RE: Toyota Tacoma tow vehicle

I towed with a ranger for several years. IMO, go full size 1/2 ton. The MPGs are only 2 mpg or so worse. The truck is much larger and has better abilitys. The size is what sucks when towing with a mini truck. Any wind and you'll have sway. I've been there and done that (for too long!).

RE: Buying Used, a guide of what to look for.

Main this is to check for leaks. Leaks rot the wood frame and the trailer is then basically junk. Check the roof any recaulk or apply eternabond tape over any hairline cracks in the old caulking. After leaks, the next biggest thing is AC and fridge. Other issues can be fixed fairly cheaply.

RE: Keystone decals peeling

I just redid some of the graphics on my 2005 keystone. I bought a bulk roll of the same color and cut them myself as I applied them. It turned out pretty good… way better than the cracked decals. You NEED the 3m eraser wheel to remove the old graphics. It works great, but doesen’t last long. I used one entire wheel to remove an 8’ by 7” stripe.

RE: What do I need to add to my truck to tow my RV?

Sorry, just saw you said the hitch weight is 700 lbs. It will be close, but you should be ok.

RE: What do I need to add to my truck to tow my RV?

You payload rating is around 1300 lbs and your trailer is going to use about 900 lbs of it. That leaves you with 400 lbs for your passengers, truck accessories, hitch, gear, etc.

RE: What do I need to add to my truck to tow my RV?

You are going to be over your payload. Get air bags. I have air lift 1000s and an wireless one compressor on my 2011 ram 1500.

RE: Repair or replace roof?

Wow this is an easy one to answer: Step 1: Take the insurance money for the full roof replacement and pocket it. Step 2: Fix the roof yourself with eternabond tape. Its super easy and is a good solid, long lasting repair. Estimated cost with tools less than $100. Step 3: Sell the camper yourself on ebay, craigslist, etc Step 4: Profit $$$

RE: Brake controller

Try calling max brakes phone number listed on their website. It's disconnected. I heard they built up all their stock and don't plan to build anymore. The OEM brake controllers must have hurt business. Max brake was owned and operated by two brothers.

RE: Brake controller

Max brake (if you can still get one). They are going out of business. Hensley or P3 hitch is the best, but like the brake controller, also the most expensive.

RE: Thank goodness for insurance

Same thing here. Also in Wisconsin.

Joined the Hensley club for $500

Spotted a Hensley Arrow complete setup on craigslist for $500 last night. I immediately emailed the seller and picked it up about two hours later for $500. Everything is in great condition and the seller was the original owner. He used it with a suburban 2500 and I want to use it with my 2011 Ram 1500. It looks like I’ll need to exchange the truck side bar as the one it came with has about an 6 or 8 inch drop. How much do these new bars cost and does anyone know what size I would need for a Ram 1500?

RE: Outside trim/molding - Is it needed?

Its the seam for a wall and front fiberglass cap. Its coming up right by the roof. You really can't see it, since its up so high.

Outside trim/molding - Is it needed?

About 1 6" section of the plastic edge trim is loose and cracked. What does it cover (ie: is this a concern for leaks?)? Do I need to fix it or can I just cut out the broken part? It looks like this: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Vinyl-Insert-Molding-Trim-Screw-Cover-RV-Boat-Camper-Travel-Trailer-1-White-75-/390513200336

RE: Removing passenger van seats.

They unbolt. Usually 6 to 8 bolts per seat. Really easy to do. You will have holes in the carpet where the brackets were.

RE: TT Values

Nada is worthless on something that old. $250o selling price is fair. You can't find a good condition 90s trailer for less than 2k.

RE: Dump Station Etiquette

Same as a boat ramp. Be fast and efficient as possible. There are always going the be those that don't give a *&%# about those waiting behind them tho... Never thought of it like this, but exactly true.

RE: boondocking - why do you do it and where?

The campsites without electricity are usually better and easier to book. I have camped for ~20 years and never booked a site without electricity. Mostly for use of the AC and ice maker.

RE: just turning around at home?????

I usually pull the TT through the campground without the wd bars. I install them at the dump station. Because....? 1. I'll have time to do it at the dump station (even if there isn't a wait) 2. Its not good to make many sharp turns with an friction sway control attached 3. Many turns=noisy hitch in a quiet campground 4. Jacking the trailer up/down helps drain the tanks
