GM Recall

Just got this in the mail, anyone else?
General Motors has decided that a defect, which relates to motor vehicle safety, exists in certain 2007
model year GMC Sierra vehicles registered in New Brunswick, Newfoundland, Nova Scotia, Ontario,
Prince Edward island, and Quebec. As a result, GM is conducting a safety recall.
Some of these vehicles may have a condition where an electronic component located beneath the driver's
seat may corrode due to a significant quantity of snow and/or water containing road salt or other
contaminants entering the vehicle and saturating the acoustical padding beneath the carpet. Your
vehicle's electronic sensing and diagnostic module (SDM) is located underneath this acoustical padding.
If sufficient moisture collects and is retained in the padding, it may cause excessive corrosion under the
module; compromising the module seal and allowing water intrusion and system malfunction. This may
result in illumination of the Airbag Readiness light, along with a "Service Airbag" message on the Driver
Information Centre, and in rare cases, deployment, of the seat belt pretensioner and/or airbags.
Your GM dealer will remove the acoustical pad above the SDM. This service will be performed for you at
no charge.

RE: Lippert frames...........

What are those things that look like gas shocks (2) attached to the frame in your weld pics? Is there a hatch in you underbelly? Just curious.
2 storage hatches under the overhang.

RE: Lippert frames...........

In the pic. of the front of your cross member, is that the start of a fracture at the bottom of "C" channel on the other side as well? If so this lends credence to fore and aft forces acting on that framing. You can actually see the impressions of the ends of those side channel iron pieces and their end plates showing on the front side of that channel as though it were trying to "punch" it's way through from the rear.
Yes you are right, it had started to crack at the other hanger, if it had gone too we probably would have had a major problem on the road, the fellow that repaired it could not believe how badly it had been done, scary to say the least.

RE: Lippert frames...........

CharLan; sorry, disagree on the bad weld diagnosis. On the reverse pic there is no weld where the fracture occurred it is about two inches to the left of that fracture. The fore and aft frame member supporting the pin-box side plate framing is welded (apparently secure enough as not fractured there) to that transverse main frame member which is of a simple "C" channel design which *"IMHO"* should have been a box tube of rectangular cross section of the same height.
Actually the break occured where the flange of the hanger was welded to the back of the beam where you see the weld.
This is a pic of the same weld

RE: Lippert frames...........

"bad wield... Nice picture ..but what is it. Is it a frame? part of a frame??How did it break? who wielded it. It looks like it was wielded and broke again????
We know little about welding so we goggled around to learn.. " If it looks like garbage it probably is " was a common comment. There are many variables to doing good welds. Also it takes a expert to visually determine a bad weld as well as various testing. I would feel better if any person who posted about bad welds was qualified to say that.
The picture is the back side of this picture http://www3.sympatico.ca/charles.lindberg/kingframe1.jpg
I was told by a master welder that the flange that holds king pin hitch was over welded and weakened the beam.

RE: Lippert frames...........

Then there are folks like me..I have no idea what a good..or bad wield looks like.I have no experience or expertise in that area. We have toured the Lippert plant and I do not recall seeing many actual people wielding frames.. Lots of machines..but few people???? Perhaps someone who has actually been in the plant, knows wielding and paid attention on what was going on can enlighten us.

RE: a small dent :(

Dry ice and a hair drier will take the dent out, heat area with hair dryer and then apply dry ice to area and dent should come out, you can also use a can of air ( the kind you use for cleaning computer keyboards ) heat area with dryer then turn air can upside down and spray area. That is how detailers get minor dent out.:B

RE: Good Sam Badges

My final solution was to change all my email addresses and finally the selector button appeared. As you can see, no more GS "endorsement".
Like I said in an earlier post I changed my email address and the endorsement was still there, I did mention that some other criteria must have been used from our good sam application and lo and behold it is now gone.

RE: Loose Trim

I'm a new member and have a question about a problem with my 2009 Everest fiver model 420I.
The trim on the passenger side of the front storage area is pulling loose. It is mostly in the curve working down to the bottom of the trailer, after towing awhile their is a space at the curve where you can see the screws pulled out. I have removed the rubber strip and tightened the screws back and have added a few more. Nothing seems to help it will pull back apart when towed again. The front panel which has the door to the storage department is loose at the bottom on the passenger side. I have an appointment to take in to the dealer, but was just wondering if anyone has had a similiar problem and might share some information.
I would have them check the frame in that area for broken welds.

RE: Good Sam Badges

Yes, we are lifetime members. Don't know why the symbol doesn't show up for us, but either way it doesn't matter at all to us. Much ado about far too little, IMHO.
They already have all of our info and probabaly have sold it to other for profit companies, that's why we get so much junk mail re: camping. I guess it might bother others, but we've got other things to focus on.
The Logo will not show if the email address you registered with here is not the same as the one on your Good Sam Club account. Changing them to agree this weekend will probably not change things. As stated earlier in the thread, the technicians are tweaking the system and will be providing a check box on your profile or preferences page.
Tom
I wish that people wouldn't make statements like the above without knowing the facts, my email address here is different from good sam but the logo still shows up in my signature.
So my question is are they using other info from GS to add the logo?

RE: Replacing the Underbelly

I am having the same issue. The previous owner cut the underbelly to add a gas line and taped it back together. Last summer I was in rain for 3 days and the belly just opened up. I found some gorilla tape and it lasted until the high heat of Arizona hit. Anyone found something else to seal it?
Flex-Mend Tape is the right tape to use for underbelly repair.

RE: 08 Duramax oil change

okay, was so excited to work on my truck I couldnt wait. Can someone describe the magnet on the spin on filter? I didnt see one, dont remember seeing one the last time I did it either. What happens if it's not there?
Like someone said earlier it could be stuck in the hole check there first.

RE: Silverado/GMC HD Pickups with HD trailer wiring Harness

Well who would of thought,I checked my 2008 2500 HD D/A with factory brake controller installed. Never had a problem with our batteries.I checked to see if the battery wire was hooked up. It wasn't but the 40 amp fuse is in place the wire was easy to find and hook up. Why doesn't the factory hook it up, do they want you to bring it back to the dealer?
And dont forget to unplug your 7 pin when camping as the power to it does not shut off when the truck does.
