RE: Tell me why we shouldn't...

BUY USED! Yes, it may need repairs, but rvs are NOT like cars-even new ones more often than not need repairs. They depreciate like crazy, too. Start with one you can buy outright, or close to, and if you are as nuts about it as lots of us are, you can trade the older one in and upgrade, or sell the older one. Especially these days, a one or two year old rv can be had for a steal. I bought a 2 year old motorhome for about 1/2 what it was really worth. The guy wanted out from under the payments. This past summer, @ 4years old, it needed a lot of repairs, but I'm still under what it is worth. Besides, you can enjoy it more when you don't have to worry about the payments ;-)

RE: RV Parks Charging for Cats?

Cats DO attack people even when they are not sick. (example: House arrest for attack cat) Do you invite others into your rig? If so, you have exposed the park owner to liability from your cat's actions while on their premises (in your rig). A cat burying their scat is no different than a dog relieving itself in the bushes. Where it is left is irrelevant; it was left on the property. I think cat owners, just like ALL dog owners, need to come to grips with the fact that the rules DO apply to them and their pets (not just everyone else). A cat is a pet; if there are pet rules they apply to cats just like other pets. If the park owner/management chooses not to apply their rules to inside cats that is their choice; it is not the choice of park guests.I have no problem with rules beign applied to cats. Since you asked, yes, others come into my rig and the cats hide. If dogs WOULD relieve themselves in the bushes, not on other's campsites, but they aren't choosey.I've never had to shovel cat poop off my campsite, can't say the same for dogs. My cats stay indoors. Unless on a leash I think cats should be kept indoors. For that matter, I have never in 54 years seen a cat take a dump in the outdoors-they tend to hide. Buried out of the way stuff is a lot different than the steaming pile next to my picnic table. Sorry you don't see the difference.

RE: JUNK!

I guess it's going to take a lawsuit against one of these oem suppliers to get anything done. Hopefully nobody gets hurt or killed before then. I bought a 2 year old class c mh that came with Michelin LTX tires. They were already starting to crack then, with less than 5k miles on them.. I just replaced all six because they were starting to seperate where the tread met the shoulder-a little over 10k miles, and 2 years later. Michelin knows they are junk, they offer to give you a discount on replacements as long as they are the same tire. Do a search in the forums, I am not the only person that has had trouble with these tires. Unlike a lot of folks though, I saw no reason to put more junky tires on my coach, just like what I had, discount or no. If you have a blowout and are lucky enough to not wreck, the damage done by the tire to the rv is NOT COVERED by the tire warranty. I no longer buy Michelins, I bought made in America-made in 009 Cooper SRMIIs. I've had Coopers on trucks before, never a problem. Not all Coopers are built in America anymore, some medium and heavy truck tires are also made in China.

RE: RV Parks Charging for Cats?

I think the likelihood of a dog being litter box trained is exponentially less than a cat owner that would let their cat wander to do their "duty". Cats don't attack people unless they are rabid either.Cats also bury their waste, unlike dogs. Cats don't bark and disturb the neighbors like dogs. Cats and dogs are different, so applying the same rules would be inaccurate and so,unfair. I have never seen a cat owner let their animal out to run unattended since I started fulltiming in 1996. Lots of dog owners have told me "MY dog is under voice control, he doesn't need a leash". I've been bitten twice by unattended, unleashed dogs. I carry a nightstick these days, won't happen again.

RE: Pressure Cooker necessary?

I have never had any luck with pressure cookers,(always blow them up) but my mom made fabulous food with one. I make everything she did, except with a slow cooker, and it's always good. Maybe not as good as mom's, but then what ever is? ;-)

RE: Staying busy

Seriously? By the time I do my daily chores, it's mid morning. Get out, ride the bike, get on the beach, read a little, maybe hit the grocery, get back home in time to make dinner, wash dishes, take out the trash, read emails, have a nightcap and hit the sack. I have to make an effort to find time during any given day to do nothing,to get bored. Don't worry too much about not having anything to do! Before I retired I thought I might get bored too, but I'm so busy now I wonder how I had a life at all when I worked. Seems lots of parks have extended stay folks that can tell you about the local stuff-lots of cable tv stations have a local access/chamber of commerce type channel too. Touristy areas will have a welcome center with brochures and advice. Above all, relax-fulltiming doesn't have to be like vacations when you worked, as in cramming so much in before you have to get back. Enjoy the ability to do everything, or nothing at all. Monday mornings are someone else's problem now!

RE: Nick has a violent encounter...

Looks like his training kicked in - I agree on the cool head, which is more than I can say for how I would have reacted in similar circumstances. Glad they're ok. Anotehr reason we don't like the idea of overnighting in parking lots instead of a campground. My thought exactly.

