RE: no sewer or dump station
Got to add this....This TOPIC WAS ABOUT BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE...:)
Actually the original poster was talking about camping on their families land, no mention of the middle of nowhere, I believe others addressed that subject. They were new and just wanted opinions. I believe all their questions were answered somewhere in this discussion. :)
I believe that counts for being in the middle of nowhere, example,,No one else will be using the spot for sometime.
RE: Dodge Boys....
My truck is the only thing I have around here that hasn't given me problems. Last week it was my wife's car, and my laptop, today my AC went out on my home, last month my riding mower ignition, and I almost forgot my TV in the kids room too. Tonight a storm should be coming thru, probably the roof will fly off, or a tree will fall on my truck, that sounds about right.
your such a positive person....:B
RE: no sewer or dump station
wildlife lives "in the middle of nowhere",
And I bet that "wildlife" poops at a dump station!:B
I hate it when the Sloths line up to dump,,,they're so freaking slow.
RE: no sewer or dump station
Buldaawg,
You make some interesting and maybe valid points.
bama
its all based on experiences, thats all Im not trying to say that people should just dump anywhere in the woods, just use common sense. Its funny how folks talk about grey though... If your using detergents or shampoos that are not enviro friendly, then dont dump, if you are using enviro friendly soaps, what the heck is going to hurt the environment,. I guess a huge pile of my skin cells is going to cause some problems somewhere... or maybe that piece of green bean that slipped past the strainer... Got to add this....This TOPIC WAS ABOUT BEING IN THE MIDDLE OF NOWHERE...:)
RE: no sewer or dump station
Im going to play devils advocate so calm down:
Grew up on a pretty large farm, between the cows and hogs pooping everywhere and non stop, And all of our grey water going to the front yard, granted our front yard was about a acre, cant figure out how I or my siblings made it out alive....Im really not sure how in the big picture, human poop in the middle of nowhere is going to hurt anyone... So dont poop in the RV, go outside like folks did for thousands of years and find a nice tree,.. most of us dont have a problem peeing behind that tree. I know what your saying, thats not 30 gallons...yep, and that poop behind the tree isnt diluted with water either.
Yep, contrary to popular belief, farms are pretty nasty places. Farms have had to clean up their acts too, just like industry. Just because that's that way it was 'down on the farm' back in the 'good old days' doesn't make it right. If the good ol' days were that good, then I'd suggest selling your TVs & computers, the big house in the 'burbs, your late model high-tech car, that modern pickup & TT and get yourself and old 1954 pickup with a 14' Shasta, load the galley with Spam and enjoy.
Either you're a part of the problem or a part of the solution. We try to be a part of the solution. We're active in water quality monitoring on several levels--including the creeks and ditches near both dairy farms and farms where crops are grown. In the process of doing that, we've learned a lot about how common practices lead to polluted surface water, polluted ground water, shellfish closures, beach closures, etc.
Bottom line - if you have the ability to pack the FW and food in, you have the ability to pack out the gray water and poop and dump it properly.
Your points are based on the mega farms, a far cry from what was the normal many years ago.. Our farm and my uncles farm had wells that we inspected at the local level run by the state every year, After nearly 100 years of none stop farming with nearly every animal you can imagine we never had one problem with our wells. What did effect are wells was Mercury that was dumped near Atlanta in the 70's./ I was playing the Bad guy from the start on this topic just to find out how many people really though that Poop dumped in the middle of no where (buried mind you)would somehow cause the planet to become untilted. I have no argument for those who dump where people are in constant use of the grounds. that would be plain stupid. This topic was about the MIDDLE OF NOWHERE. I would bet that about half of the folks who say you shouldnt do this, were not raised in rural areas and have no idea about perk tests or septic systems.. the earth is the best filter going so long as its not abused.
RE: no sewer or dump station
It is all organic is it not? unless your an alien..
you can tell not many folks have been around farms
I have stayed at farms, and we just dug a pit and covered with dirt when needed

That was my point, I understand we dont want people just dumping 30 gallons of poop where others will camp, but out in the middle of nowhere dig a hole and take care of it...
RE: Dodge Boys....
I love my 2007 Dodge Ram 1500, but hate my 2007 Chrysler Sebring. The Sebring now has 18,000 miles and is ready for it's third (3rd) set of brakes.
Slow down up there in New York and stop that stoplight to stoplight drag racing.:B

Speaking of lakes, ya'll ever notice the thousands of ducks and other varmits that poop there, my god the geese must be doing a real number on the north American lakes...Dang Canadian "geese" never want to leave anymore..
And do you by any chance remember what the Sears Roebuck catalog was used for? I do.;)
Yes sir, that was my daddy's uncle on the other farm accros the road,,,still had a outhouse in 84.. With the fresh water well about 50 yards away....forgot to mention "that DA&^ dog" as mother used to call it, pooping right in front of the porch

RE: Jacking up a Fifth wheel ??
Ive jacked mine for many years right under the axle tube under the spring shackels. Never had an issue. Trailers go through hell just going down the road everyday.
RE: Veteran's Day
Sleepy
Thank you for your service, and many, many thanks to your Grandson/s.
I served USN 81 to 91
Working with the F-22 now in the Civ World..
RE: Windows 7
Info on the installation process is all over the web in tech sites.. Not sure you'll want the hassle of removing XP though. Its been a good OS for me...
RE: 2 Motorhomes on fire at Walmart (video)
Maybe a lobster got out and decided to cook him... Or maybe that was Walmarts way of clearing out some parking space..
RE: Toilet paper dissolving in black tank
A real camper uses a leaf or two. They are natural occuring biodegradeable and free. The big leaf Maple in Washington works well.
Gotta be careful with the poison oak leaves though... pretty crappy subject here...
RE: You ever stay in a Walmart parking lot?
I don't think I will be doing that again any time soon. Way to much nose, and inconsiderate people.
What were people doing to be inconsiderate?
That's great, your not paying for a spot, and calling the folks working there inconsiderate...You must be making a joke with that one...right....?
