RE: Black Friday "wally-docking"
We do all of our shoping at Walmart & Target
Bob & Judy
If you feel yourself being irresistibly drawn to Walmart on Black Friday, just go scan through a few pages of http://www.peopleofwalmart.com/ and hopefully, that will jerk you back to reality. Just wait and see the veritable FLOOD of new pictures after this years shopping day from hell, and you'll be glad you weren't there.
I don't go to Walmart the other 364 days of the year either.
:):)It looks like you and I spend the same amount of time in Wal Mart, but it might be worth stopping just to see some of the people in those pictures!!!!:)

RE: Emergency Roadside Service
We have Good Sam's ERS and have been very happy with them , in early 2008 we had fuel pump go out at a stop light just outside of Hemet Ca. the closes not busy big Tow Truck was about 60 miles away to the north of us it took it almost 2 hr. to get to us, then they found a rv shop that would take us right in with no wait was about 45 miles south of us,they had about 60 Rv being worked on we did not have to wait
last month our jeep would not start we called GS ERS they had a tow truck there in about 45 min. they said there was 2 shops in the town we was in that was in, we told them that we wanted to go to the Jeep garage in the next town ,they said that was fine that they would tow us to Jeep.
We have been very happy with GS ERS

RE: Hwy 93 from Kingman AZ to Las Vegas
Hwy 93 over the dam can be a short stop or a long stop. You never really know. And there are some tight switchbacks on the LV side with rock outcroppings.
For that reason we changed years ago and go over thru Laughlin to Hwy 95 when going up and back.
that is also why we take the Laughlin/Bullhead City route
the last time we went over the Dam it took us about 2 Hours to get from Boulder City Nv. to the Dam
Bob & Judy
RE: Hwy 93 from Kingman AZ to Las Vegas
Hi,
The reason it is not listed as a truck route is the trucks are not allowed to cross Hover Dam. Thus no through trucks possible.
RV's can cross the dam, with the inspections listed above.
When on the dam, look to the west, there is a new 2,000 foot long concrete arch dam going up. You must take a picture and post it here, for us to look at! Really. You will get three demerits for not posting and two brownie points for posting a good picture.
Thanks in advance for the picture!
The new bridge will take off about 2 miles from the route, it will be 4 lanes, avoid the switchbacks and slow crossing of the dam.
In three years, the bridge will be the primary route across the Colorado River, and one of the longest Concrete arch bridges. We are being told tourists will still be able to cross the dam on foot and by cars, but no more trucks or RV's will be allowed on the dam.
AFTER The Bridge is open CARS will not be able to cross the dam, the dam will be open to foot traffic Only

RE: replacing RV refrigerator with household frig
we put in a Magic Chef from Home Depot for $299.00 in our Motor Home about 5 years and it works great ,also when at home it in use all the time as a back up freezer 24/7
could not see spending $1500.00 for a RV refer.
Bob & Judy
I tried the Magic Chef model from Home Depot and it only lasted 2 weeks. I noticed in the manual that it was NOT FOR USE IN RVs. I bought a Haier model from Brandsmart to be used in dorms and campers. A sales manager told me that if it didn't work, bring it back. That was 2 years ago. When I hit the road I run my generator until I reach my destination. I have stayed on the streets of Brooklyn for 2 weeks and run my generator 24/7 and have had no problems. I will only buy another RV with a residential fridge. And, they are a lot safer than LP.
RE: Rt 66
back then a lot of trucks pulled doubles 20 or 25 ft trailers.
there is one section of Hwy 89 near Yarnell Az that was the main 2 lane hwy from Phoenix Az. to Prescott & Flagstaff Az before the days on the Interstate Hwys.that is the same way.
Bob & Judy
....
I always wonder how they got the simis over that section. Im sure the road surface was better then than now but it was still just as narrow and tight turns
hpk
For starters, the semi-tractor itself & the trailers were a lot shorter & narrower back in "the day". I think OTR tractors with twin drive axles were a relative rarity until after WWII, and I believe trailers weren't much over 36 or 40 feet. My grandad sold Macks in NC & SC going back to when they had solid rubber tires and chain drive in the late 19-teens. He told a few hair-raisers about driving new units over the primitive roads of the era for delivery.
Jim, "You can't get there from here."
Yea I know. I have been on that section in the last couple of years and would think it was still a challange even with a 30 footer. I had driven it several times in the 60's but dont remember much about it.

