RE: fueling station (pump) question

You probably do not need a new pump as the motor is running. That indicates the the wiring is okay. And the motor is the only semi-complicated thing about the pump. You have probably sheared the " key drive " that connects the motor shaft to the pump gear. It is a cheap piece of plastic that the manufacturer would say is meant to fail to protect other parts. In reality, it sells lots of pumps. But anyway, there is a reason the part would break and that is usually that the gears have swollen. But the gear kit includes a new " key drive". So - two birds with one stone. If your pump is a FPL brand it is now sold by Graco here is a link to an "Instructions- part list" for the Graco GTP10 pump that comes in several models. http://www.graco.com/content/dam/graco/tech_documents/manuals/311/311304/311304EN-F.pdf My old FPL model fp10 is now a model 260000 Graco. GRaco does not sell direct so you need a distributor -- I just "googled graco repair kit 260434" and came up with a distributor as in "empirefoam.com" I ordered a (seal) repair kit from Intech (888 920 1313) yesterday for $11. Same price that empirefoam quotes but my $11 purchase became $21 with shipping. You should order both the gear kit and the seal kit, and the shipping would probably the same for both items.

fueling station (pump) question

needing to find a seal for the motor shaft in my fueling station. I replaced the gears a couple of years ago but can't recall the brand of pump and don't want to crawl under there tonight. What is the most common pump used in these toyhaulers?

RE: Equal i zer Hitch Question

You can use the pry bar to wedge the tension bars off the bracket after removing the retainers. But, unless you have far more tension on your bars than I have ever needed, you can just pull the bars sideways by hand. BUT - have the jack raised as far as possible to prevent dropping everything too harshly. After 2 or 3 years, I don't remember ever having this situation.

RE: removing an ETERNABOND look alike

Yes, I checked an unused package of Eternabond and the adhesive does look to be grey. Also, the stuff I removed was just grey- not DARK grey like I mentioned prev. So, yes I was probably dealing with Eternabond. But, like most adhesives, the surfaces to be bonded to must be clean and there is where I suspect the problem was. The composite material must have been dirty with something like a mold release agent that prevented proper sticking. After removing the eternabond, I attempted to clean the panel. Again tried several products and not getting a real satisfactory job. I'll get it clean before applying anything. Has anyone used a product called "Water Proofing Tape". It is the "Duck" brand. I used it several years ago ( 5 or 6 ) on a metal shop roof that a tree limb had punched through during an ice storm. I pop riveted a piece of aluminum over the hole and taped the edges with this tape. It is still there and still the roof does not leak. Three years ago, I removes an 8 ft, strip of Dicor from the joint of the front cap and roof of a motorhome and replaced with this tape. No leaks in three years. I carry a roll of this stuff in the RV and am thinking of repairing this latest fiasco with it. Worst that could happen is I'd have to remove it and then order Eternabond. My reasoning is that the tape is easy to find and costs far less than Eternabond. Opinions?

RE: removing an ETERNABOND look alike

As it turns out, Brake-Kleen removes the stuff very well. Tried several things before that. The secret is to somehow get a bit of the adhesive loose and then spray the Brake-Kleen under the adhesive. When you get a flap large enough to get a hold of, then spray the cleaner on the underside of the flap and let the liquid run down to the surface - all the while gently pull up very slowly. After I learned the technique, I was able to lift probably a 6 ft. strip with no residue at all. I believe that all RV assemblers should be required to live in an rv they have helped assemble. This leak is/was in an rv I just purchased new. It looks like it has leaked from day one. Well, now I know, need to keep a watchful eye on everything.

removing an ETERNABOND look alike

So, I'm in the process of repairing a leak in my slide. Found the culprit right away. A seam "taped over" with a material that looks like Eternabond, but I've used eternabond before and this stuff doesn't look quit the same. As I recall the Eternabond adhesive is white and this stuff ( the adhesive )is dark grey. The stuff is easy enough to peel off but the adhesive stays stuck to one side of the seam. That is, it peels right off the composite roof material but leaves a nasty mess on the aluminum trim that is the other side of the seam. My question is " how to remove this stuff? some kind of solvent? Heat gun?

RE: WD hitches on trailers with aluminun frames

Sir, I went to the Bal/norco site you listed. I'm even more happy. The entire frame is steel. I checked the brochure and found "all aluminum framed , vacuum bonded construction(walls, floor, roof and interior walls) and a mention of "engineered Norco frame " BUT no mention of aluminum frame. In my defense, the trailer is low, the ground was wet and it LOOKED like an aluminum frame. I will be back under it ( inside with a creeper ) when we do the pre-delivery inspect. Yep, this thing looks to be a good thing.

RE: WD hitches on trailers with aluminun frames

Sir, that is really great to hear from an Earthbound owner. Thursday I bought the 2011 Earthbound Morrison that I mentioned above. I had checked and found that the tongue was indeed steel so that was a big relief to me. I spent an entire day in, on top of and under the thing and I am impressed. I don't pick it up till next week -- out of state. I haven't decided what hitch I need. Still thinking I don't need weight distributing, but looking for a tidy, effective sway control. Surely, you didn't need those airbags on a 2500 Dodge with your Earthbound?!

RE: WD hitches on trailers with aluminun frames

JBarca -- Earthbound is now out of business - so no help there. The trailer is at a dealership and I'm a bit tight with a nickel so I doubt this will develop into any concern. Just having concerns about this possible problem makes a purchase less likely. Heck, my toyhauler is really looking nice.

RE: WD hitches on trailers with aluminun frames

Sure are. The Propride(tm) is one of many and this is not a promotion for one, just know about them. Uh, no. A $2300 hitch is not a reasonable consideration. If that were the only alternative I'll just by pass the trailer and keep towing the toyhauler with my Equalizer -- but thanks for the info. passin thru

RE: WD hitches on trailers with aluminun frames

That trailer is listed as less than 5000 lbs dry weight and a tongue weight of just over 600 lbs. So I'm thinking that a WD hitch might not be needed if I were to haul the thing with a 3/4 Dodge. But I do want some form of sway control. My current hitch is a Equalizer brand of hitch and the "spring bars" are huge, like 1 1/2 inch square. I'm concerned that the bars might be stronger than the alum. tongue and bend the tongue if I got the truck or trailer into some 'attitude' other than pretty flat/level. Also, it looks to me that hitch would only function as a sway control when the 'spring bars' are under some amount of tension. I like this particular type of hitch as the weight and sway control work together. Not a fan of the sliding friction controls that mount parallel to the tongue --- any good alternatives out there?

WD hitches on trailers with aluminun frames

Ran across an interesting 30ft. travel trailer recently. It is an unsold 2011 EARTHBOUND bumper pull. The frame ( and tongue )is all aluminum. I'm wondering about the effects that a weight distributing hitch might have on this. Any one have experience in this situation?

RE: Brake Controller Showing Short in the System

you might need to get your terminology straight -- a "SHORT" usually means a blown fuse and then no current flow. An "OPEN" would be indicated by no current flow. so, a "short" will usually quickly cause an "open". if the problem seems to be intermittent, then a fuse is not blown so you are probably dealing with an intermittent open.

RE: Hazy Skylights

ever skylight I've ever had, the plastic dome was easily replaced without having to do anything with the rest of the skylight. replacement domes are cheap and the price is inexpensive. PS -- I tried the "paint the plastic dome " to darken for better sleeping. Other poster is right. Very splotchy took many coats to look decent.
