RE: Campgrounds near Myrtle Beach but away from crowds!!

Some friends of ours recently stayed in the cabins at Myrtle Beach State Park. A beautiful state park on the beach with hiking trails and a pier over the ocean. They were in a 3 bedroom cabin, with 2 bathrooms, 1 of the bathrooms being large and handicap accessible which was a bonus for me during the stay since I was in a cast and on crutches. There were 3 nicely done bedrooms and a large living area that included a living room and a large eating area. The beach was within close walking distance to them and you could hear the waves. They had a nice screened in porch with rocking chairs, a picnic table on the outside and a firepit for night time fires.

RE: Riverside RV Park Sevierville

We stayed here in July of 2009 and I was concerned about not having a reservation and it being the week of the 4th but they had many spots available. Our site was a back in site with the river behind us with a concrete patio and the neighbor next to us seemed really close, but we were here to tour the area and didn't spend a lot of time within the park. When we go back to the area we will more than likely choose to stay here again.

RE: Niagra Falls

We stayed at Golden Hill State Park which was about 45 minutes to an hour from the falls and also was able to use our parking pass from the park to park at the falls. We had never camped without a water hook up and was not sure if our pump even worked so that is why we chose Golden Hill because they did have water hook ups. It also had gorgeous views of Lake Ontario and our site backed up to the lake with the most beautiful sunset. There is a lighthouse in the park that we also took the time to visit and climb. We were there over the July 4th holiday and it wasn't crowded or loud at all. This was the prettiest campground we have ever camped at. As you entered into the camping area the view of Lake Ontario directly in front of us took my breath away every time I saw it.

RE: Myrtle beach in last week of March 1st week of April

Myrtle Beach state park did have a beach wheelchair outside of the store on the pier. I didn't ask about it since it was a little cold when we were there and I was just happy being on the pier.

RE: Myrtle beach in last week of March 1st week of April

We spent time there after Christmas and I was in a wheelchair. I enjoyed the boardwalk along the dunes and then was able to go out on the pier all the way to the end. We did Broadway on the Beach and there was a flea market near the park in the same shopping center as Food Lion that we visited. There were other areas I would have liked to go like the outlet mall and Barefoot Landing but I was just recovering from surgery and was limited on how long I could be out and we were only there a few days.

RE: Niagra Falls and Hershey questions.

This was our vacation this past summer and we went over the week of the 4th. We were starting in Virginia so we started in Pennsylvania and stayed for 3 nights then went up to New York for 4 nights and then came back to Pennsylvania on the return trip for 2 nights. It has probably been the best vacation we have ever taken. We did the Hershey tour on the way up and it only took half a day then we headed to Amish country and wish we had visited longer there on the 2nd full day in PA we did Gettysburg and that took a whole day and could have taken longer. We spent 2 full days at Niagra and only did the american side. We bought the discovery ticket that included a movie, trolley ride, cave of winds, aquarium, some discovery place and the Maids of the Mist. We did half on one day and the other half not to mention all the walking we did. We stayed at a beautiful NY state park in Somerset, NY called Golden Hill State Park and one of the days we spent a the park they had a beautiful lighthouse in the park and one of our companions was a golf player and he spent the day on a golf course. We returned to PA on Friday after the 4th and our tickets allowed us into Hershey 2 hours before they closed the night before and we did that and then went back and spent the entire day Saturday there. They have a waterpark within the park along with the other rides and we did not do the waterpark. I hope you enjoy your time and vacation as much as we did.

RE: Campground Near Jacksonville Florida

We've stayed at Hanna Park twice and loved it. Like another poster said you do have electric/water and sewer. We were in a pull through close to the front and could hear the sound of the ocean in the evening. It wasn't the most level sight but that's why we carry leveling blocks. There is another post going about a raccoon in a palm tree and it makes me think of Hanna, both times there we had raccoons come around us, the last time we were all sitting around the fire and it was on the picnic table behind us going through the trash. I believe the gatekeeper feeds them in the evening. I look forward to the day when we can go back and visit the park again.

