RE: S.D registration

As far as SD is concerned, you can register vehicles there and not ever get a SD driver's license. The problem comes in with your "legal residence" state thinking you're avoiding paying "their" taxes. Why not make SD your legal residence and get their driver's license? I assume you think the difference is that you have a sticks & bricks house in MO. If you "move" to SD, you can still own a second home in MO (the RV is your primary).
All that said, seek the advice of a competent attorney because his/her advice will be worth more than you paid here. :)

RE: Saltless water softener

Here's a direct link to their explanation of how it works.
Lots of words that don't say much. I always get suspicious when there are lots of big words strung together yet there are also errors in the proper use of even the simpler words.
No, I haven't used this device. Just offering an opinion.

RE: Satellite radio external antenna

I think you're trying to mix apples and oranges. I'm not familiar with your rig or the Genesis but an aux satellite radio antenna is an entirely different thing than a media cable input
Correct. I just want to use the existing wiring to avoid putting my antenna wire out a window. And, yes, I'm looking for an apples-to-oranges adaptor.

Ok... here is some interesting reading.
And... if you're feeling REALLY froggy... this will keep you occupied for a minute or two. :)
Apparently, the 75ohm sat cable CAN be used because the loss per foot is less than the factory XM antenna cable. Who knew??? :W

RE: What is the problem?

I may be posting and the connection fails, removing the post.
Losing posts after typing but before posting completes is the worst! As I tend to be a little long-winded sometimes, I've learned to highlight and ctrl-C my text before I hit the post button. That way, if it goes kablooie, I get my text back with ctrl-V.

RE: Camping World CREATING its' own negative public perception

Yes, I stand corrected... there ARE some resolution posts. I'm trying to figure out why the going private posts stand out more in my mind than the resolutions. It could be because I'm not actually following those threads to resolution as I hang out on the "Newest" page and follow what interests me. My point is that I, personally, perceived a negative when the initial response is to, most often, go private. Just trying to help, guys. Really. I like Camping World and want it to thrive. Just trying to give you a heads up on my perception so that you can consider it (as you've said you will).

RE: Camping World CREATING its' own negative public perception

Hello blangen,
Thank you for your post. However you have to remember that the resolutions are in fact private, and not a matter of public record. It is not our place to discuss the resolutions with the Public at large. It is up to the the individual with the issue to post his or her thoughts on the resolution. As at the end of the day it is a private matter between them and our company. We will not violate their privacy, and I think asking us to violate that privacy is frankly uncalled for.
Thank you for your thoughts and comments on this. They will be taken into advisement.

But the poster brought his/her complaint public. There's no reason to believe they wouldn't allow the resolution to be public, as well. Additionally, closing the thread keeps the party from posting their own update. I don't think I've ever seen a resolution update.

RE: Fulltimers: What type of rig do you have?

Giving up planes and hotels, we (my wife consults with hospital systems around the country) walked into a dealer and bought a 29' Keystone trailer... thinking we were being efficient by staying a little on the small side and being frugal. Used it for about a year before we realized more closet space as well as "basement" storage were true necessities. We took a bath selling that trailer.
Currently have a 41' diesel pusher and the remaining four-door pickup. We sure wish we would have bought the larger rig first... would have saved a ton of money .

Camping World CREATING its' own negative public perception

Hi Marcus, (or whomever intercepts, please forward to Marcus)
As it is now, someone complains publicly on this Forum, a Camping World or GoodSams representative (apparently) responds... taking the conversation away from the Forum. The end result is that we read the complaints but never see the resolution. Have you considered that this practice, alone, CREATES a Camping World and Good Sams negative public perception??? Frankly, if you were TRYING to breed a negative perception in the minds of your primary and potential customer base, you couldn't do it any better.
How about a little transparency by either continuing the conversation online or, at LEAST, not closing the thread? It would seem that, in real transparency, individual stores would monitor and respond... and resolve... problems before they get bigger. Also, at that point, your operation runs smoother. Individual store staff too busy to monitor? You have a small army of very knowledgeable internet-using RVers right under your nose.
Surely, ANYTHING is better than repeatedly publishing complaints and, then, taking the resolutions private.

