RE: Well this just sucks!

He said the exhaust clean out was acting up a little yesterday thru the mountains, then this afternoon, it started heating up and then just quit. Actually, he is a die-hard Ford man, but it would not surprise me to see him pull in the drive way tomorrow in a new Dodge. He is that po'ed. Bless his heart, he was so looking forward to a cold Coors and a hot tub soak tonight.

Well this just sucks!

DH left Grand Junction yesterday headed home. Our 2008 F350 completed melted down just outside of Ardmore, OK. He had to have it and the 5er towed to the Ford Dealership there and checked into a motel for the night. Hopefully, they can look at it tomorrow, otherwise, he is headed home in a rental car. Regardless, he has to secure an ice chest and empty the fridge. Would not be surprised to see him drive up in a new truck, he is soooo frustrated right now. Say a little prayer for him and the truck.

RE: PPL in Houston

We sold our last 5er thru them. The seller sets a price that they want on the unit and it is priced pretty well based on that. You can request that they take a offer to the seller for consideration.

RE: homemade dressing or stuffing??

Lots of cornbread, a few pieces of stale white bread, celery and onion that has been softened by boiling in chicken broth. Add salt and pepper and sage to taste to the crumbled bread, add the chicken broth with the veggies in it,a couple of beaten eggs, a couple of diced hardcooked eggs and add enough chicken broth from there to make it "loose", it will tighten up in the oven. For the gravy, boil the giblets and cut them up or remove them, your choice. Thicken the broth with cornstarch, cut up a hardcooked egg and mix in, along with a couple spoons of dressing. This has served my family since my Granny's days.

RE: wii

They are great fun. While I have to have one of the grandchildren to hook it up for me, I enjoy the bowling and tennis. I really love bowling with our granddaughter. It is just about as frustrating as the game in the alley!

RE: Jealous Dogs???

Our Aussie has always gotten between us if DH hugs or kisses me. She will even get up on the bed and squeeze in between us and lay on her back with her feet in the air. While I feed her and give her treats, she is is DH's puppy.

RE: Vehicle insurance

Reasonable insurance? In Texas? Yeah, right. OK, the best I found on our rv is with Progressive. You can got thru the web (what I did) or you can go to an independant insurance agent. The web is less expensive, but you have no agent. BTW, one reason, other than cost, that I went with Progressive, my son in law has a body shop and sings the praises of Progressive claims adjusters nearly every day.

RE: Oven Burns EVERYTHING What Can I do to Fix

OK, here is what I have done: I put a cast iron skillet on the very bottom, below the burner, than on the grate, I put a baking stone, then I put a cooling grate on top of that, so the air circulates under whatever I am cooking. I also am careful about preheating the oven before I try to put something in. It seems to help a lot, I have not burned the bottome of the cornbread or the bisquits since I started this routine.

RE: Monument Valley

The roads that are authorized for the self guided tours are fine for your truck. As a matter of fact, we were there in May and saw cars making the tour. BTW, it is a most enjoyable trip, take your camera and take lots of pics.

RE: Skirt Teton 5th Wheel?

We have a KZ Escalade and had the skirting made last year. I can not believe the difference in the 5er since we got it done. First off, it gives a little extra storage that is "out of the weather", next, the temp of the floor is a lot higher than without the skirting. Winds do not effect the trailer like they do without it. To answer your question, is it necessary? No, it is not. Is it worth the trouble and money? Yes, it is. I would do it again.

RE: Man Versus Mice

You might also think about the "sticky traps". I guarantee that anything that gets on them, won't get off. My cat got into some and was bald in a couple spots for a while:R

RE: RV Oven

I put a pizza stone and one of those cooling racks on top of it, I then put whatever I am baking/roasting on that rack, that allows air to flow all around the pan. It seems to work better. I also picked up a hint the other day, light the pilot and let it burn a few before turning the oven to your desired temp. Also, be sure the oven is all the way heated before you place your food in it. All these things have helped me a lot. I can even do cornbread and rolls without the bottom burning.

RE: I 70 thru the Rockies

Thanks for the input. Since I am going to be driving alone with the dog and cat, I am a little concerned about the conditions. I am hopeful, as you say, that I70 will be clear and maintained. I have traveled the road several times in the last 6 months, but now is a whole different story with the possibility of changing weather.

winter time cooking

This time of year, I love to simmer soups, the crock pot works great for that. Anyway, I found a website that others may be interested in too: www.simplysoups.com I have tried several of the recipes and they are great.

I 70 thru the Rockies

I am leaving Grand Junction sometime this weekend, headed for Texas. The weather reports are showing snow showers thru the mountains for Saturday, with temps below freezing. Does anyone know what the road conditions are at times like this? Are they clear? Icy? Would I be better served to wait till Monday to leave or maybe go south before I go east. I know that after I hit Denver, it should be good to go, just want to know that I can get to Denver from here. Thanks to all for the help.

RE: Choosing white wine to cook with

I found this on about.com A Rule to Remember Cooking with wine should be fun. If you are just starting out, keep it simple - try a young bold red (Zinfandel, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon ) in your Aunt Betty's family spaghetti sauce recipe or a dash of Chardonnay in your Creamy Alfredo Chicken recipe. Experiment with using wines in recipes, it is not rocket science and shaking recipes up with a splash or two of wine will likely make your favorite recipe that much better

RE: How to pack dishes

One key ingredient is the non slip shelf liner. That keeps everything in place and is a multi tasker to boot. I have used it for a shower mat, to keep a rug in place and a jar openner. I always have a roll on hand.

RE: just a dog

x 2 I guess this is a good place to mention something that happened last night. DH and I were coming back to the 5er after the weekly trip to Wally World in Grand Junction. We were on I70 headed east, I had slowed down for the curves and was doing about 55, a truck came around me doing 65+, no more than 1/2 mile ahead, he slammed the brakes and I had to hit mine hard and swerve to miss him. He didn't miss the deer. I have been troubled all day seeing that deer skid down the highway. It breaks my heart for things like that to happen.
