RE: Route Thru Chicago Northbound

Haha Bass Pro doesn't have anything I need at the moment as we went there in Nashville. But since we were off the freeway the DW decided she wanted some scratch off lottery tickets .............yep, I should have stayed on the interstate.

RE: Route Thru Chicago Northbound

Update: Well we went up 94 this morning (Sat.) and had no issues other than a momentary slowdown at the core area for a quarter mile. Not too stressful at all and not any worse than Atlanta or Seattle. We did get off at Grand Ave which saved about 5 bucks in tolls which made us feel like we got away with something :-)

CRV speed limit while towing

On our '08 CRV AWD the book says to not tow over 65 mph. So what happens if you tow at 66? I have not seen any explanation of the specific reason that Honda limits the tow speed to 65. Does anyone know actual consequences of higher speeds? We tow at speeds around 60 plus or minus 2-3 mph, but on downhill runs the speed can creep into the 65-66 range while in cruise control on shorter downhills. Anything long I will gear down for more severe hills. Curious minds want to know please.

Slide lock quit on 36G Journey

This morning when we were to depart for Nashville, the slide lock would not operate. We retracted the slide and went on our way, but with a watchful eye on the slide. No issues other that it won't operate at all. Fuse is okay. I don't actually know where this mechanism is located. Any advice. This is a HWH hydraulic system I believe. Are we taking a significant chance of any problem due to running without the lock engaged?

RE: Route Thru Chicago Northbound

OP here, wow, great advice from all. We have family in Trevor area, on 304th, so the 173 sounds the best turnoff the main hwys. We've driven that in a rental car several years ago, but not in our DP, so the advice is greatly appreciated. It looks like we will be coming up that way on a Saturday or even Sunday, so the main freeway north (non toll) might work out okay. This is likely to happen next weekend as we're in south Charlotte at Carowinds right now, leaving this morning to migrate northwesterly. Safe travels all. Thanks for all the worthwhile advice.

RE: Route Thru Chicago Northbound

Thanks for the quick replies. We may just do as suggested and avoid the central core area and go around, depending on our timing when we get closer. Thanks again for the help.

Route Thru Chicago Northbound

We're looking to head up Illinois and need advice on best route thru Chicago going north. We'll be coming from Indianapolis most likely and looking to go to Trevor WI near Antioch IL.
We have a 36 DP with toad and timing will be either Friday or Saturday. How expensive are the turnpikes in and around Chicago?

RE: Charlotte to Chattanooga

Since the better half wants to visit Asheville, it most likely will be the I40/75 route. We're running a 36 DP with Toad so running the gorge won't be much of an issue. Thanks for the alternatives folks. We've already been thru Atlanta so we would prefer to avoid that route, once is enough.

We're headed from Charlotte to Chattanooga and would like best/easiest route. Thinking of going thru Asheville on the way. Is I-40/75 the best from there ?

RE: Gas Mileage - Again...

We just made a 3500 mile cross country trip from Portland OR to Charlotte NC via I5, 10 to Mesa and 40 cross the midwest, dropping to Atlanta and then to Charlotte. So covered many types of country. We averaged 8.3 for our trip in our 36 DP with CRV toad, 350 C7 Cat. I'm satisfied with that and hope it continues that way.

RE: RV Parks North & East of Atlanta

We stayed at the KOA in Anderson SC for a night last week. Close to the 85 with fuel at the exit 14. Not bad for just a night. Price was mid $30 which I thought was a bit over what I felt it was worth, but there isn't a whole lot of choice in the area.

RE: Cat C-7 temp level

Thank you all for the replies. I will check out the monitor more closely to check actual readings. I have not used it to speak of since we bought this coach. Back to the books......

Cat C-7 temp level

Since I am not the original owner I have no idea of where the temp should show on the gauge. We just ran 3500 miles from Portland OR to Charlotte NC and the engine stayed right at 1/8th+ inch to the right of middle virtually the entire trip. This is on a F/L chassis, 36G Journey, 2007 model year. Can anyone give me any comparisons on their C-7's ? Also, I used just 1 quart of oil for the entire trip, which I thought was very good in my mind.

RE: Refrigerator coil died. Questions

Bud, the 1210 is on sale at PPL for $2988 currently. Still, at that price, it makes some sense to convert to the RR and be money ahead (and no fire possibility).

RE: Change from 255/80/22.5 Michelins

OP here: I checked several brands of tires/sizes and decided on the Toyo 265/75/22.5. Readily available thru our local Les Schwabe Tire Center at a savings of roughly $800 under the Michelins. Numerous postings of other satisfied Toyo customers made the decision easier also. I'm happy with the results. No mod's necessary in the change as the rpm's are virtually identical from the OEM Michelin 255s. Thank you all for your advice/replies.

RE: Protecting your dinghy while towing it

We just returned from a 4 day clam digging trip to Ocean Park WA. The weather was rainy and windy. Our CRV was covered with 'stuff' from one end to the other, due to all the small gravel bits and sand on the formerly frosty roads. Our MH is a 36 Journey DP. Now I'm looking at possible protection during towing to prevent the deluge of road debris. Camping World has the Guardian (plastic?) hard type but I don't feel it would be adequate. Any help on suggestions and where to buy?

Powerline 2004 EMS question

When I plugged the 36 Journey into 50 amp receptacle, the EMS monitor did not register the 50 amp rating, only the 30 amp. Any load we needed worked fine, but we never loaded the shorepower to over 29 amps at one time. Any idea as to what may be a problem?

RE: Tire balance with beads, powder or weights?

Well, my final decision on my tires was to use the weights on the aluminum rims. Like was mentioned in a earlier reply, I will do this first and, if needing further balance later if weights disappear, will then use beads as a means of balance. Had the tires installed today and they feel smooth as silk in the short distance to home. Thank you for all your replies and advice; they were much appreciated.
