RE: Trailer Covers

Do a search for "cover" -there are several recent threads. I bought cheapo "Excursion" Brand cover, and wish I had gone for better quality.....

RE: Reese Pro Series SC

We really like our Pro Series SC - it is very easy to hook up and unhook, and seems to dampen sway and distribute the weight properly. We have a full size conversion van, and I think they use pretty "soft" springs in the rear - at least compared to a pick up. We added some AirLift bags to fine tune the leveling depending on how the tow vehicle is loaded. All in all, everything works great. Our maximum towed weight is about 6500 pounds ...

RE: length of average loan

I think 10 or 12 years for a late model trailer, or up to 15 years for brand new is pretty common, but I agree with Crickeydog that 5 or 6 years is a better financial decision ....

RE: east coast camping

Come even further south - come straight down I-81 and the other interstates to Philadelphia. There are tons of campgrounds in Cape May County at the southern tip of New Jersey. If you want to get even further south, there are beachside state and federal campgrounds in Delaware and Maryland ...

Pittsburgh, PA - northwest side near I-79/22-30interchange

Does anyone know of any campgrounds, parks, or other places where we could stay in our 30 ft travel trailer over the July 4, 2010 weekend near Rosslyn Farms, PA? (on the west side of Pittsburgh, where I-79 intersects US Rt. 22-30 - Penn-Lincoln Parkway) My grade school is having their 100th Anniversary, and it sounds like a good time to meet old (and I mean old!) friends.

RE: 6 ga wire

You will find red and black all over the place. If you really need white, try a place that sells aircraft supplies - like at your local airport or www.skygeek.com

RE: What to set acumulator tank pressure to?

I think you will find that you want it set significantly lower than that. We have one of the small one liter tanks sold for marine and RV use, and it is set around 10 psi. At this pressure, it helps dampen the pulsation and noise of the pump, and keeps the pump from even coming on if you need a little water for something. When you need more water - like for a shower - the pump kicks on, and you run with full pump output pressure. I would start low to minimize pump starts, then if you find you aren't getting enough pressure before the pump kicks on, increase it.

RE: North Jersey to Key West. October 22

We're right near Cape May, and you need at least two weeks to do South Florida. In February, we are doing two nights south, five nights in the Keys, three nights with family in the Stuart area, five nights in the Sarasota area, then two nights home. The two days south and north will be have to be long 400 mile days, but the other trips are only around 200 miles each. Meandering up the east coast is fun, but not in February!

RE: Down Hill Towing w/Gas Engines

Plan ahead. Get into the lower gear at the top of the hill, well before you start down the slope. If you get rolling too fast, it is much harder to get most transmissions to down shift. Depending on your set up, you may also be able to use your brake control to manually apply the trailer brakes only as needed to keep things under control.

RE: Nice campgrounds on Jekyll Island, GA

The biggest, and as far as I know only, campground actually on Jekyll Island is the Jekyll Island Campground at the north end of the island. We stayed there in late February for only one night as we were passing through, but it was pretty nice. Heavily wooded with mature trees, it should be comfortable in the summer. Because of all the trees, some of the sites have odd angles to get in and out, but they are fair sized, and you are not too close to neighbors. It looked like maybe one half or more of the sites are seasonal rentals. Remember to bring what you need onto the island, as you pay a "parking fee" (toll) to get on to the island each time, and food and commodity shopping on the island is limited and expensive. You will need to drive or bike from the campground to just about anywhere - beach, shopping, restaurants, etc. The beach is by far the biggest attraction, but there is lots of other interesting stuff .... mostly nature and history related - it is not a honky-tonk beach like Myrtle Beach ... but there is water park and miniature golf.

RE: Purchased Evergreen Ever-Lite

The local dealer had one parked out front, and I looked at it very carefully. It looks like a beautifully built unit. I like the materials and construction technique. Since we have an ultralite (Jayco Jayfeather) I am pretty familiar with the concept of lightweights and some of the compromises most manufacturers are faced with, and the Everlite has to up there with the best of them. The sticker price was pretty well up there, but I am sure the selling price is less than that. My only complaint would be the same as on my trailer - 14" tires on a 6500 lb trailer, and the sewer outlet is very low to the ground ....

RE: RV Lot Layout/Design?

First thing to determine is whether or not local zoning permits that type of use. I am way on the other side of the country, but you would be hard pressed to find an area around here where a lot that side could be "permanently" set up for an RV unless it was in some kind of park or development dedicated to that kind of land use ... At any rate, the placement of the well and septic are usually dictated by health department regulations, and you have to work the other stuff around those ...