RE: Rt 66
the part of 66 from Slegiman Az west to Kingman Az is good 2 lane road that we use all of the time with our Motorhome
but the part from Kingman to Oatman is not meant for RVs like others have said
Bob & Judy
RE: Good Sams ERS-Positive experience.
we have had Good Sams ERS over the years & have had very good service from them 3 times with a CAR & 3 or 4 times for the MotorHome

RE: Las Vegas to Death Valley
also the desert around Lake Mead is nothing like Death Valley ,We stayed at a ROD park in Pahrump NV. And made 4 day trips to Death Valley , Pahrump Nv is about 50 or 60 miles from Las Vegas Nv,
Bob & Judy
RE: Las Vegas to Death Valley
I dont Know what the high is for Death Valley , but one Aug a few years back we spent a week in Laughlin Nv. on the river it was 127 there for the whole week , we got tired of the heat and spent the next week in Las Vegas as it was a lot cooler there , it was Only 117 in Las Vegas.
being from Canada , late June, July, August , & early Sep. ,I think you will find the desert southwest very hot, kind of like walking into a oven.
in 1954 I lived in Trona Ca. which is a few miles west of Death Valley it was over 110 there in May.
Have a good trip.
Bob & Judy
But there is nothing like the Desert
my wife lived in Wash. State all of here life we made one trip to the desert and we moved here
RE: mpg on diesel?

RE: Best Route to Sedona
Instead of climbing to about 7000 feet at Flagstaff, turn off at Ash Fork az (hwy 89 ) take this south for about 45 miles ,1/2 way between Chino Valley & Prescott Az, you will see a freeway ( this is a bypass around Prescott & Prescott Valley ) turn left on this Hwy 89a Freeway , at end of the freeway ( about 8 or 10 miles) the hwy splits Hwy 89a to the left ( Do Not Take This) take the right fork ( Fain Road ) take Fain Rd to Hwy 69 turn left on hwy 69 ,go to 2nd or 3rd Light turn left (hwy 169 ) take hwy 169 to I17 , take I17 to hwy 260 (Camp Verde , left on Hwy 260 to Cottonwood, turn right on hwy 89A to Sedona Az , this part of 89A is good road.
It shorter this way & no mountain to climb , all good 2 lane road , a few hills.
Bob & Judy
PM us if more ?
P.S. the drive north of Sedona on 89A without the RV is great
RE: Info on Yarnell / Peeples Valley Az. area?
I think you wanted 21 F not -21 F .
it was a low of 26 F here , 3 days ago here in Chino Valley ( but it is a dry COLD)
the cold in Wa.is a very damp cold that goes right thru you , we lived in OLYMPIA wash. before moving here
Sounds like you will like Peeples Valley better than Port Orchard. Consider:
Comparison Weather Facts
* Yarnell, AZ on average is warmer than Port Orchard, WA by 9°F.
* Yarnell, AZ recorded the highest temperature of 105°F in 1925.
* On average Yarnell, AZ is cooler than Port Orchard, WA by 5°F.
* The lowest temperature, -21°F in Yarnell, AZ, was recorded in 1937.
* On average, Port Orchard, WA is wetter than Yarnell, AZ by 34.8in.
..Good Luck....Dennis Thanks Dennis, I really enjoyed your posts over the years! I missed your post because we were typing at the same time. Were going to keep our home in Port Orchard and live there May thru October. I'm into warmth more than cold so I'm thinking of moving more west toward Quartzsite. John
