RE: dual pane windows & weight

Weight would not be a major issue to me. I doubt they add a total of 100 lbs. to the weight.
They do add to the insulation factor in both winter and summer, along with sound transfer.
I would not be without them, that's my opinion.
Ditto.

RE: Goodyear Tires

Absolutely that could be part of the problem. I'll bet a good number of those who use st tires don't even know they are only rated to 65. By the same token, I'll bet few of those who passed you were running LT's instead of st's. Lots of weekend warriors towing trailers who don't frequent forums, and may not be as informed as those of us who do. And, if they do know the limits, exceed them, and have a blowout, they'll never admit it.
That was exactly the point I was trying to make

Goodyear Tires

I am just completing a 7500 mile trip in my new Fifth wheel that has the Goodyear Marathon tires owas passed by scores of other units.n it.
I have had no problems with the tires but after driving all that distance, I have one observation to make.
We passed a total of 3 other units during that time. I travel at 60 mph. However, I was passed by scores of other units. If ST tires have a speed rating of 65mph could that be some of the problems that people are having? Some of those units about spun me around when they went past.

RE: Overweight and insurance

My take on all this is how would they weigh it if it's all wadded up on the side of the side of the road...
Not to mention drained off onto the shoulder, evaporated by the sun, blown away by the wind, or picked up by a passer-by.
Your point is a very good one.
As has been said many times, no one seems to be able to give even one example of a finding of fault after an accident due to being overweight. That is probably because it is almost impossible to determine weight after a major accident involving an RV.
If you've ever seen an RV accident site you know stuff is usually scattered all over the place. Even if the contents were scooped up by a front-loader into a dump truck and taken directly to the scales and weighted, this isn't a crime scene and there is no 'chain of custody' for evidence. No way to prove everything was weighed, something wasn't lost - or added - to the contents recovered. A lawsuit using overweight as a basis for negligence would be a waste of time so even the ambulance chasers who advertise on TV won't take the case.
While weight limits do matter for safety and equipment reliability reasons, those who say you'll get sued or your insurance won't cover you are sadly misinformed.
Well said.

RE: Leak coming from under refrigerator

His was on the side. It was the bottom vent cover for the fridge. We thought the leak was coming from the roof and were looking trying to find where the water was coming from. By chance we found the loose sealant. When it rained the water would go around the vent cover, under the loose sealant and would come out under the fridge.

RE: Leak coming from under refrigerator

My friend had a similar leak last year. We found the leak in the following location.
We removed the bottom outside vent cover. We found that the sealant between the trailer sidewall and the wood that the fridge sits on was loose. We removed the old sealant and resealed with silicone. Leak was fixed.

RE: Overweight and insurance

OK Lets see if I have this right - I heard of a person being sued / ticketed for driving with an overweight rig from my cousin's dog's groomer's uncle's sister-in-law's next door neighbor's aunt. She also was dating a french model... There - now we have proof!:R Dead horse X ad nauseum
But that guy also removed the tags from his mattress. The one that states " Do not remove upon penality of law" I heard that they have spot inspections to check along with you TV being overweight.

RE: Auxiliary Diesel Tank?

1 gallon of Diesel weighs 7.15 lbs. %0 gal of diesel would weigh 357.5 lbs + the weight of the tank. I would be concerned about the extra weight. I tow with a 2006 Dodge Quad cab 2500. I have never had a problem finding a station to fuel up.

RE: Weathered the storm

I can believe that. We had one that got blown in about 1 inch during a storm in Texas 2 years ago. It was a mega slide on a 2010 Jayco 321RLM. Wind speeds were gusting to 80mph at times.

RE: Yes I did it tonight! Dropped the fiver!

I certainly don't mean to sound harsh or criticize anyone - that's not my intention, but from the sound of most people who have dropped their fiver on their bed... it seems it could've been avoided if they got out of the truck and looked/visually inspected the hitch connection to make sure the jaws were completely closed, not high hitched, or the bar/handle went all the way across the fiver pin, or the handle was able to turn a certain way to insert a lock or pin through matching holes.
I hope this never happens to me, and am certainly not perfect, and I know accidents happen. For me, I don't think it's too much effort to get out and have a look to visually confirm and lock into place the bar that goes across the back of the pin and insert the lock through the holes - there is just too much at stake not to visually inspect and do the pull test as well, IMO. For elderly people, it may help to have their spouse visually inspect it while they're still out of the truck after the connection has taken place.
Relying on the sound of the jaws or bars closing isn't "reliable enough" from what I've seen, considering the implications of it not being secured.
Again, I don't mean to criticize, I just want to remind people to visually inspect 100% of the time after hitching, and perhaps it could save some costly repairs or worse, if it unhitches down the road.
Keeping the landing gear almost all the way down until after the pull test is also a smart thing to do. I know, it's another trip out of the truck, but again, I think there is too much at stake not to IMO, but that's just me.
I agree with you. I have never dropped mine. I check mine by getting out of the truck and visually checking that it is hooked up correctly. When I stop for fuel or at a rest stop I do a walk around prior to pulling out even if I have been with the truck. I make sure that nobody has pulled the handle and all the pins are in place. I have the same routine every time regardless how far I have traveled. Nothing beats the old Mark 1 eyeball.

RE: Fifth wheel VS Class A

Either way you need to tow something. We went with a Fifth wheel due to the fact that I can get my truck almost anyplace for repairs. Not so with a motorhome. Just personal preference.

RE: Jayco Comments Anyone??

I have owned 5 new Jayco 5th wheels thus far. My current one is a 2013 351MKTS. Although, I have only spent 21 days in it since I purchased it we are leaving for South Texas in 25 days and will not return until mid May. So far no problems noted. I have had excellent luck overall with Jaycos.

RE: Suggestions on replacement mattress

My last Unit had one made by Murphy Mattress co in Elkhart In. It was shot in 6 months. We bought a queen size replacement from a Mattress Depot. When we bought our 2013 unit we had them exchange Mattresses with our old unit. Paid abt $300 for the new one- money well spent.
