RE: Extended cab vs crewcab

Crewcabs have better resale value, Might want to add airbags if considering a 3/4 ton

RE: Long Box--Short Box?

If sticking with a GM diesel truck I believe the short box is the way to go. New trucks all come with 36 gallon tanks. GM short box is 6'6" others are 6' or shorter. Not much of a difference in visibility compared to your current truck. If going with a CrewCab long box the biggest concern has to be parking the truck when traveling without trailer. There is a lot of parking lots I have encountered that is tight with the short box crew cab.

RE: Komfort 2620 tows very high in front with stock GMC 2500

It seems to me the simplest fix would be taller tires on the trailer if they'll fit.

RE: Komfort 2620 tows very high in front with stock GMC 2500

Unless the tires one of the axels is wearing faster than the other does it really matter? I pull alot of different models out of the factories. The smaller fifth wheels sit lower than the larger ones. I think its to make them 1/2 ton towable. Rear bumper on the small ones will by 8" to a foot above the ground. On the larger units some have almost 3 foot ground clearance.

RE: Need advice on toy hauler swaying on freeway

I have experienced sway also with my 3/4 ton when pull light short tandem axel trailers. I stick to pull longer heavier trailers and there is less problems.

RE: Fuse box problems

I worked for a electrician for 4 year and have seen some weird things others have screwed up they want you to fix. Mindreader is a requirement for that job. I now drive new camper from factory to dealers. much less headaches. You probably should keep that short strand of wire. Might have to put it back. Probably powers something.

RE: Fuse box problems

Next step I would take is taking the outlet out of the wall. Look for any signs of shorts, bad spots on wires. Take the outlet off the wires. Try Another fuse. If thats not it remove panel box front so wiring is exposed look for same there. If you find nothing. Then check the wires with a meter. Pull the wire off the fuse. On the outlet side of the circuit with the wires off the outlet should be a hot, neutral and ground. Touch hot to neutral. Go back to Panel, put meter on Ohm setting, Touch one meter prong to wire that was pulled off fuse and other to neutral bar, where all white wires are. Meter should read a closed circuit, unhook wires at outlet, meter should read open circuit if it doesn't there is a short in the cable. Try same method with hot to ground. Hope I didnt confuse you I can picture it but its hard to describe. Im saying this hoping the fridge is the only thing connected to that fuse. Electrical issues can get complicated depending on who originally wired it or anyone screwed with it.

RE: Fuse box problems

Really? Isolate the circuit. !1 Unplug the fridge. Then replace the fuse. If it doesn't blow fridge is bad. If it does wires, outlet or something else on circuit is bad.

RE: 5er with a 08 chevy 3500 SW duramax?

It all depends on how heavy you plan to go and how far you plan to travel. Airbags on rear axel make ride much more comfortable with real heavy trailers.

RE: How often do you rotate tires?

I usually rotate when the rears wear down about 1/16 to 3/32nds less than the fronts. Usually when tires are new I rotate more frequent. As the tire become more worn rotation intervals become longer and longer. I like keeping my most worn tires in the front.

RE: "V" Nose Trailer Make Any Difference???

I have pulled many trailers across country from factories in Indiana to dealerships. From My experiences rounded fronts do the best in windy situations. I dislike V-nose trailers. They grab more cross winds. High front is like a giant sail. I don't like the way they handle in windy situations.

RE: K&N intake air system

I think its less of a problem than others state. I have run one for a long time on my truck. Just have to make sure its cleaned, let dry then oiled correctly. I have only run into a problem once with the filter. I under oiled it and the truck went into reduced power. It does give the truck better throttle response. Not certain if better economy is gained.

RE: anyone towing 12000 lb 5th wheel with 3/4 ton pick up

I think the deciding factor should be how far you actually plan to pull the trailer. A smaller truck would be fine for short trips but not anything across country.

RE: Towing 1-ton 4 down

As of 2010 GM tansfer cases can be shifted to netrual. I have pulled a 2009 GM truck behind mine before. Have to read owners manual on how to do it correctly. I think that you have to set E brake, then gear select to netrual, then turn and hold dial on gear select to netrual. Which is between 4hi an 4lo. Once its in netrual park on gear select will not keep the truck from rolling. You what a really good braking system to control the brakes on the vehicle being pulled. Tryed it with a used brake buddy and the pulled vehicle seemed slow to respond.

RE: Sway problems

I have noticed when pulling a worn the tire increases stablilty. Less tread depth the rubber doesnt move as much.

RE: tire life on 3/4 ton (or bigger) vs 1/2 ton

When I run my truck its usualy 600+ miles a day 1/2 time pulling. I have seen 120k miles out of the stock Bridgestone Duravis M700 down to 2/32nds. 10 months on truck. All postions 80 psi. Second set Bridgestone Duravis R500 lasted 185,000 miles. Down to 2/32nds, aired to 90 psi. Lasted 14 monthes. I have a diesel thats not hard on tires. I think wear has a lot to do with front to rear weight ratio. Rear wheel drive with a lighter rear axel is gonna tear up tires.
