RE: Winnebago/Sunnybrook bunk house can't find one

Go to the Winnebago One Site. They have pictures. Also Fretz RV in PA has them with pictures on line.

RE: 8,500 lbs plus dry weight

To answer dodge guy, yes, if you are getting an 8,500 lb dry trailer I assume you are going to carry 2,000 lbs of stuff around in it. How do people make out towing these things with anything less than a deisel one ton that the typical travel trailer buyer does not have.
I want my cake and to eat it to. The affodability of a travel trailer with all the room and amenities these 8,500 lb beasts offer, all being towed by a reasonably priced gas tow vehicle. The move to deisel is over my price point, the move to 5th wheel is over my price point. Now it seems every manufacturer is making these extremely heavy travel trailers and I am interested in others experience in towing them. At 7k dry plus probably 2k of our gear I already feel like we have a little bit of the tail wagging the dog with a 1 ton v10 van.

8,500 lbs plus dry weight

In the last year or so I am seeing a slew of new bunk house campers with dryweights in the 8,500 lb range. Mostly the triple slide island kitchen bunk house campers that I would love to have. What in the world are people towing these things with? We two a 7,000 lb dry camper with an E-350 V-10 and I cannot imagine adding another 1,500 lbs to it. The typical travel trailer buyer does not have a diesel dually. To those that have purchased these what are you towing with and how is your experience with it?

RE: installing a house toilet in our trailer

Our friends bought a used camper that someone had installed a house toilet in. Other than it filling up the black tank very quickly, they had no issues with it and towed it all over the place. As long as you have full hook-ups you should be fine. If fact with full hook-ups it is probably a bonus as you will always dilute the contents of the black tank with lots of water.

RE: superslide needs adjustments

My trailer is not enclosed underneath so I cannot answer that. However, assuming your slide is like mine, the components that get adjusted are near the outer wall of the slide and will be exposed when the slide is in the open position.
I just looked at pictures of some Salem Hemisphere campers on line and they have the same type slide as I do. I do not believe you need to remove any of the enclosed underbelly of the camper. Extend the slide and All the adjustable components are out near the outer end of the slide.

RE: Roof issue

What do you mean "coming up"? You can see the edge of the rubber where it has pulled from from behind the gutter/trim strip? Or it is simply just loose and not perfectly tight to the roof in this spot?

RE: re-entering camping - what would you buy?

I am 6'-2" and was concerned about the 74" queen as well. To my surprise it has not been an issue. Make sure you have room to fit an 80" queen in place if you decide you need it later and that will open many more campers as options. Also, some people will slide the head end of the mattress back a few inches and fill the void with pool noodles, the sheets can go right over the noodles. Gains you a few inches and the pillows sit on top of this area anyway.

RE: superslide needs adjustments

Seems crazy to not be covered under warranty. As if to say they do not anticipate you driving it down the road?
At any rate, here is the lippert manual that goes thru the adjustment procedure.

Tightening Stair Bolts

On my trailer the bolts that hold the stairs tight to the floor of the camper need to be tightened. The nuts are rusted to the bolts and I have not been able to get anything to hold tight enough to the threaded end of the bolt to get the nut to break free even after soaking them in PB Blaster. You cannot get to the head of the bolt is it is inside the wall of the camper. How is everyone else tightening these? Thanks.

RE: Soldering wires to 1156 base to adapt led panel

I just pulled the wires off the little white adapters that came with mine, took the fixtures down from the camper, soldered the adapter wires to the switch on the fixtures and put them back up. Seemed easier and cheaper than busting the bulbs and soldering directly to them.

Water Heater Issue

My in-laws have a DSI water heater. First trip of the season last weekend. The water heater will light for about three seconds and then the flame goes out. Relight again and same thing happens. If I hold a stick lighter at the burner for about a minute it would keep trying to quit but keep going because of the lighter. Take the lighter away and it will run for maybe 3 minutes and the quit. Tried this plenty long enough to purge the lines of air. Stove and refrigerator are running fine off of propane. When lit, the flame is a nice blue color. Any thoughts on what the issue could be? If there were a blockage if some sorts in the burner tube I would think the flame would be yellow or orange. Its like it keeps shutting off its gas supply. What controls when/whether gas is delivered? Thanks. Is there some sort of heat sensor that shuts off the gas if it thinks the flame has gone out? Thanks.

RE: Looking for a TT that fits my family needs

To answer your questions about Turtling, yes sleeping with the bunk end closed. This camper (Trail Sport 21RBH) only has one bunk end in the front. So they kids still sleep in there bunks in the back. There is no couch. The wife and I would sleep on the fold down u-shaped dinette in the front which is bigger than queen sized and was actually quite comfortable.

RE: Looking for a TT that fits my family needs

We had a 2008 Trail Sport TSE21RBH that may suit your needs. Dry weight under 3,000 lbs. Queen hybrid bed in the front. Jack and Jill bunks in the back for the kids. Huge king sized u-shaped dinette. Could easily turtle if it was really cold out. We towed it with a V6 Explorer Sport Trac. With a proper hitch you probably would hardly notice it behind your van. We liked the extra room by having the adult bed as a fold out hybrid but liked that the kids were in a hard side bunk set-up in the back.

Does this proflex caulking turn hard as a rock? I have some caulking on my camper that a previous owner did and its like cement now.

RE: Storage in small bunkhouse & rear slide TTs

Any closets that you do have, remove the hanging rod and put shelves in instead, we had a 21' hybrid at one time and with this mod you could double or triple the amount of clothing you could fit in the cabinets.
With creativiy you can also find lots of wasted space in small campers that can be converted to storage. Open spaces on the wall where you could add cabinets, under dinette seats that have mechanical equipment in there but still room that could be sectioned off for more storage.

RE: First Trip in New TT, Already Hit a Fence...ugh

Looks like you got lucky. They'll replace that corner moulding and you'll never know it happened. Almost any other impact would require more work to repair. Now you'll know to allow for wider turns and be good to go.

RE: 2002 E350 - Gear Change Complications

Thanks Bryan. I'll go back and ask about 4:30's. So far I have been told 4:10 is as high as I can go with the current carrier. I'm not sure it's worth it to go to 4:10's.

2002 E350 - Gear Change Complications

Went to get a quote on getting a gear change from 3.73 to 4.56.
Van is currently set-up with a Dana 60, semi-floating axle with ABS. I am told the change to 4.56 requires a different carrier. I have been told this is an odd set-up, that no one makes a carrier for this set-up to accept the ABS. That would have to be machined into the new carrier. Any help?
I asked about junkyard factory rears with 4.56's but seems like nothing is the proper width with this gear set-up from the factory.
