RE: Comparing maps and GPS etc.

We just bought a Nuvi 1350 and downloaded the Mexico maps to it before we left Canada. Can't wait to get to Mexico to try it out. Actually, can't wait to get to Mexico anyway. Last year we used Church's and Guia Roji. This year it's Church's, Guia Roji and Garmin. I'll be back to you after mid December with my thoughts.

RE: A message from Mike Schneider, CEO, Affinity

Thanks Mike
Almost every day, for the last couple of years, I have jumped on the Class A and the Mexico forums and spent at least a few minutes, maybe longer. I appreciate the opportunity to communicate with so many fellow RVers.
I work in the RV industry and recognise the challenges you are facing. Keep up the good work.Or as us Canadians would say "keep your stick on the ice"

RE: Guidance on used RV to tow 10,000 race car trailer

Ben
Most gas coaches, including the one you are looking at, are RATED to pull 4,000 lbs. You need to get into a pusher with about a 3000 series Allison transmission and air brakes to find one rated to pull 10. Are people pulling more than their coaches are rated for? Yes.

RE: Winni vs. Damon

My vote would be Winnebago. While the Damon may be finished nicer I think the Winnebago is a better quality coach.

RE: Both furances out - it's COLD!!!

I'm betting your propane is freezing at the regulator. I would get an LP dealer to shoot a little alcohol in there.

HP & Torque Improvement for Cat 3126

I've got a 330 Cat in our 2002 Dutch Star motorhome. Anything I can do to squeeze a bit more hp and torque out of it?

RE: Used MH brands to look at.

I have been in the RV industry since 1978 and we currently full time in our NewMar. If I was shopping for a newer one I would look at (in no particular order) Monaco, Winnebago, Tiffin, Newmar or Canadian built Triple E, all good quality builders.

Ask and Ye shall receive. I opened the mailbox yesterday and there it was. Bonus...The motor home on the cover looks just like ours.

RE: How Long Should It Last?

You guys are trying to put words in my mouth. I said Gas or Diesel, either way, move up from entry level. Buy something designed for more permanent use. Can you live in entry level? Of course you can. I'm saying your money is better spent buying better quality used than entry level new. And that's all I said. Larry

I haven't been on it either but we have some friends that did. They loved it. The pictures I saw reminded me of driving your Coquahalla

RE: How Long Should It Last?

Chris I sell RV's for a living and we live in our coach full time. We also love to travel Mexico, so I'm aware of your conitions down there. From my point of view the answer is "Not Long". I think though that if you took that same amount of money and bought a higher end used coach, gas or diesel, it would last as long as you wanted it to. At 120,000 you are buying entry level, designed for weekends and short holidays. You don't want to be fixing things replacing carpet, fabrics etc all the time. There are a lot better things to do in retirement, like happy hour for instance. PM me if you want. Larry

RE: Damon Astoria or Newmar Ventana

Newmar wins again in my book. If you want quality and resale you gotta go with someone like Newmar, Tiffin, Winnebago or Monaco. At least that's the way I see it.

RE: Another FM-T question

When we were on our way into Mexico last fall there was a couple at the border trying very hard to get a new permit for a trailer that was in a Mexican park.
it wasn't happening, no matter how polite they were or later how loud he yelled or how hard she cried.

Bilmo is right on. Our Star Choice was still working south of Cancun. Just barely working, but we only had the small Star Choice dish. Our neighbors with a bigger Star Choice dish got all the channels.
