RE: flea markets wheres the best

There are two great flea markets in the Pocono PA region. One is an indoor market, full of wacky antique shops and very random stalls (Indian peace pipes to bins of used license plates and old lunch pails). The other is an outdoor market (HUGE). I know each is within 30 mins. of the Pocono KOA, but I don't recall which roads. I'll hunt around the internet and see if I can locate an address for you.
There is also the Englishtown, NJ flea market, which we visit often as it is a short drive from home. If you are in the central Jersey area, it is worth a visit in spring/summer/early fall. A permanent set of buildings with stalls inside and hundreds of outdoor vendors on a nice day.

RE: General yearly costs to own a Class C for a newbie

More than most people will admit! :) We spend what we are able and try to maintain our rig as diligently as possible. It is not a cheap lifestyle, that's for darn sure.

best leveling fix?

We've used leveling jacks and boards to help level the rig at various uneven sites. We currently use a few scissor jacks and boards under tires to correct leveling issues. We'd like to purchase something that works a bit better than boards and scissor jacks.....perhaps those blocks I've seen people use?
What have you found works best for leveling? (aside from expensive hydraulic lifts---we aren't interested in going that far at this point).
Thanks all!

RE: So Then the Wrecker Arrives...

Ocean Lakes is now on our official list of great places to stay! Thanks for sharing your story. I use rv.net as my source for "personal references" when planning trips and the advice has always paid off.

Black and Decker "Start It" Worked Great

We used our B&D Start It for the first time today. It provided a 300amp jump to our chassis battery (which we neglected over the winter). We then used it to top off three tires which were below psi. Well worth the $40 we paid for it.

RE: "Duh" Moment Today

Thanks Gary for coming to my defense....re: Astro-whatever. :)
I set myself up for condemnation whenever I post about my mishaps. :)
Thanks also for the advice; we are absolutely going to invest in a portable charger. A must have.

RE: "Duh" Moment Today

Just to clarify....we're not talking coach battery, but the actual engine battery.
As for why no jumper cables, why we call AAA, etc. No reason, just lazy I guess. Sorry to offend, but I didn't post this necessarily to hear scolding...although there are always a few lurking who look for opportunities to jibe or heckle. (I'm happy to provide your amusement and chance to show off your rv skills) :)
But, seriously, I guess we'll invest in one of those charge boxes (you plug it in and it'll jump your battery w/o another car).

"Duh" Moment Today

So, went to dewinterize the RV today. We were not nearly as consistent this winter as last in terms of running the engine frequently to keep things in running order and the battery charged. In fact, we hadnt' run the engine for about 2.5 months. (I know, I know...duh:S.)
So, (you know what's coming...:R) today I went to start the engine, before doing any dewinterizing on the rig and....NOTHING. Not a click, not a thing. C O M P L E T E L Y Dead. (Thank goodness for AAA RV, we'll be calling them tomorrow for a jump.)
So, do you think a jumpt will do it? If we let it run for 20 minutes or so, then turn off the engine, will it be dead the next day??? Maybe we should take it for spin after charging to really give that battery a boost.
This could easily have been avoided...:o

RE: add a room for class c

We love it for our dogs----they often sleep in the screen room, which makes it much roomier inside the rv. It is also very helpful for avoiding bugs! It was a bit tough setting up the first time, because we had to do some initial prepping of the rv to accommodate the hooks, but after that only about 10-15 minutes. Well worth it if you're staying somewhere for a week or more.

Lake Meade rv park

We're visiting family in Nevada---w/o the RV this time, just a quick flight out for a few days visit. But we did take a drive to Lake Meade and love the little rv park they have right on the lake. Can't wait to plan a trip out west and will include Lake Meade on the list! Also found out some of the Vegas strip hotels offer free rv parking and half price hotel rooms if you are driving an rv out. Sweet deal if you want a change of pace and a couple of nights in a hotel room on the strip.

Croton on Hudson...from New Jersey

I found directions to Croton Point Park on the Roads and Routes forum, but from the north and west. We are looking for best route from central New Jersey, keeping in mind overpasses, etc. Our rig is 28' in length.
Thanks all!

RE: removing propane tank to fill?

"Extend A Stay" allows the use of an auxillary refillable gas tank. Most propane suppliers have the minor equipment necessary to do this. In fact you most probably will not have to buy the extra tank, they will furnish it or rent it to you for the period of time you need it. Some campgrounds will come around daily and pick up empty tanks for refilling, if you set them out front. They then deliver a full tank to your site. This kind of service most probably will not be available in a State or Government c/g. By the way your question is perfectly logical and this is a great place to find an answer.
Thanks Homer---I sometimes feel like a real idiot posting my rather basic questions here when I know so many experts will read them and think, "What?!" But that is why I do post here....because I know the knowledge base is here and I need answers. Thanks for your help.

RE: removing propane tank to fill?

Stay A While
You can connect auxiliary propane tanks with this. Simply get the type of tank where you exchange an empty one for a full one. You know what I mean. You see them at grocery stores, home centers, etc., all the time.
I had wondered about those portable tanks, but didn't know if they could connect to our permanent rig propane tank. Will check it out. Thanks.

RE: removing propane tank to fill?

Ummm. I'm sorry, but I would much rather remove and refill "JUST" the propane tanks, than break down my entire camp to refill the tanks.
I see you are a Full Member.... Are you Phishing????
Nope, not phishing (not really sure what that is...exactly). It is a serious question. We have a relatively small propane tank on our unit that we usually fill at a propane station. We've never removed the tank itself to fill and I was just wondering if anyone had, in fact, done that. Guess it's obvious that neither my husband nor myself are "super-rvers" with any real mechanical savvy :S....just a desire to make things a bit easier.

RE: removing propane tank to fill?

"Check with your park office to see if they have a mobile propane refill service truck that visits or is on call. Many do."
Wow---awesome possibility! I hadn't thought of that and will check w/the campground asap. Thanks for the excellent idea.

RE: RV hobbies

We check out any hiking/walking options (state parks, etc.) and try to find flea markets when possible because I love to look at junk! :) I read a great deal; the husband prefers walking the dogs or listening to classic rock. We also play LOTS of board games (scrabble, bingo, trivia games, and cards). We usually make friends at campsites or have friends along and so socializing is certainly a hobby for us!

removing propane tank to fill?

Perhaps this is not at all feasible, but I thought that if it is, surely someone on rv.net knows how.
We are looking at a stay of about a month at a favorite campground. We'll likely use at least 3 tanks of propane (and that is conservative) while there in our Four Winds 28'. We would much prefer removing the tank and filling it rather than breaking camp each week or so to drive the rig to propane filling station.
Is this wishful thinking or a real possibility?

RE: Class C and Pop up?

We purchased a screen room with a door that connects to the awning of our class C. It serves as an additional large (16' by 10') room and has shades for night privacy. A few cots in the screen room and you have a great space for sleeping. Cost us $350 on sale last year.

RE: How bad was your RVing hit in 2008?

We camped about the same amount in 08 as in 07 but kept our trips more local (within 150 miles). We have made quite different plans for 2009. We have a favorite campground which we found ourselves visiting at least twice each summer, so we booked a site there for half the season (late July to mid-October) for far less than we imagined it would cost. We'll do a small trip or two in addition to that long stretch.
We, too, were hit by the economic free fall and will likely not retire in 8 years as planned. Ah, well, I'm happy for today and we will manage.
