RE: Roof won't stay up
Rupert I did try overcranking it and it didn't seem to work. I also tried overcranking it when I took it down but neither one seemed to have an effect. I appreciate the service manual link, I'll try to see if I can find the a fix in there. I'm also going to look in the shaft that the crank goes is and check the nut as was suggested in an earlie post.
RE: Roof won't stay up
Thanks for all the help, I appreciate the guide bondebond. Tubapete I will look in the tube I hope it's that easy of a fix. I did try to crank it up past "full up" which is what I heard would re-engage the catch but it didn't work, maybe I didn't crank it far enough. I'll try all suggestions, I'm sure I'm not the first one to have this problem. If all else fails I'll take it back to the dealer in the spring.
Happy Holidays and thanks
Tom
Roof won't stay up
I seem to remember there is a latch or something that disengages when cranking. I was winterizing my 05 Niagara when I attempted to crank it up, it wouldn't catch, if I let go of the crank the roof went back down. I tried cranking it all the way up and then all the way down to try to engage the ratchet that holds it. Is there an easy fix to this or is it a dealer fix. I can't hear the ratchet sound when I'm lifting it. I did find that if I pull slightly towards me on the crank I can hear the cranking sound but it still won't latch. Any suggestions or help would be appreciated.
Happy Thanksgiving to everyone.
RE: Roof Maintenance
bondebond,
As you said I was just going to lay the tape over the center seam that runs down the middle of the roof. I would assume that as long as I'm careful, I would get a good seal around it. I had some roof issues associated with a bike rack and end caps, had to replace side panels. Fortunately it was done under warranty. I'm just paranoid about leakage now. I know if i take the center seam cap off, it will break, or not go back in place correctly, so I don't want to mess with it. My father won't let me cut his lawn, because everytime I cut it the lawn mower breaks, he says it cheaper to pay someone else to do it!
RE: Roof Maintenance
I was thinking of doing my roof seam as well, I was going to go over the center seam not remove it and then put it back. Do you think it will still be effective? I am afflicted with a severe degree of Murphy's Law, an I know something will break.