RE: B+ motorhomes

Is that even legal? As opposed to the person overtaking you doing 85 in a construction zone? It's a lawless jungle out there on the interstate and we are the slow moving wilderbeasts. Sometimes I wish I could deploy spike strips like they do on TRU TV.:B I absolutely agree that we are under assault out there. That said, I bought a high dollar detector after getting a traffic ticket three years ago (in 4 days it falls off my otherwise blemish free record) for doing 49 mph on a rural 45 mph two lane. Ridiculous-but end of the year/month, maybe trooper X had a goal to meet. I bought the only detector-at the time-that was invisible to police detectors. Very happy with the detector, worth every penny. I worry that anyone would want to battle with possibly the FCC versus a simple traffic ticket. In today's litigious society, I'd be wary of talking about or telling someone else how to construct or use a radio device that transmits on law enforcement frequencys. Doing it is one thing, but going public and encouraging others seems risky-I'm just sayin!;) I'd like a pair of heat seeking missiles under my bumpers, myself!

RE: Does an athlete endorsement influence what you buy?

Mandrake has it right! ;-) Haha! seriously though, I might NOT buy something endorsed by a celebrity a'la Michael Vick, but Tiger Woods doesn't know squat about cars or trucks, so just because HE says buy a Buick, well, driving an Escalade when I'm sure Buick provided him with the Buick to drive..bet he loses the Buick deal now-not because of the bimbo eruption but because he pimps Buicks but takes home the Caddy...shows all his taste is in his mouth. I wouldn't be caught dead in the Buick suv or the Escalade-I don't even own a velevt suit!,but that new LaCrosse is sharp.......

RE: RV Parks Charging for Cats?

If someone tried to charge me extra for my indoor only spoiled cats (they don't even drink tap water, they drink distilled), I'd keep right on rolling. Nobody but me EVER cleans up after them, and they don't bark or bite-any park that wants to charge for a cat they'll never even see, well, those are not the kind of folks that need any of my money!

RE: Need some quick alternatives

Amen! Hallelujah! Last resort, it IS better than being put down or left outdoors. This is why I don't outright condemn those that have it done. As for me,I'm retired so I have the time to work with my cats. I think they are worth the effort to train, so for me, I won't declaw them. Call me judgemental, or other names,if you like, but for for me, declawing a cat because it's more convenient for the owner rather than investing the time to teach a cat what is ok to scratch and what is not is selfish, and lazy. If clipping a cat's claws is too scary, maybe you should invest in a fish tank. Leather gloves aren't as expensive as surgery, and the cat will eventually give in.

RE: What's YOUR favoriite crock pot recipe?

1lb or two stew beef, onion, carrots, celery,a beef bouillon cube,a dash of worcestershire sauce,a bay leaf, a cubed potato and a couple cans of tomato soup-no water. Mushrooms and peas the last couple hours on low. Mom did this in the pressure cooker, I blow 'em up all the time that way,(!)so I do it in the crock pot instead. Mom would approve...

RE: Need some quick alternatives

I despise declawing, did it once many years ago to a cat that was tearing up my furniture while I was at work. NEVER NEVER again. I can't begin to tell you the guilt I felt watching her going through recovery. Both of my cats today are fully armed. They didn't like the clipping-especially my little girl, she was a feral I adopted-but after they figured out that I was going to clip them no matter how hard they tried to get away, or hiss, or snap, they eventually gave in. They just watch the process now, but they expect their treat of poached chicken when I'm done. I understand that the laser is not as painful as the old amputation method. Still awful. I think they can be trained if you are willing to invest the time and effort. Being sure to have them spayed/neutered early on is also helpful.

I hope you are as happy with yours as I am with mine! I have the 225-75-16s all around on mine-that was the size the chassis came with.

RE: Forest River Product

2005 Lexington 283 GTS. Not happy, the only things I've not had to replace so far (probably cursing myself) are the refrigerator and the furnace. The Ford chassis has been flawless, though. I spent a bit over 6K this last summer on repairs. It still needs to have the two back HWH levellers rebuilt or replaced. This coach has a touch over 10k miles on it. There is a leak around the dinette slide, and no-one, myself included has been able to find its origin. Leaks whether the slide is out or not. Guess I bought the lemon.

RE: Replacement window shades

skipnchar is right! Not sure which direction I'll take just yet, but keeping these pita day night shades isn't the one. Drapes most likely. I've had the aluminum mini blinds in another mh, but they were difficult to clean, and I was worried the cats would get hurt when they poked their noses through. Day/night shades would be great if they weren't so high maintenance.
