RE: Mobile Suites towed with short bed Dodge?
I was just at DVR.............(Who make Mobile Suites) on Wed,Toured the line....went from bare frame.....HUGE............... to Finished product....... and YOU NEED all the truck, you can get..........!!!!!!!!
These guys dont mess around..:E..EVERYTHING wieghs a ton on these MS, I believe, after seeing them built, comparing to other rigs........Went to THREE plants last week................You need a DRW AT LEAST......:W.......
Great rig.......I would buy in an instant, if looking for a full time rig...They Warrent for Full Time, maybe one or two other brands that do that also.
I saw with my own eyes .......How MASSIVE they build these.;)............GREAT RIG.but, very heavy.
RE: Almost made a huge mistake
OP here, thanks for all the replies. Update: We went to Phoenix and bought a Chevy 3500 CC dually for $14,000 under sticker and they gave me what I wanted for my 09 2500. My dually has 4,950 payload and a GVWR of over 13,000. Can't wait to get the hitch installed and see how it tows. I'm a happy camper.
A plug for Thorobred Chevrolet in Chandler, AZ - they are awesome to deal with.
What hitch are you going with?????
RE: Almost made a huge mistake
I wonder why my dad carried 16,000# plates on his 1ton Dodges from 1961 thru the 1983 that he used for business and never broke or bent anything? And yes they often grossed close to that.
My dodge, I had 26,000 plates....for hauling RVs commercially.
;)
RE: Going to look at new 1500 crew cabs today
1620-----2620.........................Ford , depending on many factors.
still trying to find a range, or anything on nisson
RE: Kentucky Horse Park
Agree....KHP.......is GREAT........!!!!! My only complaint, if you use showers, because there is no full hookups......................is shower temp is pre set, and is VERY HOT......not bad in oct, but a not so nice thing, in june, july, aug.
BE SURE to make resv. ahead of time at TMMK Toyota motor Manufacturing Kentuckey in VERY near, Georgetown........lots of things to do in
Great place, huge free tour, tram ride, great learning experience, for whole family.
Visit historic Georgetown, ,,, and lots to do around Lexington, Visit really nice horse farms, Bourbon trail, distilleries, etc...............
First trip out
Well, just made my first trip out, on my "New to me"Crew cab, long box dually. I found a "Diablo" power chip in the computer, when I was cleaning it up, redoing the drivers seat, etc..............I wondered if it was working....it seemed a bit "Doggy" in town.....
I found out, ....................;) I was behind a slow vehicle, 43 mph, in a 55 zone, and oncoming traffic...............when it cleared, I had a big window, and deceided to put it in 4th gear, on the ( 6 speed manual tranny, 4;10 rear end )...and see if I needed to downshift...................any more.............Well, when the tach hit about 2300.............she was like a rocket on rails, OOOOHHHHH Yea, question answered.
I hand figgured my mileage, without the fiver, and a tonaue cover on bed, 65 mph freways, and normal city driving......17.6 MPG.....I can live with that, due to lower fuel quality of ULSD.
I did find one issue, if I started out , fresh and cold, when I stopped at stop sign or light, pedal would drop quite a bit, but if I reved it up, it would build vacuum.............and no issues after that...... This would only happen first time on start up, after sitting a bit.....Failing Booster, ? Vacuum pump????? or normal for this ...(Note, my 5.9 Cummins never showed this behavior)
Overall, very happy with the 7.3 crew , dually, longbed.
RE: Weighing an RV in the Oklahoma City area
If there are ANY truck stops in your area.................one should have a CAT scale, which can give you TRUE axle weight.
Failing that, find a gravel , dirt sales, type yard, ask if they can weigh your rig......BUT, that will be Total weight, not by axle, which is what you want.
CAT SCALES NEAR YOU
Checkers truck stop, I-40, I -35exit 127,, Petro Stopping center, same exit,TA truck stop, I-40,exit 142..
There, on edit I found these on Cat scale locater;)

RE: Please Help Us- First time RVers and Pulling Our Hair Out
I know exactly what you mean. The fun part is looking, then you get to where we are, and you start narrowing down issues, trying to smooth the concerns and make the purchase. Enjoy the looking! We spent a lot of time and numerous trips back and forth, sometimes spending 30 minutes or more looking at everything in one camper, playing out in our minds things we want to be able to do. After years of looking, we feel it's time. You'll get there. I struggled with over thinking. Just this afternoon, I got the cold feet and thought "well, we cant use it every weekend....isn't that a waste?"...you'll talk yourself in and out of one over and over again. At least we did.
We are on schedule for Saturday at 11am. We arrive, test out the trailer with my truck, if its a go, we pull it to the camp site located on their campus. I get to test myself with both back ins and pull through, then its a 2 hour long set up class and a free night of camping.
Cedar Creeks are nice. Any idea on size?
Sounds like you have a good plan. I expect you will find your truck will tow the 5er just fine and I'm anxious to hear how it all works out for you. What hitch are you getting?
