RE: Replacement Shock Suggestions

DO NOT get Monroe Matic HD as I did. I should have stepped up and got the Bilstiens.

RE: Toyota Tacoma tow vehicle

I had a 2007 Tacoma Pre Runner with the tow package. I towed a 23' Jayco that weighed in at 4900#. The truck did not lack power when towing it, though I knew it was back there. It was like towing a large shoe box! Get a good WDH and brake controller and you'll be fine. I also used some mirror extensions which made it much easier when towing. Good luck and have fun.

RE: Tire Info

You have passenger car tires on your trailer. OUCH! Replace them ASAP with a quality ST radial tire. Do not use bias tires. The most popular ST tire is made by Maxxis. There are other ST tires that might be worth checking out. Hercules, newer Carlisle RH, and Tow Max. All of these are ST tires that come in your size. Be sure to have them balanced, too.

RE: Looking Rear Living under 10,000 GVWR....any suggestions?

I have to suggest checking out Horizon RV in LaGrange. It is not a mega dealer, but the owner is honest and sells his RVs at good prices. We bought our Sabre from him in 2007. He didn't carry the Columbus line at the time we bought ours, or we would have gone to him. The owner's name is Jesse Harrison. Here's their website: http://www.horizonrvcenterinc.com/index.php Good luck with your decision.

RE: Columbus TH's

I have a Columbus 320RS. While it's not a TH, they're built on the same line. The Columbus line is turning out to be a very popular 5th wheel. Their amenities and standard features are awesome, especially at their price range. I toured the factory and was impressed with the workers and production methods. Their TH line is new, but if I was looking for a TH, I would definately consider a Columbus.

jalichty wrote: Jayco's HT line are all under 10,000 pounds. We have the 26.5 RLS with two swivel rockers in the rear. No island kitchen but plenty of room. Ours came from the factory with a sticker saying that the "dry" weight is 7,272 pounds leaving about 2,600 of cargo capacity. Even with me in the FW, we don't approach that weight. Take a look on-line and then try RV Direct to see pricing. When we priced ours with RV Direct, the price with most options was $24,121, probably has gone up a bit in the last year and one-half, but might still be close to $25,000. This model is 1 I really like. If you are interested in a Jayco and live in Eastern NC, their website might direct you to Camptown RV in Clayton & Swansboro. This is one dealer I can suggest not buying from. We would be towing a Jayco 5th wheel right now if it wasn't for their terrible service and parts department. As for their sales staff, they will tell you whatever you want to hear, just to sell you an RV. i.e. I was looking at Jayco's high line 5th wheel with a GVWR of 16,000# and a hitch weight of 2700#. Their salesman assured me that my 2500 RAM could handle it and the truck's towing specs are not true. Anyway, Jayco makes a nice trailer, but be careful where you buy it.

RE: 5W vs Class A MH

One point I would like to mention is what's involved in setting up at a CG. Our best friends have a Class A. When he pulls into a site, he pushes a button and the rig levels automatically. All he has to do is plug in power and water. As mentioned, he has a generator so if the weather is bad at the time, he can at least hang out for a while. I couldn't afford the automatic leveling system on my fiver, so it takes me a little more time and effort to set up, though I do have it down to less than 30 minutes for everything. We like the roominess in our fiver.

RE: From a Class A to a 5th wheel

Our best friends have a Class "A". When we go camping together, which is quite often, we take our TV when going site seeing. We all usually eat meals in our rig. We usually watch movies in our rig. When we play cards, it's usually in our rig. I don't mind, otherwise I would have gotten a Class "A", too.

RE: The elephant behind the palm tree...

they're just jealous! I agree. People who don't RV often just don't get it. You were more polite than I would have been. When I pull in to a large parking lot with my rig, I always try to park out of the way, too. Especially being 45+ feet long. Once I parked all the way out and the parking lot was almost empty. I came out from the store and a fire truck had taken up 4 spots in front of me. I was able to pull out, but with the whole parking lot to choose from, I couldn't figure out why they almost boxed me in. As the song goes, people are crazy.

RE: Maxxis Tires - Interesting information?

I hope your tire guy balanced the tires for you. Best of luck with your new 5 year old Greenballs.

RE: shocks

DON'T use Monroe Matics HD,, I put them on the front and they bounce up and down when coming to a stop. I should have gone with the Bilsteins.

RE: Best place to stop over near GA FLO border

Exit 32 off I-295 around JAX is a really nice CG called Flamingo Lake RV resort. It can handle your rig. Here's their website: http://www.flamingolake.com/

RE: Crown International near Charlotte, N.C.

If you're visiting Fort Mills, why not check out the KOA there? Nothing special, but it's not bad to use as a base camp when visiting the area.

RE: tow dolly for Prius

I have a 2012 prius-v and Toyota told me not to use a tow dolly. Must be towed with all four wheels on a trailer. Electric motors are on all wheels of this particular model. Sorry, someone gave you mis-information. Only the front wheels are powered. There are NO motors on the rear wheels. A tow dolly will work fine, even with the Prius V.