RE: Camping around Daytona or Orlando

We've stayed at Bill Frederick Park in Orlando twice over the holidays so you may give them a call. We never called soon enough for a sewer sight but was able to get an electric/water sight. The sights are $19 for e/w and $23 for e/w/s. It's a beautiful park with lots of trails and it's on the back side of Universal Studios.

RE: Niagara Falls Campgrounds

We stayed at another NY state park that was also on Lake Ontario that was 45 minutes away from Niagra, it was Golden Hill State Park and they have a beautiful lighthouse in the park called 30 mile point lighthouse. We chose this campground over Four Mile because it had water hook ups along with electric. It was absolutely breath taking as you would drive in and see the Lake directly in front of you. We had a back in site that gave us beautiful sunsets every night and there were numerous pull throughs near the lighthouse with views of the lake across from them.

RE: Hershey PA RV Show

We stayed at Harrisburg East campground earlier in the month for 2 weekends, one was on the trip up to upstate NY and the other was on the way home. It was shaded, with all pull throughs, the way up we were in the first row in the 100 numbers and that sight seemed larger and longer than our return trip site which was in the 400's. There were a few seasonal campers and met one on my way back from the bathouse on the day we left when she told me to walk through her site instead of going the long way around and ended up talking to her for half an hour. It was close to I83 and had some noise from I283 but with the air running didn't notice it too bad. We payed $35 a night and it was for electric/water and sewer. No cable but a fair amount of television stations over the antenna and they had really super fast internet speed. My daughter and I watched a program off of netflix on the laptop. We thought the location was perfect we visited Lancaster and Gettysburg on the weekend we were heading up and on the way home we did Hershey. It wasn't fancy and they did charge 25 cents for a shower but we used our onboard facilities. We hope to go back to this area again one day because there was so much to see and not enough time and if we do we will stay at Harrisburg East again.

RE: 95 South from Richmond

It depends when you are traveling through the Richmond area, the vast majority of the construction is going on at night between 8 pm and 6 am and they are taking it down to 1 lane in both directions, they are currently replacing the bridges in the Richmond area. During the day between 8:30 and 3 the southbond is only dropping one lane between mile marker 77 and 79. At least for the next 2 days they are telling people to use 295, 288 or the downtown expressway to avoid the major delays they are expecting at night.

RE: Niagara Falls - Camp on US or Canada side?

We just returned from a trip to Niagara, we stayed at Golden Hill State Park in Somerset, NY. It was about a 45 minute drive to Niagara. We had looked at 4 Mile Creek but we have never potted water before and were concerned with if our pump would even work since our trailer is aging and it's never been used. Golden Hill had electric and water. Our sight was a back in with Lake Ontario behind us with beautiful sunsets every evening. There was a row of pull throughs that also had a beautiful view of Lake Ontario and a lighthouse that was inside the park. Coming from the HOT state of Virginia it was a pleasure that their bathhouse was air conditioned, the ones in the VA state parks are not. It was a bit of a drive but if we ever go back I think we will stay there again. It was beautiful and very quiet for having been over the 4th.

RE: KY and VA Experience needed

We did the route you are suggesting several years ago. We stopped at a Walmart in Middlesburg, KY to turn off the propane tanks before entering the tunnel and then once on 58 we stopped and turned our tanks back on. We pull a 30 foot trailer and the roads were no problem at all, most of your 58 alternate is 4 lanes. If you're staying at Jesse Lea, we thought it was wonderful and we loved the owner. Make sure you have breakfast at the drug store.

RE: corbin koa or mammoth cave jellystone

We stayed at the Corbin KOA in 2008 and we found it a very nice campground, it would have been especially nice if we had someone camping with us. They had gravel pull throughs where we were and patios that 2 people shared. We were at one end and a lovely family with a brand new puppy was on the other end and the kids loved the puppy. We were across from the pool that the kids loved, they also had a hayride one evening that we went on. They had a miniature golf course that the husband and kids played, they picked up the equipment in the office. Also in the office was a huge TV with a wi system for the kids to come in and play games on if they chose too or watch movies. We also don't usually stay in private campgrounds but we were in the area to see Cumberland Falls and we were not sure if the state park there could have handled our rig. We also had to take the oldest daughter to Harland Sanders original restaurant.
