......

I think we all have some interesting family trees if we search hard enough. My fathers side goes back to the Mayflower with at least 8 Families on the boat Miles Standish, John Alden, Etc. On my moms side was Gordon c. Jennings died March 6 1836 at the Alamo, His son was a member of the Texas Rangers 1845-47. I guess when you are tracing your Familey Tree double check every thing as I have not figured out who one of my greatgg Grandfathers first name was, some say it was Drury and other say it was Thomas and I don't know who to believe.

RE: Routes 35 and 26 Hood River to Bend

I always take 35 to 26 to go to Bend except once, I followed my brother over 197 and for some reason it realy sucked my gas. Taking 35 from Hood River is up hill all the way to Mount Hood Meadows ski area then its all down hill from there for the most part.
