RE: Bought a used HTT today!

As far as weight distributing hitches goes, you most definitely need one! I am not usually one to go over board on safety equipment but with your tow vehicle I wouldn't feel safe or at ease without o e. if you read your owner's manual, it will tell you that one is required over a certain tongue weight, which i'm sure you'll be at.

RE: Morro Bay, CA.

i think you'll have to go inland to find anything, unless someone cancels. most July campsites in the area, are gone by February.

RE: First timer

first, it would help if you told us what type of RV(class A, B, C motorhome?) and model, instead of a 6-7 seater RV. second, not sure how much research you've done on Redwood NP, but it's pretty big and there's lots of options to drive and visit. do you plan on camping there or just make stops along the way? and 299 is windy and you'll need to pull over if you are driving only 45mph, to let traffic by. there's no high elevation along there or 101. DON'T take Highway 1 south of Leggett. not for first-timers. stay on 101.

RE: The Shakedown...our successful first trip out.

we've been trying to get to Mt. Madonna all year, but life keeps getting in the way. hoping to get over there before summer starts, cause we refuse to camp in the summer. we'll wait until school starts again to go camping.

RE: Truck or SUV recommendations

The Sticker inside the cabinet says 4963 with no water etc. I am probably going to get a Ford f150 with the 5.4 or the Toyota Tundra if I can affort it :) good idea, wayyy too much trailer for a Tacoma.:E make sure it has the factory tow package with a good towing rear end ratio.

RE: looking for tongue weight KZ Coyote 23 clt

I've got a 2003 KZ Coyote 23 CLT (bunk popouts in front and on both sides, no slideouts), and I need to know its tongue weight (looking at purchasing a smaller tow vehicle). The spec sticker on the outside of the trailer has fallen off, so all I know is its unloaded weight which is 3306 (from a sticker inside the trailer). Its not listed in the trailer manual. Anyone here have this trailer and know its tongue weight? Thanks why don't you weigh it yourself?:h that would be more accurate than someone quoting a brochure "dry" weight. you can use a regular bathroom scale to do it. i've actually never seen any other owner of this model, other than you, on any hybrid forum. so you might have a long wait for a response.

RE: Cub 160 owners manual

if you had checked Aerolite's website, it would have directed you to the site that has more downloadable manuals and info, than any other RV manufacturer that i've ever seen. Aerolite manuals

RE: Bed end support conversion

from this question being asked a number of times, all the manufacturers that responded, said a big NO. the hybrids with cable supports, have bunk door frames/trailer structure engineered to support the cables. yours doesn't. it would be the same as trying to convert a popup with pole supports, to the newer cable-supported popups. totally engineered differently. i wouldn't sleep on it.

RE: Cali beach or waterfront

just be aware, there is huge competition for what you want and most state park coastal sites are gone in seconds, 6 months in advance. there are very few private campgrounds with what you want and they are also gone quickly. if you're going to be there off-season and during the week, you might get lucky. now, if you go to NorCal(north of San Francisco), it's easier to get sites.

RE: Oxygenics - complete water shut off or still a trickle

I like the trickle. It keeps the water from being super cold or hot when you turn the water back on. Ditto!

RE: Buying first TT or Maybe Class C

you haven't made it clear if you have or don't have a truck to pull a TT. will you have to buy a truck also, if you go with the TT? if you already have a truck, you need to post all its info, so we can determine what it's capable of towing.

RE: New to RVs

i guess we should just ignore that any hybrid's frontal area, will exceed every minivan's manufacturer maximum amount.:R except the one minivan truly capable of towing a hybrid, the Astro/Safari with the 4.3 Vortec built on a ladder frame chassis. Interstingly, my Expy EL suggests a frontal area of 60 sq ft. Our small HTT exceeds that too. luckily, you have a v-8 and a rear end, with low gear ratios, that has enough torque to overcome the air resistance, whereas most minivans only have 3L v-6 with high gear ratios.

RE: question on towing my featherlite-hitch weight?

thanks guys...cant wait.. im not gonna lose sleep over all this..gonna enjoy myself... I forgot anyways, im over 50 miles from campground. cant get wood anyways till at cg..oh well.... ny state law my hat's off to you, yankeeslover! in the 7 years i've been on the Hybrid forum, i've never seen a newbie post so many questions, in such a short period, as you have.:W but it's better to ask than to not. but you really need to do your Camp Driveway before you take off. that way you'll get familiar with everything before you leave. get a list of things to ask about and put it in one post, instead of starting a post for each question. that way it's easier for us to answer in one thread.

RE: found new tongue-mounted bike rack system

As far as the tongue weight goes bikes are so light even four of them would barely add 50 lbs. that's where you're wrong. only very expensive bikes weigh less than 20lbs. the average Walmart/Target adult bike will easily weigh 50lbs. for one of them. so, even with two adult bikes and two kids bikes, with the rack system, you'll easily be over 100lbs. Yeah now that I think about it you are probably right..... My wife and I's bikes are around 25 pounds a piece. In my case even if they were 50 lbs I am overkill on my tow vehicle enough that it still wouldn't affect me however I know that's not the case for everyone. you must have good bikes to be around 25lbs. my $2000 full-suspension xc race bike weighs about 25lbs.

RE: Can My Truck Pull this? (Noob)

you either find a trailer that's GVWR is under the 4000lbs. capacity of your truck or you look for a bigger tow vehicle. smaller trailers usually don't have a large cargo capacity, like bigger trailers do. so using the GVWR as a guide, is good for smaller trailers. the smart thing to do, if you decide to upgrade your tow vehicle, is to find the floorplan you like and then buy a tow vehicle capable of easily towing it. when we were shopping for a truck and trailer, we first settled on which model trailer we liked. we then looked for the appropriate tow vehicle. initially, we loved the Ridgeline. but with its 5000lbs. limit and the fact the Honda discourages using a WDH, we quickly decided that it would be overmatched for the 5000lbs. loaded trailer we wanted. we bought an Avalanche which gives me over a ton of extra towing capacity and plenty of room for payload. unfortunately, the Colorado is well known as a lousy tow vehicle, unless you got the 5.3 v-8 engine.

RE: found new tongue-mounted bike rack system

that's why i bought a tow vehicle that is more than capable of towing my trailer. i didn't want to have to worry about carrying water or putting a 75lbs. of bikes/rack on the tongue. i've got plenty of capacity to do this. i always travel with a full FW tank so i don't have to deal with filling it, when i arrive at the campground. plus the water weight barely affects gas mileage, cause it's the trailer's frontal area that affect mpg the most. too many people buy a marginal tow vehicle and have to not carry water and worry about every pound of weight. especially minivans pulling hybrid TT's.
