RE: Motor access latch

I've found many for my 23 year old Chrysler TC Maserati which is very rare. So what's with a simple latch.
No one is really saving parts for our older units and they tend to be scraped. If you were looking for mechanical parts or appliance parts you could find pretty much what you need but specific exterior parts are hard to find used and almost impossible new. You could get lucky and find a NOS part, just keep looking and asking on the various RV sites.
If you could post a picture that may help. It sounds like what is on our '92 Holiday Rambler...

RE: Motor access latch

Looking for new, not used.
Finding a new part for a sixteen year old motor home may prove to be difficult.

Most likely you're going to have to search the the RV recycle yards.

RE: The old girl is back - where to start

I got the same email. I got all excited that the thread was active again, but, I was disappointed. Maybe we need to update what we all have been doing since the thread died. As for myself, thanks to this thread, I have completely replaced all the heating system, got the dash air conditioner working, bled the brakes, fixed the oven, had the refrigerator coil reconditioned, replaced all the shocks, and had the Quadrajet carb reconditioned. Much of that I had no idea how to do until Steve showed us how.

RE: loosing coolant

Does this engine have an EGR cooler? If so it could be leaking into the exhaust. A friend had that happen with his Dura Max.

RE: What about adding Old School Fender Skirts ?

I had fender skirts on my 54 ford in HS. It still got 12 mpg. However I noticed allot of trucks have these long skirts on each side. I assume they must somehow reduce wind turbulence under the rig improving mpg.
Ahhh, could it be your right foot weighed more when you drove the Ford??
Yep, all those "skirts" on the big trucks are there to increase fuel mileage. It did. It also had 411 gears in the rear and a 312 bored out to about 326 ci. So the combination coupled being 18 all contributed to the low mpg.
Yep ! Been there, done that! :B

RE: LED tailight upgrade

I used aluminium foil as a reflector in our tail lights, it really made them brighter and easier to see. Cheap and easy (that's me!)....
I will repeat myself here. This is cheap, easy and worked. before spending money on anything, give it a try.

RE: What about adding Old School Fender Skirts ?

I appreciate that CRAMD.
I was only thinking if a guy could add a little MPG to the RV
by reducing the wind resistance.
if a miniscule increase in MPG is necessary, you are driving the wrong vehicle.
bumpy
Huh ?

RE: SuperCharger's for RV's

One of my automotive magazines did a fun test using a leaf blower as a turbo charger... Believe it or not the leaf blower actually did have a positive affect on power. Not practical I know but a fun read.

RE: Mirror upgrade

I would like the mirrors GM puts on the 4500, they're nice and big but the mounting arms are much too long. They also have a bigger mount on the mirror so using the existing mount won't work. It would be nice if someone would offer bigger mirrors then what is on most gas motor homes.

RE: Exhaust brake vs. Jake brake

I am seeing more and more signs stating "jake brakes are not allowed" on the highways/streets. They make a lot of noise apparently.
Only when straight pipes are run..... I admit I like the sound of an unmuffled diesel with the "jake" applied,......

RE: What about adding Old School Fender Skirts ?

Look for fender skirts to start showing up on tractor trailers for their smoothing effect at the rear wheels. They have already stated to put side skirts on semi trailers to smooth air flow.

I agree with the others, with 30 years of driving tractor/trailer 99% of lighting problems were bad ground.....

RE: Cummins v8

One reason for the V type engine is packaging, they are shorter then inline engine....
And with 40% more parts than the inline.
Just my penny;s worth.
Yep, you're right. But with engine bays getting smaller and vehicles getting shorter (check out a late model pick up compared to an older model) you'll see the advantage goes to the V....
