RE: Custer SP Resort

$960 for two people a month is $16 a day per person for three meals plus a spot. Try buying a spot on your own and eating at Mickey D's for three meals. $960 sounds very reasonable.

RE: Navistar RV is gone.......Hello new owners

Allied DID NOT buy Navistar. They bought the Monaco and HR brands from Navistar. Navistar has been having financial difficulties recently and has closed some of its own manufacturing facilities.

RE: C Max Question

We are towing our C Max four down. With the ignition turned to the factory required "ACC" position, no mileage accumulates. It tows like a dream, don't even know it is back there.
The one problem we incurred was that the 12V battery ran down after 4+ hours of towing. After having it checked out it was discovered the 12V connection from RV to C Max had not been connected to the battery circuit. We have a Blue Ox Patriot brake box that requires 12V for operation. I will not know whether or not the battery stays charged until our next long tow (4+ hours) in a few months.

RE: License Plate on Coach Front Required in Texas?

Check with TX DPS as there is a non-commercial Class B license requirement for those driving an RV over 26,001 lbs. rated. This is news to me. Our RV is 26,000 lbs rated. I plan on stopping into the DPS driver's license office this week for a clarification. Their web site is as clear as mud on this topic.

RE: Crossroads Cruiser Rusting Lug Nuts and Hubs

I would suggest you go to www.crossroadsrv.com. There is a family forums area where you can inform other Crossroads owners and prospective owners of your issues. There have been major management changes at that company. They have also changed their former two year bumper to hitch warranty to a one year warranty.

Blazing Star RV resort is about five blocks from Sea World, Admiralty RV resort even closer. Both are beautiful and well maintained. Lots of restaurants and both located in very good, realtively safe neighborhoods.

RE: Power to toad

The place where the baseplate was installed says there is a charge line in place. He said to make sure power is going through the coach's 7 pin to the 6 pin.

RE: Power to toad

Had the same issue yesterday while towing our 2013 Ford C Max a long distance for the first time. About 4-1/2 hours into a 6 hour trip the MH control unit indicated the car's battery was low according to the Patriot brake box. Ford requires the ignition be in the "ACC" setting while towing. All accessories were off as was the climate control.
I am not happy as the install was supposed to include a 12 volt line to keep the battery charged.

RE: Sales?? How??

I have a slight disagreement with Alfred622 on financing. Yes, find out what the interest rate is from you own source then use that as a bargaining tool with the F & I person. I recently bought a new car. My bank had "Super low" rates, or so they said, of 1.9% if I used their buying service. Not only did I pay $800 less for the car doing my own negotiating but I go a 1.37% loan through the dealer. The dealer knew I had my own financing but for him to make the profit on the loan he had to do better.

RE: Sales?? How??

There are three different dealer profit centers here: New department, used department and F & I or Finance and Insurance.
ALWAYS, ALWAYS, ALWAYS X 1,000 KEEP THE THREE SEPARATE! When you go into the dealership you should know ahead of time that the profit margin for new is anywhere from 25 - 35% depending on the make and model. If asked "Do you have a trade" you should answer "No". Once you agree on the price of the new model then it is time to say "How much is my RV worth in trade". If you look at three different RVs at the dealership get the three buying prices first before mentioning your trade.
Another couple of very important things to remember: 1) If the dealer asks for your driver's license ask why. Tell them you DO NOT give them permission to run a credit check. Should you decide to buy from them they will have ample time to run a check of your credit. It takes them all of 30 seconds. Too many credit checks can affect your credit score adversely. Also and this is VERY important, if asked "How much can you afford to pay each month" or "How much do you want to pay each month" DO NOT TELL THEM. I always say "that is my business, why do you want to know?" If you give them a number up front they can alter the deal in such ways that you wind up paying a whole lot more than you should.
I do not believe that Camping World is any better or worse than any other dealer in their business practices. Some of their stores are worse than others but I do think that issue is being addressed at the highest level of that company. CW needs to be like Culver's fast food places in that the quality of service is top notch not matter the location. (No, I have no connection to Culver's or CW aside from being a customer of both)

RE: Problem with Winnebago Sightseer Towing a Ford Focus

The center of the hitch receiver on my 2013 Itasca Sunstar is 24" above the ground. The baseplate on my 2013 Ford C-Max is 12-1/2" I have a Blue Ox 10" drop receiver. That all leaves 14" from the ground. So far no issues and hopefully none develop.

Unbelted passengers are no longer that in an accident. At that point they become projectiles.

RE: honda fit automatic as a toad

The online 2013 Honda Fit Owner's Manual does not show anything for Page 159 on my computer. Might be just a video card issue. Yes, Honda and the local dealer were both wrong.

RE: Replacing a recliner - any opinions?

Last year we needed to replace a very uncomfortable 8' sofa in our former 5th wheel. We bought two La Z Boy recliners and a matching love seat with two reclining seats. Since the backrest comes off most La Z Boy recliners it was easy for the deliver people to load them into our unit. They were SO comfortable that we hated to part with them when we wound up selling that RV in January. BTW: The recliners were easy to move and we had no need to secure any of the pieces to the floor.

RE: honda fit automatic as a toad

I just looked online at the official Honda Fit web site for the 2013 Fit owner's manual. The manual makes no reference to recreational towing. The only reference to four down towing is entitled "Emergency Towing".
When we were looking for a toad I called Honda's 800 customer service number and inquired about four down for the Fit. I was told the only 2013 Honda that can be recreational towed is the CR-V. A visit to the Honda dealer yielded the same answer.
Anyone have anything in writing to contradict this?

RE: Reasons for being a gate attendant or not!

Last year we worked as independent gate attendant contractors at a municipal park on a lake in the Dallas/Fort Worth area. Our schedule was seven consecutive half days, 8 - 2 or 2 - 8 (or later depending on summer sunset). We then had seven consecutive days off. The work was easy and the money decent. A free FHU spot, 30/50 amp, was furnished within 100 yards of our work station. While the work was easy the working conditions were not. Four couples were hired for that schedule. One of the couples were the couple from h*ll. They were apparently connected to the person in charge in some fashion as that person protected these obnoxious people. A very hostile work environment was created by this couple and nothing was done despite repeated complaints by the other three couples.
This goes to show that no matter what the schedule there can always be outside influences to ruin the situation.

Hitch Immobilizer

Ok, so I have the Blue Ox Alpha tow bar attached to the MH on a 10" Blue Ox drop. In several videos I have seen online there seems to be a concern about too much slop where the drop connects to the RV and where the tow bar connects with the drop. Have any of you used the Blue Ox Hitch Immobilizer II? Is this a major issue I need to be concerned about?
