RE: GPS

Look at the Garmin NUVI 50LM. It's bright, has big screen, and easy to use. I bought a 2nd one for the car.

RE: Suggestions for maiden voyage starting in Western Iowa

Le claire, Iowa is at the intersection of I80 and th Miss. River. It has a very neat downtown with interesting shops and eateries. Riverboat museum, Buffalo Bill museum, and the American Pickers shop too. Camping is available nearby just across the bridge at a Rock Islsnd County park in Hampton, Il and a Corp of Engineers park there as well, both are on ILL. Rt 84 and only a mile apart. The CGs are about 1.5 miles from the I80 exit #1.

RE: Wineguard Road Trip SD

Don't take this wrong, but are there trees in the view of the dish? I have that in my things to check, after spending an hour one time, trying without sucess. Part of the learning curve.
Edit to add comment: Running a new cable is a good idea. Make sure the F connectors are in good shape. Good luck.

RE: Can someone with a Jensen 975 answer a question

With mine, Aux one is from my TV and aux 2 is for the 3.5mm input on the face panel. I switch back and forth with the front output for either my XM Onyx or the Ipod. I think there is an extra set of inputs on the back of the radio for a more permenant connection from another device. Look up the unit on Jensen's site for the wiring diagram. As mentioned earlier, just toggle by repeat pushing the aux button.

RE: Wineguard Road Trip SD

It sounds like the dish is not communicating with the receiver. Try a new cable direct from the receiver to the dish. Try to use a cable with compression F connectors.

RE: DVR reboots itself...

Thank you.
Why is it rebooting while I'm trying to aim the dish?
Its DTV's way of making sure the receiver is used with a subscription. The main functionallity of the service was for residential use, with a full time connection. RVs are just secondary.

RE: DVR reboots itself...

I have had one similar event and found that DTV DVRs are programmed to not allow recorded viewing if the receive is not fully connected and receiving programing. This may be because of software in the receiver not being current.
When you are connected with a good and stable signal, go into menu and select restart. Then select the dash key to confirm restart, wait for the first blue screen, then quickly enter 0-2-4-6-8. The receive will then begin to look for new software. Do not unplug the receiver while the downlosd and reboot is in progress. There will be aprogress bar and afterwards. you will have the latest software. It could also be that this problem you are having is/or may be an effort to stop use of the recorder without subscriptions. There are several models and manufacturers of DTV redeivers, and it could be that some won't play recording due to slight differences.

RE: Surge protector recommendations

I have a Progressive Ind. HW-30C. I self installed the hard wired unit and the remote display. The product is well made and I particularlly like that 3 parameters are monitored and controlled, Volts, hertz and amps plus of course having surge protection. I personally recommend Progressive Ind.

I have the Carryout that I use on the Winegard tri-pod stand. I am getting the ladder mount and have 2 options of use. Winegard really has a great product in the Carryout, in my opinion.

RE: levleing jack light on

Sometimes, a low fluid reservor can cause the light to come on and off or stay on. Retract the jack and check the fluid in the reservor. If you need to add, be sure to check for what fluid is required.

RE: Three TV Direct TV setup help

If the 3rd TV is newer and has HDMI inputs, you can make it a slave to any other sat box by using the new wireless HDMI transmitter and receiver. You feed the transmitter from an HDMI source and the receiver plugs into the 3rd set. Need power for the TX and Rcvr. I use one in my home. Got it at Monoprice. Or you could get a HDMI powered splitter and run a HDMI cable to the 3rd TV, and use a RF remote to change channels. I did the latter on my Vista for the outside TV.

RE: Ilinois Interstate

The new 80-94 road finished a few years ago is so much better than before. Unless you pick Friday after 2:00PM, the trip is no worse that any other metro area. I'd go for it so you can see, and then use the route in the future. The one toll both is an easy one with far right lanes for trucks etc. Get in the center lane and go with the flow. Its not that bad.

RE: Winegard vs King-Dome Satellite for Direct-TV

Once again I thank all of you sharing your opinions and experiences. After discussion with the bride, and reading all of the replies, we have decided to go with the Traveler. Yes, more expensive, but seems to me to be less troublesome than any dome. Plus it is only 10 inches tall when in the travel position. Also, we have spent more than we had planned to spend on a new RV, but within our budget and got what we wanted. Won't take short cuts with any additional options either. Again, Thank you for your input.
If you're buying a new Trav'ler make sure you get the newly released SWM model. It is fully backwards compatible with all current DirecTV receivers. Don't let any dealer tell you otherwise; there are lots of dealers out there with inventories of the 3005 model who will claim the new one is not compatible with older receivers. It's not that you necessarily need SWM today, but in a couple of years when you replace whatever receiver you have it is likely the new one will be SWM-only.
If a dealer insists on selling you the 3005 model, ask if he will install the SWM-upgrade for free. Once a 3005 is upgraded it is essentially the same as the new SWM model.
X2 in a big way! SWM means single wire miltiswitch. This enables a DVR to view and record with only one cable.... and a much easier system to manage. I have it in my coach and I run 2 DVRs off of one wire.

RE: Winegard vs King-Dome Satellite for Direct-TV

There is NO dome satellite dish that will receive Directv HD. Dome sare great for fast setup and will receive SD programming from DirecTv. If you are set on a dome, you may want to consider a portable one to be able to avoid trees etc.

RE: EMS & surge guards?

I installed PI HW30C last night. The install was uncomplicated. I installed in front of the transfer switch althought there are other options. This model is more that a surge protector. The monitor/computer checks the line voltage for Hz, amps, and voltage and will shut off power when any peramiture rises or drops below programed values. It dispalys error codes too for diagnosing faults. What I like is the 13 ft data cable that enabled me to mount the monitor dispaly in my coach. I believe it is rated at 1750 joules. There is a jumper that allows for a 15 or 128 second delay when pluffing in. So far, I found the quality excellent, and instruction good as well. I beleive tha tsome sort of device is a necessity with all the electronics in todays MHs.

RE: Winnebago Vista/Itasca Sunstar 30T

I have a Vista 30T. There are F53 chassis issues but they are not confined to the shorter WB models alone. Most all Ford owners are aware and have upgraded their chassises with track bars, steering stabilizers or swaybars. I really enjoy my MH's floorplan and find the driveability very acceptable. I have added suspension upgrades as of late. Many have just changed the sway bars link bots position. The ride, quietness, performance are all fine in my opinion. I would suspect that other considerations like price, floorplan, might be more important. I'd buy the model that you feel most confortable with overall.
