RE: Anyone know about the Chevy 409 truck engine ?

My '63 Impala had a 425 HP, 409 cu with 2 AFB carbs. When you floored it, it was like flushing a toilet. DICK

RE: Atwood WH leaking

Thanks all, I'll be doing more checking today. I feel that it's a pinhole leak due to it's age. DICK

Atwood WH leaking

Was working on something and noticed water on the floor below the WH. Checked all the fittings and they were dry. Can lift the WH up a slight bit and can see water under there. And water stains on the cardboard wrapped around the WH. My question is: Are there any fittings under the heater? Do these tanks eventually leak (It's 15 yrs old). Anyone know where the best prices are to be found for a 10 gal, gas/electric WH? Thanks, DICK On edit: Any special procedures for removing the WH? Besides the obvious--turn off water & propane.

RE: PC anti virus protection

For computer help I use: Worldstart It is an awesome help site and has some excellent puter gurus on there. they will ask you to run certain scans and post the results, then they will read the scan and advise you on what action to take. Been using them for years. they also advise not to use registry cleaners. And don't use system restore until all else fails. DICK

RE: loosing coolant

i was loosing coolant for about a year. Pressure tested twice over the year--nothing. Finally, last summer we headed west and in the mountains we overheated. took it to Rocky Mtn Cummins in Albq. They finally found the small leak. Corner of the head gasket. Wouldn't show up until engine warmed up and it evaporated before engine cooled down. The residue was in a very inaccessible spot so wasn't apparent when checked visually. DICK

RE: Rear radiator fin clogging, take a look

While getting my coach serviced at a local CAT dealer last spring, I told them I cleaned the cooling pack every year. The said it looked OK but warned me that folks don't realize how much gunk/leaves/grass/etc. collect between the CAC and radiator. They did not press the issue but suggested I would eventually need to have everything removed for a proper cleaning. I am hoping to postpone that until I need a new radiator. I had to have a head gasket replaced this past summer. They removed the radiator and CAC and showed me what was in between them. Lots of debris, 2 dead birds, paper, etc. DICK

RE: Wondering about old cars and trucks, from my youth

My cousin had a "60 Chrysler 300 with a French 6-speed, top shifter tranny. Only 7 made. DICK It was rare. Those transmissions were Pont Moussons or Pont a Moussons...something like that...my French has never been up to par. But I think they were 4 speed standards. Yup, they were four speeds. They also had a special 400 HP version of the 413. Very rare, hope he got a good dollar for it. Must have been a 4-speed then. Been quite awhile ago. It was the high horsepower engine. He sold it to finance his Olympic bobsledder dream. (He did qualify but never made it to the top). Don't know how much he got for it.

RE: Changing dump valve

Easy job to accomplish, NOT necessarily. You have to have some play in your line so you can spread the flanges apart by 1/4" to slip the gate valve in/out as it has ridges on it. One day when I had nothing better to do I cut 1/2" out of my PVC grey water line and put a rubber hose around it so when I need to change I'll have enough play to slip the new valves into the flanges with the four bolts. I like that idea!!!! Will use it!!! DICK

RE: Almost hit by a driver on her cell phone......

I was on a VA shuttle bus and as it pulled up to the clinic, a lady walked out, talking on the phone and walked right in front of the bus. Good thing the driver was watching her. I watched her go to her car, get in & drive off---still on the phone! DICK
