Pigeon Forge, Tn

We are going to the National Quartet Conv. in Pigeon Forge, Tn in Sept. We've never camped there, do you have a favorite? We prefer the state or national park setting. I know Great Smokey Mtn park is full of a lot of campgrounds. Any suggestions?

Is this September?

Is this weather not amazing? We camped over the July 4th weekend, cool days and even cooler nites. Last weekend, we were in Heber Springs, AR, 61 degrees Friday morning, daytime temps in the 70s. Today our high was 81-according to my car. Our local weather man this morning said we are on track for this to be the coolest July on record. I could seriously get to liking this!!

RE: Any 4th of July camp experiences?

Ahh yes, major holiday camping. Lots of nice folks trying to enjoy themselves, mixed in with a small percentage of idiots who ruin the time for many. Amen! 2 families up the hill from us, nice enough people, but about 10 pm they'd get rolling. Quiet time is 10-6. Well never mind that! They played their radio quite loudly, horseshoes with apparently metal stakes!, and hooped and hollered til after 1 am. I finally passed out, I don't know how long they went! The poor family with 2 small children in a tent behind us didn't sleep at all. Friday nite they were quiet and Sat nite they had movie nite but at about 11pm, the party picked up again. Horseshoes and all! If it had not been for the small children, I'd have made enough noise to raise the dead the next morning!!

OFF Mosquito repellant

We used a 'new to us' repellant from OFF this weekend. Its their Smooth and Dry spray. Goes on slightly wet but dries instantly and isn't greasy or oily in fact you dont' know you have it on. We didn't feel the need to take a shower before going to bed. And best part: It works!! We sat outside deep in the woods til after 10pm with a bite. I'm ususally inside by the time it starts getting dark. Try this stuff, you'll like it.

RE: Tom Sawyer RV Park on the Mississippi

We live in West Memphis and what I love about the place is that if they see a vehicle coming in that they dont' recognize, they'll stop it and make it leave if it is just sightseers.

RE: campground directions

RE: Casey Kasem RIP

I think we older people all listened to him on Sunday afternoons. Most of the music trivia we know today probably came from him. He had a soothing, calming voice that made you want to keep listening. And his shows were always family friendly not like a lot of the junk on today. He was one of a kind like Dick Clark and Johnny Carson. They cannot be replaced. RIP my friend. Godspeed to you.

Camping world coming to Memphis

Yes, finally!! We don't know their opening date, their web site just says coming soon. It will occupy the old American RV facility at US 78 and New Craft Rd in Olive Branch, Ms. It is about 5 miles (+or-) off I-240 and Lamar Ave/Hwy 78. Also a big Bass Pro shoppe is opening in downtown Memphis later this year. It is located in the old Pyramid building at I-40 and the Mississippi River bridge. Ya'll come!

RE: One week left

I always pay in a little extra every year because I don't know what our capital gains situation will be. If I get it back, fine. If I have to pay, it eases the bottom line. My son has extra state tax withheld to cover bonuses because they do not withhold on a bonus. After he e-filed, the state asked for a copy of his w-2. Then called his employer to see if the figures were right. They suggested perhaps that amount was meant to be put in the 401K box. Employer had to assure them the figures were correct. Took him about 2 months to get his refund.

RE: Family rescused at sea

I heard on the radio that the Navy sunk it. I'm all for adventure and sharing the love of sailing with the children, but agreed, they are too young to remember it. And like someone said kids need room to romp and run and feel green grass under their feet.

RE: Mickey Rooney pass at 93

I loved the old Andy Hardy movies. Life was so much simpler back then. I'm sure kids today would think they are too corny.

RE: Well...

Mfar, this is a bump in your road. While you'll miss the road for while, you will find peace and comfort knowing that you did what was right and took care of your mom when she needed you most. We spent last summer taking care of MIL and we'd do it all over again. So go ahead and give up that big rv, downsize and you and those pups get back out there. We'll be lookin for ya!

RE: Grandchild dilema

It will work out - she'll learn. I think it's awesome that this little girl has TWO male role models who love her very much :-) I was the oldest grandchild - and my Dad was there right from the start. But my Grampa (mom's dad) doted on me, too - and there was always a joking rivalry between Daddy and Grampa about "whose girl I was"...LOL!! But it was a wonderful way to grow up, knowing that 2 wonderful men loved me with all their hearts. I say she is such a lucky little girl. I'm sure her daddy isn't bothered by her affection toward you, he's so thankful that you were there to make here feel loved and safe and secure when he was away and couldn't be there for her. She'll outgrow it and be a daddy's little girl, but you, grandaddy, will always have an extra special place in her life.
