RE: QX56 or Excursion, that is the question

Questionable reputation on the transmission for an Armada/QX56? Where did you get that? Nitpick payload or wheelbase (the popular 1/2 ton critiques around here) if you want, but I have never heard of issues with the engine or transmission on the Armada, and I frequent Club Armada and other Nissan forums regularly in addition to this one. Nor does the Armada get the rear diff complaints that the Titan has had in the past either. The X is certainly more capable overall than the Armada for towing. The payload for a stock Excursion is not much better than an Armada though. Most X owners admit to doing some rear end mods to address this issue so if the X you are looking at is stock then you might find yourself doing the same. I am very happy with the performance of my Armada with a 7000 lb GVWR Spree so I think the QX56 will do just fine in this case too.

RE: First fivers from Ever-Lite

I see the opposite of "they won't make it." There already people towing lighter fifth wheels with 1/2 tons. Some of them are probably overloaded and yet they do not become the fireballs of death causing horrible litigation that so many weight police here envision. They end result of their overloading is better business for airbag/suspension modification companies and maybe slower performance on hills. EverGreen will probably fill a niche with high end fifth wheels that do fit within 1/2 specs. Even someone with a 3/4 ton could see the benefit of having a well-appointed yet lighter fifth wheel. The EverLite design incorporates the same axles that heavier fifth wheels have yet they save weight on the walls while still having stronger construction.

First fivers from Ever-Lite

First shot across the bow from the EverLite guys. Looks awesome. I will probably move to a fifth wheel from my TT here in a few years, and these guys might get my business. The compositek advantage is a big piece (look at that weight), but there are a lot of other good features here too such as the gel coat and demand based water heater.

RE: Dodges Marketing Director should be FIRED

Well said. Oh and don't forget that the only commercial for the new truck says that the new name is just "Ram", but the link at the bottom says www.dodge.com/ram. This seems small, but it is indicative of a marketing plan that has been half-heartedly thrown together.

"Drips Oil and Drops Grease Everywhere"
Hey you must be the guy who bought my old truck!
Does it still run on the LEAK theory? (LEAK theory, if it's leaking oil ... good, it still has some, if it stops leaking start to worry because it's got none left in it.)"
That is definitely the theory used at times in my other "ride" (ie. my namesake), but I am not so sure about a car that works that way! I have never owned a Dodge, but I wanted to ensure equality for the Ford owners. I have never heard a good Nissan one, and I have only heard one for Chevy proper.

RE: TPO Roof on Jayco Jayfeather Line JAYCO REPLY " New Post"

The Spree line might use this new system as well. The Spree construction video shows the membrance being applied, and it does not look like it has a felt backing. I am not sure though.

RE: TPO Roof on Jayco Jayfeather Line JAYCO REPLY " New Post"

Reading this thread almost makes me want to jump ship to an Ever-Lite. They would be leading my list if I was buying new because their roofs are wood-free, rubber/TPO free, and laminated using compositek which is not as susceptible to water damage. I have a KZ with a TPO roof. Knock on wood, but there doesn't seem to be as many issues with the KZ TPO roofs.

Sounds like you need a Tundra. Just kidding, but someone had to say it.
In all seriousness, I hope you get the issue figured out.

RE: Husky Centerline Hitch

I have been trying to find a centerline at a dealer or even online since posting this thread...where did you buy it? Anyone know of an online dealer who sells them?

RE: best TT brands

I have a KZ, and I am very happy with it. If I were looking for a new one today, KZ would be on my list. Jayco has added some great floorplans and features to their 2010 lines too, especially with Nev-R-Adjust brakes. I would also definitely look at Ever-Lite. All three of these companies have two year warranties, good reputations for customer service, and Ever-Lite's composite construction sounds really promising.

RE: Hensley Arrow or Equalizer Hitch?

Honestly I would add the Husky Centerline to your search too. It looks like it has the Equalizer 4 points, but then it also adds compression cams to the bars for centering action. It is very new so you won't get a lot of reviews on it, but I believe there is at least one person on this forum using it.

RE: Expedition/SUV Wheelbase

Bigger truck...bigger garage or smaller trailer. Not to hard to figure out.
Ken
How in the world are weight police admonitions coming into this topic!? Do you guys get commissions from the sales of 3/4 ton or 1 ton pickups? This a less-than-30 ft trailer that is also less than 6K lbs. Any of the large SUVs with the max tow package will pull this trailer.

RE: Heartland RV

They recently announced a new line too. The Caliber line looks like a high end lightweight trailer line...much like Keystone's new Bullet premier and EverLite. What surprises me is that they are not getting into the composites like Everlite or Earthbound.

RE: Expedition/SUV Wheelbase

The Armada is rated to up to 9100 lbs and has the longest wheelbase of any of the large SUVs (not including super length ones which you have ruled out). The new Sequoia can tow up to 10,000 (depending on trim level), and has a wheelbase of 122. If I were you, I would buy one of these. They both have stronger engines than the Expedition and better wheelbase. Look for the snow patrol shootout at truck trend which compared these three SUVs. A used Armada would probably be cheaper. Another plus for the Armada is OEM tow mirrors which are not available on any other vehicle in this class. JMHO. That calculation for wheelbase is questioned regularly here too. I don't know where that came from, but I have yet to see a manufacturer rating for wheelbase and towing. Going by those metrics, no truck anywhere would tow over ~ 30 ft. I tow a 33 ft. trailer within the weight limits of my Armada, and I am happy with the performance. To each his own.

RE: How long is too long to tow?

Wow. The weight police are out again on this one...even more restrictive than normal. Now the 1/2 tons have to stay under 30ft, even if it is a lighter weight trailer. It is your choice, but I disagree. A 32 ft trailer at 7-8K GVWR is still well within the 80% rule of thumb of a big tow Titan's max tow rating. Plenty of Titan owners pulling these size trailers...and F150 owners, and Tundra owners, and Ram owners.

RE: How long is too long to tow?

I tow a 33 ft trailer (KZ Spree 318BHS) with an Armada, and I am quite happy with the performance. You have the same engine, transmission and more wheelbase so I think 33 ft would be no issue. I use an Equalizer hitch with my setup. A 33 ft length will give you a load of floorplans to choose from with plenty available in the 7-8K GVWR range, which I think is the max (comfortably) you want to be with a 1/2 ton. Exocet might come on here. He pulls the same trailer as I do with his Titan.

RE: Need help from experienced RVers

"I considered the Keystone, but in terms of warranty they are really at a disadvantage. You can at least get a 2 year warranty from Forest River for about $100 more (at least you could at the time). Keystone is one year, and I have seen some less-than-stellar reports of Keystone customer service on here. Laredos do seem like a pretty solid line by them though."
I would never base my decision on that."
I have a relative that has had some issues with Keystone as well so my reservations are not based solely on posts here. THat being said, I do think some of the Keystone lines, including Laredo are nice. It is a decision with many variables...for me customer service was a heavily weighted one.
