RE: Holiday Candy

Spicy Nuts
1 Tbls vegetable oil
2 c cashews or whole unblanched almonds
1/2 to 1 teas cayenne pepper
1/2 teas ground coriander
1/4 teas salt
Dash of cinnamon
Dash of cloves
In heavy skillet, heat oil over medium heat; add nuts. Cook and stir for 3-5 minutes or until lightly browned; drain on parchment or paper towels. Add the seasonings; stir to coat. Cool completely. To serve warm, place in baking pan, heated at 300* for about 5 minutes.
There's also a sweeter version of this:
SWEET AND SPICY PECANS
2 tbsp. butter
1/4 c. (firmly packed) brown sugar
1/2 tsp. cinnamon
1/4 tsp. salt
1/4 tsp. nutmeg
2 c. pecan halves
Place butter in 1-quart glass bowl. Microwave on high for 30 seconds or until melted. Add remaining ingredients and 1 tablespoon water; stir until pecans are well coated. Microwave, uncovered, on HIGH for 4 to 5 minutes or until pecans are toasted and glazed, stirring 2 or 3 times. Spoon pecans in single layer onto waxed paper. Cool.

RE: Holiday Candy

Million Dollar Chocolate Fudge
1 1/2 teas plus 1/4 c butter, divided
2 1/4 c sugar
3/4 c plus 2 Tbls evaporated milk
1/2 teas salt
1 c marshmallow creme
2 pkgs (4 oz each) German sweet chocolate, chopped
3 milk chocolate candy bars with almonds (1.45 oz each) chopped
1 c (6 oz) semisweet chocolate chips
2 c chopped blanched almonds
1 1/2 teas vanilla extract
Line a 13 x 9 inch pan with foil and great the foil with 1 1/2 teas of the butter; set aside.
In heavy saucepan, combine the sugar, milk, salt and remaining butter. Cook and stir over medium heat until sugar is dissolved. Bring to a rapid boil, stirring constantly for 5 minutes. Remove from heat.
Stir in the marshmallow cream, chocolate, candy bars and chips until chocolate is melted and mixture is blended. Fold in almonds and vanilla. Immediately spread into prepared pan. Cool. Using foil, lift fudge out of pan. Discard foil; cut fudge into squares. Store in cool dry place. Yield: about 3 pounds.
If you're not crazy about almonds, you could substitute your choice of nuts.

RE: Traveling w/Cats

I agree with FXSTOHIO, our cats (3) usually stayed in their dog crate or now that we have a motor home-on the bed and normally wouldn't need the litter box until we stopped. As two of my cats are in their teens now, I don't encourage them to eat or drink before we get on the road as we usually have some upset stomachs, but other than that, they travel well. My youngest cat is an 18 month old Maine Coon cat-16 lbs and loves to squash my lap or lay on the dash board as we are going down the road.
(Nothing says togetherness like my cat having kittens on the floorboard of our Volkswagon Beetlebug when we moved from Kansas to New England over 30 years ago. Have your pet spayed or neutered!)

RE: Maine, friendly 'parking' for TC's, need update.

The proposed ban on RV parking didn't go anywhere. I do know you can park overnight at Exit 32 Biddeford Maine WalMart to the far left parking lot as you are facing the building.

a couple of ice cubes in a sandwich size ziplocks. Gives you peace of mind when you see it hasn't changed shape or melted.

RE: Leather Repair

We feel your pain. We have a 2008 and shortly after picking it up, got a young cat. She does not dig at the furniture intentionally, but any movement of a 15 lb Maine Coon over that soft leather will puncture. Now I know why grandma had that thick clear plastic on all her furniture. That fabric does not belong in an RV. The couch will become one big patch before the cat hits middle age.

Bounder bottom slide seal keeps falling out

The bottom slide seal on our 2008 Fleetwood Bounder 36Z slide keeps falling out when the slide is extended. Of course this problem has only started after a year of owning this motorhome. This rubber seal is 13 ft long and is only held in place with an inner rib on the rubber seal to a small lip on an aluminum channel.
Has anyone else had this problem? If so what did you do to fix it? I'm thinking of using some rubber to metal adhesive to hold it up in place. Any thoughts?
Thanks in advance,
Bob

RE: Atwood 10 Gal Water Heater Starting problem

We have the same problem, but have a 2008 Bounder 36Z. It's been the same since day one, just have to keep letting it go thru the cycles and eventually it lights. We also noticed it more problematic if it is damp outside.

RE: Used tow bars and base plates

check with some of the places that offer to install the base plates. My RV service guy said he had a pile of them behind his garage as he usually installed new ones and no one was interested in the used ones.

RE: Why Would I Want a Bread Machine?

I have two and have gone through about three-wore them out. Use them at least once a week to make pizza dough, but in winter also make a lot of bread. I usually take one with us for the pizza dough as it babysits it for you.

RE: Now my turn need new printer

Recent tv ads are offering discount on new Kodak printers with trade in of your old printer. Don't know if it has to work or not. . . On the other hand, I went from a Canon to an HP several years ago and have gone thru a couple of HP's now and seem to have better luck with them (moreso now that I have a Mac). I also found turning the printers off when not in use seems to extend their life so haven't been using the wireless option on them.

RE: electric awning

We love ours now that it works. A 2008 and it was randomly opening and closing by itself and finally the motor just quit. Hopefully the new motor holds up longer than the first. We have a "wind sensor" on ours, so not supposed to hang anything on it as it could cause damage if the awning shut due to winds. It will also close if the temp drops below a certain level.

RE: Cats

We've traveled with three cats, a dog and parakeet for about 6 yrs now. It is doable. Now if I could just potty-train them and how to flush with the foot pedal. I think even with a cat sitter coming in several times a week, that two months is too long to leave them. We left our very friendly lap cats for two weeks with the understanding that our nephew would stay at our house, only to find scared almost feral acting cats on our return. The nephew decided to stay at his mom's for the 3 squares and full hotel accommodations and not tell us until we got back. He did check them every few days for food and water, but just not the same and not what we had arranged-now they travel with us.

RE: I need help "finding" our "home" state please

We paid $24 each to register the vehicles AND the motor home in Tennessee. Each county set their own rate, and some cities also add a local tax to the registration, but total usually less than $100. Driver's licenses were around $60 for the first year. House taxes were under $350 a yr, no income tax (although some dividend and interest income is taxed), sales tax between 7-9% depending on what county and gas is a lot cheaper here than we were paying in Maine (also about 70 inches less snow!). We do have a stick house here, however. Don't know how to work that in to full timing, although housing costs here are pretty cheap. Buy a hole in the wall and fix it up when you can't full time anymore!
