Tom Sawyer RV Park

This amazing campground is one of the best kept secrets! Right on the bank of the Mississippi, about 4 miles off I-40/I55 in West Memphis Arkansas. We were there this weekend, saw huge river barges passing literally right in front of us. The American Queen Riverboat passed by Saturday afternoon on its way to New Orleans. Just beautiful. Not a lot of shade but there was always a good breeze blowing in from the river. Its easy in and out if you need an overnite place while passing thru Memphis or its only 10 or 15 minutes from downtown Memphis.

RE: This and That Soup

A friends mother in law called it Mustgo Soup. If it was leftover in the frig, and it was getting old, it must go! The first time I heard her say mustgo, I thought she was saying musco and I wondered if it was animal somewhat kin to a muskrat!

RE: Easter Dinner

We will be staying home with about 30 people coming over. I will provide ham, Hawaiian meatballs, bread and my Famous Chocolate Pies! One Sister in law provides vegetables and another provides desserts making it pretty easy for all of us. And 12 kids to hunt eggs! Just hoping it doesn't rain too much so the yard won't be too wet.

RE: Spring has sprung,

Spring is trying to spring here in Eastern Arkansas. I'm seeing RVs going by more often. We had 6-8 inches of snow a week ago. but now the weeds are coming up and the Bradford pears are trying to bloom and I picked my first batch of daffodils this morning, which just bloomed out since Sunday. Temp has been in the 70's for the last 3 days. We are so ready to camp. Our first trip will be to Hot Springs, Arkansas for a grandson's outdoor wedding. Surely hoping it doesnt' rain.

RE: Coffee machines

We have a 4 cup that I still store in the original box and let it ride in the overhead above the table. Daughter in law is giving us her Keurig, she's switching to French press. It will ride in the sink and at camp will be on the table under the awning.

RE: Best HOMEMADE Potato Salad Recipe?

Potatoes, boiled eggs, onion, sweet pickle relish, mayo and about a teaspoon of mustard, salt pepper. We don't have an exact recipe, we like a bit more onion and less pickle so that's how we make it. This is pretty much my recipe too, except I use Miracle Whip instead of Mayo. Just a taste preference, mayo is to 'strong'.

RE: I Think I Might Be Weird

and here in Northern California it was a pleasant 73 degrees and it might drop to the low 40s tonight. I had a cold beer in the back yard wearing shorts and a tee shirt. Lol, go ahead and rub it in. My grandson in Oxnard said it was 70 there Wednesday when we were at 28 and having sleet. Ended up with 6-8 inches of sleet, snow and freezing rain.

RE: Have you seen this house in Joshua Tree, CA?

I didn't know about this. I'll tell my grandson about it. He was talking about Joshua Tree just the other day. He's Navy stationed at Point Magu and loving it with so much to see and do in Southern California.

Pigeon Forge, Tn

We are going to the National Quartet Conv. in Pigeon Forge, Tn in Sept. We've never camped there, do you have a favorite? We prefer the state or national park setting. I know Great Smokey Mtn park is full of a lot of campgrounds. Any suggestions?

Is this September?

Is this weather not amazing? We camped over the July 4th weekend, cool days and even cooler nites. Last weekend, we were in Heber Springs, AR, 61 degrees Friday morning, daytime temps in the 70s. Today our high was 81-according to my car. Our local weather man this morning said we are on track for this to be the coolest July on record. I could seriously get to liking this!!

RE: Any 4th of July camp experiences?

Ahh yes, major holiday camping. Lots of nice folks trying to enjoy themselves, mixed in with a small percentage of idiots who ruin the time for many. Amen! 2 families up the hill from us, nice enough people, but about 10 pm they'd get rolling. Quiet time is 10-6. Well never mind that! They played their radio quite loudly, horseshoes with apparently metal stakes!, and hooped and hollered til after 1 am. I finally passed out, I don't know how long they went! The poor family with 2 small children in a tent behind us didn't sleep at all. Friday nite they were quiet and Sat nite they had movie nite but at about 11pm, the party picked up again. Horseshoes and all! If it had not been for the small children, I'd have made enough noise to raise the dead the next morning!!

OFF Mosquito repellant

We used a 'new to us' repellant from OFF this weekend. Its their Smooth and Dry spray. Goes on slightly wet but dries instantly and isn't greasy or oily in fact you dont' know you have it on. We didn't feel the need to take a shower before going to bed. And best part: It works!! We sat outside deep in the woods til after 10pm with a bite. I'm ususally inside by the time it starts getting dark. Try this stuff, you'll like it.

RE: Tom Sawyer RV Park on the Mississippi

We live in West Memphis and what I love about the place is that if they see a vehicle coming in that they dont' recognize, they'll stop it and make it leave if it is just sightseers.
