RE: Protection from mud daubers in fridge?

After reading about concerns over reduced air flow with normal window screen I found some 1/8" mesh hardware cloth and made them myself. I spent less than $5 and have enough left over to do another RV.
If it is an RV specific part increase price 3x...

RE: Big Foot Leveling system

As tempting as it is because it makes the RV easier to crawl under - do NOT check the fluid with the jacks down.
And as always you have to be a anorexic pygmy and have elbow & knee joints that bend in the opposite direction to easily work on RV systems.

RE: Red Max Pro or Equivalent

We are into the 3rd year. We had a few problem areas that were very minor. Our front cap had a few areas that started to bubble/cracked and we just scrubbed with BKF and reapplied some RMP3 and the problem has not returned. The refrigerator vent cover did the same thing and we repaired it the same way. One small area on a decal did the same thing and was also repaired the same way. We attributed all of these to prep work and not the product (operator malfunction). They all appeared within a couple of months. The total area combined was probably less than one square foot.
Prep work, prep work, prep work.
We did a ton of reading before we did the original application. There were definitely naysayers out there. But not one posting of first hand knowledge of a problem. It was sometime pure speculation. But normally it was a persons third cousin's ex wife's boyfriend's next door neighbor's girlfriend's meter reader's brother that had a terrible time with it.

RE: Travel with guns

http://www.handgunlaw.us/ is updated regularly and you can build a map showing where your permit is legal. The listing for each state lists known "quirks" about that jurisdiction. The downside to traveling with a firearm is some jurisdictions consider Title 18 U.S.C. 926A (the "Safe Passage" act) a suggestion. But pre-emption laws in many states have fixed the problem.
Know where you are and what the rules are there.

RE: New Liquid Rubber Roof

I am pretty sure the Liquid Roof product is designed to go over the existing rubber. You might call the manufacturer since you have aluminum, it may be different.
If you do it yourself new EPDM isn't a great deal more expensive but then I haven't priced EPDM material lately. Three years ago it was only a couple hundred dollars more than the Liquid Roof.
I did use the Liquid Roof. It was pretty simple. The most time consuming part of the application was cutting in the sides where the rubber met the trim molding. As in anything like this the prep work is key.

RE: Where to hide them

It is impossible to hide chocolate from any wife. They will sniff it out like the best drug or explosive search dog on earth.
Don't believe me? Wrap the chocolate bars in several layers of sealed material, park at a chocolate factory and they will STILL find the chocolate.
The silent treatment isn't really a bad thing. But all in all remember - happy wife, happy life.

RE: Large Awning Adjustment

After having to adjust mine several times (playing where does it go) I got it in the right place then marked the roller on both ends. The only downside is I don't get to play "where does it go" anymore.

You guys are barking up the wrong tree. This is the worst case of tunnel vision I have ever witnessed! Pop-Tart guns are nothing compared to the terror that a cereal killer can bring about.

RE: Ads not false but some wording is so small

CW is no different than many large businesses. The left hand doesn't always know what the right hand is doing.
You have to realize that ads are bait to get you into a store. The other side of the coin is misleading verbiage causes bad blood even if the store agrees to honor the add. But, with a chain operation the store doesn't write the ads they just have to deal with the customers who see the ad. Secret locations for specials is really over the edge.
Ad hype happens all of the time using a phrase like "up to 50%..." - 0.00001% falls into that "up to 50%" window. So by definition it isn't false advertising.

RE: Insect / dauber screens for Atwood appliances

At the advice of a neighbor, who has used it for years with no issues at all - I bought some 1/8" mesh hardware cloth and made my own. Lowes won't have it, I had to go to a locally owned store. From a price standpoint a 36" wide cloth was $2.99 a foot. I bought two feet had had enough left over for a couple more RVs. The neighbor has had his RV for over ten years with no airflow issues. I have had the screen on mine for 2 years with no issues.
I agree that the 1/4" mesh is way to big. It would give the critters a better hand hold but that is about it.

RE: Ironing Board for Motorhome

After DW got done laughing - a lot - she asked me a question.
"You are the person who reads a laundry label that says wash & wear. And you do! So the person that has to be told that drying IS required even when it only says wash & wear is asking ME about a ironing board? And you wonder why I wish there were Garanimals in adult sizes."
But then she agreed with the towels on the dining table.

RE: Prep work for Red Max Pro Question

I know I was a bit concerned about swirls, scratches and OMGs that were appearing when we were prepping ours. But the RMP3 made them all go bye-bye.
We finally found our white scrub pads at an automotive paint shop.

RE: Amish Norcold cooling units reliability?

I have been told the Amish replacement units for the Norcold 1200 units have only been available since 2010. I am getting ready to replace my 2002 cooling unit with the Amish unit. A RV tech told me today the Amish units are not lasting. Looking for feedback from anyone who has knowledge of trouble, or no trouble, with these units and how long ago they were installed.
I can probably translate this for you. "We have something to sell you but we don't sell or install the Amish system."

RE: Windshield wipers not working

Try a new ground. When I was getting ready to replace a wiper motor I got some free advice to put a wire between the wiper motor body and a good ground. I did a test jump as suggested and all at once my wiper motor started working again. So I changed the hand held test circuit into a permanent one.

RE: DISH Network - Changing Service Location

We call and normally in less than 5 minutes it is finished. Once you finally get to a human, as with just about all businesses now. They use to just ask for your current zip code but now want an address too.
No muss, no fuss at all.

RE: Older motorhomes

The big thing is being a do it yourself type of individual. Even a new one will break the bank if you pay someone to do all the repair and preventive things. There is very few things that a typical do it yourselfer can't do on their own. Most repair places (not all) seem to throw parts at things until they work. There is rarely anything you can have go wrong that hasn't already happened to someone else and the repairs well documented on the RV forums somewhere.
Personally, I am comfortable with everything except drive train and internal engine repairs. The down side is most things require an anorexic midget contortionist to easily work on....

RE: First Aid Kit

What you need the most will be equally proportional to the distance and time it will take medical help to arrive. The more you need it the less likely you are to have it. Just like tools. One thing I have noticed is most first aid kits are for boo boos. But you can't really carry stuff for all potential problems. You need to be creative with taking care of the bigger injuries.
You're working under your RV and decide you need to raise your head to far. A two inch laceration on your head will bleed like you wouldn't believe and the 2x2s in the first aid kit won't be much help. Kotex will work wonders, way more absorbent than paper towels, . This is but one example, but just think about likely injuries and what can use that is outside the box.

RE: No Water to our shower

DW was all soaped up one day but the shower wouldn't let her rinse. I tormented her endlessly but she didn't seem to enjoy the humor. She completely ignored my suggestion of using the outside shower.
I took the shower head off and water was available so I switched it with the outside shower head. Something had run amuck inside the shower head.
Worth checking, assuming you aren't in a freeze area.
