RE: Coyote 20C Parts?

You are brave to undertake this work, but you will end up with a sturdier and better trailer, just the way it should have been made in the first place (which does not say much about the RV manufacturing industry).

RE: Prius towing a travel trailer? Yes.

Not a problem, the engine is powerful. It's going to glide silently in traffic jams.

RE: What's our next camper?

Have you checked the ROO 23 SS and 23 IKSS (has an island)? With the IKSS in particular, in addition to the extra counter space, you would have enough room for a small folding kitchen table in front of the couch. The best site that I am aware of to look at floor plans and compare models is rvwholesalers.com

RE: Michelin LTXMS2

I have owned both. Michelin quality, I like the looks of the MS2 better. x2

RE: cubic foot of wood? how big is this? damn restrictions

It's enough for one night, so it adds 8 dollars to your daily cost! Very expensive. One full cord is 128 cubic feet, so that's 1000 per cord. You might as well bring 2x6 boards cut in 16 inch length and pass them as leveling blocks. At least you'll know they are dry.

RE: HTT construction; What is good vs. not so good

The framework of the ROO (Forest River) is made of aluminium, likely square tubing.

RE: Washington I-5 catastrophe......

Why did this one collapse and not the others??? Maybe it was the last straw. Other bridges could follow.

RE: Washington I-5 catastrophe......

Looking at the pickup truck, it's a small miracle no one was more injured. The roof was pushed in exactly between the driver and passenger. As to the travel trailer, it will be interesting to see how it looks after salvaging.

RE: Washington I-5 catastrophe......

I read elsewhere that the truck got crowded into the right lane. It seems to me the driver should have taken the left lane well in advance of crossing. I know the oversize trucks in my area don't take chances and will use both lanes to get the highest clearance. In any case, if that's all it took to take down a bridge, the structure was no longer safe, and maybe it never was.

RE: washing dishes-is grease and food safe down sink drain?

Legal or not, please be responsible and don't dump your mess on to the ground. It attracts unwanted insects and critters. Imagine if all RVers did that. In terms of going all paper and plastic all the time: i use paper plates for certain hard to clean entres, but that's it. Our landfills will love you but many of us... not so much. I wholeheartedly agree. Imagine pulling into a campsite with fresh puddles of dirty, sudsy water on the edge of it. My dog would be in it immediately. (If my kids were little, they would be, too.) Bleah. Practice courtesy towards other campers and good stewardship of the great outdoors. We scrape into the garbage, then wash our dishes in a small tub and flush the dirty water down the toilet as others have recommended. Paper plates are used sparingly. x3

RE: Why idle?

Laziness. And/or diesel or gasoline are obviously still very cheap.

RE: Am I crazy to consider a 1999?

I sold with great difficulty a 2006 19ROO in 2009 for 60% of what I paid ($10,000 ownership + opportunity cost for 4 years of camping is expensive), so yeah, they depreciate like mad. Maybe people are crazier/lazier than I think and would rather put their signature at the bottom of the contract and drive home with a brand new vehicle than apply for a loan to buy used.

RE: Need dealer in Atlanta who knows Ram CTDs

It would be cheaper to buy DW a Bose sound-cancelling headset and install Firestone R4 Tech hybrid suspension and cab air-suspension.

RE: Need dealer in Atlanta who knows Ram CTDs

Nothing stopping you from getting your vehicle maintained at a Cummins authorized truck shop. Even under warranty, you're free to go to an independent garage. At a Chrysler shop it's a crapshoot, they mostly know about Neons and will get junior to change the oil on your truck and rip the air conditioning compressor wiring while undoing the oil filter. Been there.

RE: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions?

My 83 Dodge D50 was safetied in 2007 in Quebec. It was a piece of cake to get it approved. The repair you are mentioning sound like regular maintainance. When I went that route I spoke to a garage and the guy told me which place to go to. The technician at Canadian Tire gave me minimum hastle, whereas some certified garages will make you go through hoops, either because they have something against older vehicles not sold by them, or because they hope you'll get the repairs done in their shop. Once you're committed to one, I don't know if you can switch and start anew. Buyer beware.

RE: Is it safe to use normal garden hose for water??

I would feel safer using a food grade hose (white). When I smell the first water coming out the garden hose, it reminds me of the industrial chemical smell that floats in urban India. The synthetic material carried by the water might be ok or it might be toxic. The only way that would be acceptable would consist in letting water run for a long time, and even then, who knows if toxic compounds don't seep out on a continuous basis?

RE: $7000 to spend on tow vehicle, suggestions?

A man I know sold his 97 RAM CTD for $5000 two years ago. That truck was in mint condition, no rust, 200 000 km, which is just broken in for a diesel, and his only condition to the buyer was that the injection pump not be tampered with, as he never opened it even though he pulled a 5th wheel every year to Florida (in other words he did not want to see it go to a young punk that would trash it). I have a 97 like that (see profile) but it's not for sale yet ;-) So, they are certainly out there and they will still give you 10 years or more of good service. Don't be discouraged by naysayers.