RE: Closed Thread?

Ok... I understand the "legal action" being mentioned closes a thread. But... up until that point, I think allowing others to see resolution is very important. As it is now, readers see complaints but never the resolution. For that reason, alone, Camping World is building its' own negative public perception. How about a little transparency??? We'll learn that Camping World DOES stand behind their products/work... rather than go behind closed doors and goodness knows what happens.

RE: Winter in Nevada? Be aware

Under the current Nevada law, If you are in the state for 30 days you must register your vehicle(s) in Nevada. If you don't your in for a serious fine and the cost of registering and plates.
This proposed law makes it cheaper for snowbirds to stay in Nevada and avoid the registration and/or fines.
Just a thought... I could easily be wrong but I'm thinking that thirty day to register law is for someone moving to Nevada... ie: no longer living in another domicile state with properly registered vehicle and address.

RE: Winter in Nevada? Be aware

Eighteen bucks a year for each vehicle, and seven for each (old) person. That's fifty bucks for a couple with a moho/toad combo.
Hard to believe folks would rather go back north in January than spend such a pittance, but I s'pose some might.
"Up north"? Maybe not. Across the state line? The odds are much better.

RE: Convection Microware upgrade question

I just talked with the rep for our RV and the only reason they didn't have it for an option was that the unit they use wouldn't fit into the smaller space that was available in the kitchen slides. Now if I can just find a nice small stainless micro/convection combo unit I'll be set.
Here's the Sharp 930 that was the exact replacement for my original from 2004.... so they've been making it for a long time. Anyway... will this fit? If you add about an inch on each side and about 3 inches on the top and bottom, you can use the optional built-in grill for around the edges. Again, not cheap... but very good, in my opinion.
PS: Amazon has it a little cheaper and with free shipping.

RE: Convection Microware upgrade question

In my 2004 Damon, the combo convection microwave is in the slide. There is a vent out the back of the oven but some custom made galvanized duct work deflects it and brings it out the front of the built-in grill which surrounds the unit. There are only a couple of screws attaching the duct to the oven... the rest of the connection is just aluminum tape that seals around the edges. In short, vent it out the front and you should have no problem at all.

RE: Winter in Nevada? Be aware

As was stated in the article, it'll run off more people before the 31 day mark than what it will collect in revenue. I, personally, will make sure I'm there less than 31 days. Be careful, Nevada... you're about to shoot yourself in the foot.

RE: Class A motorhomes for dummies -- Is there a book?

In the Open Roads Forum (the "Parent" of this sub-Forum), click on Newest and just read whatever goes by. Yes, you'll see some things that don't apply to your rig but there are also many, many overlapping systems and concepts. BEST education there is.

RE: Dish Tailgater

Buy the VIP 211K receiver to use with your tailgater (they are not expensive). You can add a USB external hard drive ($40 one time charge) and you have a DVR.
This is what we do. But... keep in mind... the DVR will only record/watch one show at a time. No watching one and recording another. The realistic use of this setup is to watch live when you like and record shows when you are not currently watching. When watching live, the "Back" and (after you have backed up sufficiently) "Forward" still work to skip approximately 20 minutes per hour of commercials.

RE: Freedom 458- Replace or consider a different unit

I just replaced by Freedom 458 about a month ago. It was over 10 years old and, of course, MSW. I got a pretty good deal on a new true sine wave with a larger larger and the difference is night and day from my old 458.
Make and model of your new unit, please?

RE: Winegard Carryout need maintenance?

Thanks, Fred. Washed the dome but that wasn't it.
Yes, although they are "designed to be maintenance free", age often messes with even a good design. I'm thinking there has to be a a friction point or, perhaps, even the little rubber belt can dry rot, stretch or just plain wear out. I'm hoping someone with more more experience than I can point me in the right direction.
I haven't called Winegard yet... thought I'd see if there was a tip or trick that comes from the experience of use rather than what the book says (or doesn't say). :)