The Cedar Creek we're looking at is about the same size as your NuWa.
I am scheduled for the hitch install on Friday, I drop the truck off tomorrow after work. I am getting the B&W companion hitch. That why I can haul either 5th wheel or gooseneck and easily remove them to get my 8 foot bed back.
Good Choice, I have had 3 trucks, with the "Rails", am now installing a B&W,and Companion...very excited.
RE: Please Help Us- First time RVers and Pulling Our Hair Out
I know what you're saying but its hard to believe that a 2500 HD Ram can't take a 5th wheel like these. Everywhere I look its 2500 or 250 pulling bigger, longer. I have exhausted every available source from dealers, manufacturers and the internet and every one of them have a different way of calculating it and have different max weights. Even Ram doesn't come up with the Sam as the sticker says. This has becoming an absolute mess and I am more confused now more than ever.
Sorry to say, but MANY people are pulling at the edge , or just over...which may be good for THEM..........YOU need to figgure what is right for YOU...........
Put it on your truck, and find a empty lot, deserted street.etc............. try some "Evasive " manuvers, and some Fast to zero EMERGENCY stops ...
Does it feel comfportable to YOU....no elses opinion matters, at that point..
If so, and MOMA likes it...go for it, NUWAY is a great brand.
RE: Poll on cruise control and propane
Anyone have any concerns about running the propane and fridge while going down the highway? Just a thought.
WHY ON EARTH..............?????????
Propane fridges have been in use for 50 PLUS years , in RVs, .
There are some fridge issues , related to maint, and Fridge MFG defects....
YOu have much more chance of the 20-40 Gallons of Explosive liquid, coming out of the thin Metal, or Plastic tank ...under your car/ truck.
27 Plus years in fireservice............I can not recall last time issue with "Propane fridge" going down the road ..IT IS MADE for that ..USE it.
Yes, and Yes ....to the question.
RE: Book with Orbitz,,NOT!!!!
Wow, In some busy airports........Like, Hmmmm Atlanta.....you may need that 90 min, to make connecting flights. You wanted cheap tickets..so you went to ORBITZ.........:h
Sounds like it would be far better ...............if you CHARTER a private LEAR jet for them.............Then you might be happy.:S
RE: Are any of the Flagpoles Made in the USA?
I have a telescoping flagpole from these guys. They manufacture the poles in Minnisota and the flags are made in the USA. Very pleased with the products
Again, "internet price" for the 25 foot, $399. I would love to have one to carry in the motorhome for my amateur radio antennas, but...
Sorry, can't afford it!
Well......................I own 2 of their poles, plus Flags................AND......they stand up to ANY Weather..
The next day, after I put up the big one, I think 25 ft.,we had a storm come in off Lake Michigan........50 MPH Plus winds, driving rain..............the roads were 4-7 inches deep in water .................it BENDED........But came back up straight..............this was about 8 years ago..........
I carry the 20 ft in the rv .............:C
They are built like a Brick.." Sh$##*@se".well, you know what.:W
And, keep an eye on the site, home shows....you can get them on sale......BUT, You are paying for QUALITY.......
RE: Ridiculous price of Fifth Wheels
If you think that the price on a New 5th wheel is "Bad", just look at a basic Pop-up now..........$10,000.00.......Yup, 10 Grand..............for canvas..............
I was at a RV dealer yesterday, so ....that is the show room price...check it out...........all things getting more expensive...........$3.50 for a loaf of bread, etc.............
RE: When boondocking, which is more cost effective?
We have a diesel generator. Should we use the generator or propane to run the refrigerator? Which would be more efficient?
ThanksDiesel smells, you get oil all over yourself puting the fuel in. Then tract it in you home. Propane is cheap and works great.
Hmmm, I'm trying to picture how you get oil ALL over yourself while fueling. Are you talking about leaking oil from vehicles that you can step in? All vehicles can leak oil whether in the diesel lane or gasoline lane. We don't have propane as we are all electric with a diesel genny and diesel Aqua Hot. Propane also has a smell when burning.
I have yet to track in diesel or oil into the motorhome in 6 yrs. and 57,000 miles. It costs too much to spill. :D
MM.
On edit: I misread 'oil all over yourself' as' fuel all over yourself'...oops. I made a correction.
Actually ..you were right in the first
place.........................."He" hates diesels, and bad mouths them every chance he gets...most of us just "Ignore" him.
Propane is way cheaper to run the fridge, more Bang for the buck. But, you also run the risk of "Getting propane smell all over, and tracking it in":W
RE: 5th Wheel Hitch/Gooseneck Hitch adapters.
I looked at doing the same thing....................BIG issue, is the strain it puts on the Front frame, of the fiver....and MFG will no longer honor any warrenty on the fiver frame, if you do it.
I went ahead and got the B&W turnover, and Companion hitch.................cant install yet, truck full to bed rails...actually over top of bed , with SNOW...up here.:S
