RE: HELP! What does this NEWB need?!

While you are in the RV section at Walmart be sure to pick up a plastic container of different sized fuses. My son thought I was crazy I did that until we needed them and I had them. lol Saved us a trip. I have a plastic tote that I call the misc. tote. DS know where I am talking about if he calls and needs something. Now he just looks there first.lol Cherry Cherry

RE: boxed curtain valances

Go to Home Depot and see if they have something for wood in the Loctite products. Loctite makes a product for screws going into metal so they probably make something for wood too. That way you can get the screws out when you need to but they won't vibrate out on their own. Cherry

RE: Rats!

You can also get "one bite" from Ace Hardware store. Be sure to keep it away from the dog as 1 bite is all it takes to get rid of rats and mice. I had a whole family of rats that gnawed their way into my garage and set up housekeeping. I put out One Bite and they and their babies were all dead within a day or 2. I have not had a problem since. I keep it up away from the dog so she can't get into it. I have not found any more dead critters but every once in awhile I can see where something took a bite out of the stick. Cherry

RE: 5th Wheel Travel with Large Dogs

If your dog has a problem jumping into the truck you can get a ramp at petsmart to put up so they can climb into the truck. That is what I used to get my English mastiff into the vehicle. Cherry

RE: 5th Wheel Travel with Large Dogs

My son travels with a 200# English mastiff in my 5er. He rides in the back seat of the truck. Never had a problem at any CG with him. He rarely barks and is well trained. My 9# toy poodle that I have now have (my last 235# mastiff has gone to the Rainbow Bridge)rides in her car seat. Cherry

RE: 5er Newbie

Pennysmom I think he is talking about "The Next Exit" for fuel stops. You can get it from Amazon. While on their website check out any other RV books like the atlas for truckers if you are not near a truck stop. Hope that helps. Cherry

RE: We Took Your Advice Ordered a Dually

I am glad to hear you got a Dually. My son's truck and my truck are alike except his is SRW and mine is DRW. We have pulled my 5er with both trucks. Towing is more stable with the DRW and now he wishes he had DRW. You won't be sorry that is what you got. Cherry

RE: Memphis Tn

I lived west of Memphis but I worked in a bad part of town at the city hospital. I can tell you do NOT stay near Graceland. You can go there during the day but do not stay in that area after dark! When I lived there it was the middle 80's and I know it has gotten worse since then as I have been back to visit. Cherry

RE: Would you recommend a 5th wheel for me?

I don't think anyone adequately answered your question about the hitch for a 5th wheel. Where you buy your 5er will have hitches and put it in for you. They "gave" me my hitch and I told them I wanted the Reese with the clam jaws as I felt more comfortable with those closing around the king pin but that is just me. So negotiate them giving you the hitch. Of course, we all know nothing is free so I am sure the price is hidden in the price for the 5er. Hope that helps. Cherry

RE: tv lift mechanism

DRM I see you have a Wildcat 313RE which is what I have too. Go to www.wildcatcamperforum.com. Then go to general discussion. Tell Chris what the problem is and he will get with you. He is the factory rep. He monitors the forum frequently. He does much better in the winter then when all the RV shows are going. You might also want to look through some of the long threads that are still active as I know the Wildcat number is in there. Someone can also give you the number if you ask them so you could start your own thread. TC is a mod and she might eve be able to give it to you. Cherry

RE: Would you recommend a 5th wheel for me?

OnTaMove I am a 68yr old female and I have a 35 ft 5er. I chose that as I did not want 2 drive trains to have upkeep on like you would have with a MH+towed. The maint. on a MH is way too expensive for my purse!! I have a 1 ton dually diesel that I drive every day. Yes I park out in taxi land at the store but that is ok with me. Also I got the trump pillow top mattress when I ordered my 5er as like you I did not want to sleep on 2" of foam. I love my mattress and I like it better than what I have in my house. My son uses my 5er more than I do right now and he too likes the mattress better than what they have in their house. He is thinking about getting one for his house as they are now selling them in stores too. Oh and you can back a 5er just as well as a MH. Don't let them think because you are a female you are incapable of it!! :) Cherry

RE: Inexpensive Kids Toys? Foam Planes, etc.....

For glow in the dark bubbles. Break open a glow stick and pour into the jar of bubble solution. It will make the solution glow at night. Kids love it to have bubbles they blow being lit up. Cherry

RE: hard bed

I should have said in my post that my mattress is a Trump Pillow Top. They now are starting to sell them in stores. They are regular mattresses so the do not have RV tagged on them to make them more expensive. Cherry

RE: Brand new to this, have a lot of questions

I am going to jump in here from the woman's point of view. First there is more storage with a 5er than a TT. You are probably going to want something with 3 slides since you are use to a lot of space. Can you get into the fridge and bathroom with the slides in when you want a quick lunch or use the bathroom when traveling? I think a 5er is easier to pull than a TT. That is, you will not have the sway with a 5er like you do with a TT. Even though you are buying from a friend you need to go spend hours in the ones you are looking at. Have them just go off and leave you and if you have any questions you will look them up. Sit and watch TV for awhile. Is it in a comfortable place? Pretend you are cooking. Get IN the shower and close the shower door and pretend you are bathing. Do you have enough room? Does the shower door open all the way or does it hit the toilet and only open part way? Sit on the toilet. Yes, sit down on it. Is it in a place that give you enough room? Lay on the bed for awhile. I looked for a year before I got mine and I did all these things. As I looked my must have list grew and the things I could not live with grew too. Remember if something would be a little irritant it becomes huge after you buy it and you are stuck with it. As for maint. on the roof, it just needs to be checked every summer or oftener if you need to sweep/ wash it off. Check for cracks in caulking. The biggest thing is watch for low hanging branches that can tear the roof!! Don't ask me how I know. lol Your roof should last you at least 10 with just some simple care. You also have not said what you are going to tow it with. What are your plans there? If it was me (and I did this too) I would buy new since you are going to live in until your house is built. That is just me. I found the floor plan I wanted and got it. Yes I will be living in mine fulltime before the summer is out and I get the house sold. Just because you are buying from a friend don't let them talk you into something you don't really want. It is your money so get what you like NOT what they are trying to move off the lot. Order it if you have too. Negotiate the selling price! Don't take the price they offer you. Don't get caught up in the excitement of looking at them. Have fun looking. Cherry

RE: Auto level-slide open best sequence?

I have the auto level system too. While it is doing the leveling then hook everything up outside then go inside and put the slides out. Makes set up quick and easy. I would say you might have a leak. Cherry

RE: Getting into a 5th wheel

As a mother of a son who wanted to go independent in his business 15 yr ago I know how you need support emotionally. I like your idea as a matter of fact. I think you have a lot more money than you are letting on! (Yes, my son is successful too BTW and everyone else told him not to go independent except for me. I encouraged him and I couldn't be prouder of him!). I did not spend 80K on my set up. I got a used 1 ton dodge ram and bought a new 5th wheel last yr. I think you know how to budget your money much better than some "old people". I say go for it. If you are happy where you are living you will do better in your studies. Keep us updated. Cherry

RE: Which is the easiest on the back?

I have a 5er with the 6 point leveling and I love it! Push a button and while it does it's thing leveling you can be plugging in the water, electric and TV cable and you are done. Of course, no matter what you get the water faucet at the campground will be on the ground and you have to bend over for that. The only time I have to bend over when setting up/tearing down is when I am connecting/ removing the stinky slinky. Electric, water, TV cable is all done in a standing position. I am short so stepping up on that 1st step at some places in a long step up do I got a 2 step plastic stool at Walmart that I use to get up on the firs step going into the 5er. Cherry
