electrolosis

Anyone with aluminum and stainless body pannels (96 Safari Sahara)havea problem with electrolosis corrosion occuring on the unit and if so how might this problem be corrected. I am having a lot of this taking place along the sides between the stainless cargo doors and the aluminum side panels. Any feedback would be appreciated.

RE: magnum oil gauge sensor

I replaced most o f my magnum gauges with freightliner gauges. You can buy both gauge and sending units at the freightliner dealer. You have to change the sending unit to match the gauges you replace. The gauges fit nicely in the same opening that the magnum gauge came out of. Mine is a 96 Safari Sahara.

Logically you are probably right, but thats why we have a motorhome and if we did everything logically what fun and how adventurous would life be.

Upstate NY to LasVeags Nv

Hi all, we are planning our first trip out west in our 36'Sahara 250hp cat. We are gong to see DW's parents. I would like some suggestions on routes. I would really like the least mountainous route as possible. I will not be towing so I won't mind a few mountains. My concern is the 250 hp cat being able to make the grade. Most of my driving has been on the east coast from NY to Florida. I just had a new radiator and cac installed so overheating shouldn' be a problem. Any suggestions Thanks

RE: Right Rear Tire Overheated

Sounds to me like a brake hanging up or a wheel beaing. There would be no reason for a tire to heat up in that short of a distance. Better get it checked out if it's getting hot enough to discolor the tire

RE: Radiator

Let me just say this, don't be shocked at the price because they are expensive. I just replaced the radiator, charged air cooler, and a new frame because the old frame was rusted. All had to be maqde by my local radiator shop. Cost $5000.00 installed. Work was done on a 96 Safari Sahara 3126b cat. Good luck

RE: What did you do to your Class A MH today???

Well where do I begin. Replaced radiator and cac and all the frame work that held in the rad. Changed every fluid on the unit right down to the rear-end.Replced all pullys and belt tensioners as well as all belts and hoses. Replaced exhaust system. Replaced air conditioner pump and water pump. New gauges. Droped off at the shop April and just picked it up today. Now for the shocker, cost $10731.00. Yikes. Work was done on my 1996 Safari Sahara 3126b cat. The unit still shines like new and is a very well made unit. Best part is their are no payments. Happy motoring

RE: Power steering fluid location?

It's usually the same fluid that is used for the leveling jacks. Check the fluid level in that resivoir.

RE: questions on pulling enclosed trailer

I pull a 14' enclosed v-nose trailer behind my safari with no extensions. Never had a problem, just make sure that the trailer is as close to level as possible so that you have no wandering from side to side on the trailer. If the trailer is not level it will go down the road like a wagging tail.

RE: Radiator shops in S.E.Michigan

Just like to add a little something to this topic when buying a used coach, especially diesel. Make sure you check out the radiators and charged air coolers very carefully. These items can be very expensive to repair or replace. In my case I had to replace the radiator and cac along with the frame that was rusted and falling apart. I have a 96 safari sahara with a c7 cat. When I purchased the unit I knew the radiator wasn't in the best of shape and had the owner take $2500 off the asking price. Well come time to have the job done the sticker shock was just that "shocking". $1500 for the new radiator, $1200 for the rebuilt cac, and $500 for the new framework, plus about 12 hours labor for removal and install, all together $4500. Just a word to the wise when buying an older unit, check the condition of the cooling system because it can be a very expensive fix. I wish I had this information previous to negotiating the $2500 off asking price because I would have made that $4500. I guess I'm giving info and venting in the same post. happy motoring to all

RE: Engine Temps Monaco side radiator

I have a 96 Safari with a rear radiator 3126 cat. I,m in the process of having the radiator overhauled. I went down to the shop doing the work after they pulled out the radiator and I couldn't believe my eyes when I saw the engine side of the radiator and cac. It was completely clogged and I don,t know how it cooled at all. It looked like someone trowled the dirt and grease into the fins. The slober tube was moved back past rear bumper and I tried cleaning as best as I could but, its almost impossible toget them clean. A better design would be the answer. Something that could be cleaned easily. I,m just adding this for those of you who clean faithfully and still overheat. It,s almost impossible to get all of that dirt and grease out without getting a pressure washer to hit the sludge head on. If someone can come up with a surefire way to clean radiators on these units please let us know

New York to LasVegas via Yellowstone

I'm planning a trip this August to Yellowstone and then on to Vegas to visit the inlaws. I would like to know how you go about planning a trip such as this? How to book campgrounds and what is the best rout to take from NY. I have a 36' pusher and I won't be pulling a toad. Are rental cars available at Yellowstone so we an drive and see the sites. Any information onthis subject would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance.

Magnum gauges

I have a 96 Safari Sahara with a c7 cat on a magnum chassi. Does any one know where I can purchase new gauges for it. The oil pressure gauge works only 5% of the time as well as the tranny temp gauge. The temp gauges both read 220, but I shot the motor with infared gun and everything was normal. I think I read in other posts that these gauges were faulty. Thanks in advance

RE: Older 1980's Motorhomes

Suprised tat Safari was lsted last. I'm partial because I own one. 96 Safari Sahara with c7 cat. Very well built inside and out. For the prices that they are selling for on e-bay it's probably the best buy on the used motorhome market. JMHO

RE: Calling all truck drivers

I don't think that trucks could use 22.5 tires with one ply side walls. They would be blowing tires left and right.

RE: iced up cooling fins

Sorry about not mentioning the make and year. It's a 96 Safari Sahara. I knew that the unit didn't self defrost, I just thought that it might shut down at a certain temp. But by all the feedback I recieved already it seems that this is normal operation. I'm going to buy one of those fans that was suggested. You guys are the best. Everyone have a good day and thanks for imput.

iced up cooling fins

I'm sure this question has been raised on this forum before but I'll ask it again. We have been in central Florida since January 28th. The cooling fins on the refrigerator are fully caked in frost. The refrigerator is an older Dometic with automatic temperature controll. There is supposedly a thermometer (which I can see) attached to one of the fins that is suppose to defrost the ice on the fins. I don't know if this thermometer isn't working or is this normal when parked for a long time and the door is being opened and closed often. This is the first time that we've been away for this length of time. Thanks in advance
