A great place to boondock Mobile, Alabama

If anyone is near Mobile go down to the road near the USS Alabama.
there is an area where there were service stations that have been blown away by various
hurricanes, According to a local they gave up after the second or third hurricane ...the foundations are still there and lot of people park and fish.
you can see the USS Alabama from there. Plenty of room to park...all night..just the sound from I-10.
A great view of Mobile Bay.
I also recommend the battleship and submarine tour... you will get your money's worth

RE: 2001 Lance 1161 NIGHTMARE!!!

removing your stops and running the slide in beyond the stops to the fridge is a great idea.
I am looking forward to seeing your pics of the fix..

RE: Ford Diesel Problem

just a little heads up on the 6.0 mainly from 2003 to 2005
make sure you have all the "TSB"s Technical service bulletins done for the VIN on your truck
if you plan on keeping it.
an important one is the head bolt replacement and EGR cooler update...depends on your year of truck..
my brother went down the lonely road on his 6.0. don't wait till the truck starts running bad to make sure... i always ask..some dealers do not want to volunteer any info.
good luck...

RE: Side enrty vs Back entry ?

when I went shopping for my camper...Sonny's r.v. in Duncan, S.C. in May 2002
the things I noticed were:
the equivalent rear door model 1121 ( I think )
was more expensive
the holding tanks had a little more capacity
and the bathroom was a little bigger.
but I was attracted to the side door.
I am still happy with the 1161 setup.

RE: Repair your slide room sag the sleepy way DIY

I would think that even though you do not have the sag yet, to install that fix 'before" there is a problem is a good idea..

RE: 2001 Lance 1161 NIGHTMARE!!!

I have the 1161.. that is why I wanted to brace the underside whether or not I am sagging or not.. I worry that your situation will sneak up on me.
I have looked the best I can and find no damaged wood, however the rivet heads from underneath were beginning to pull through.
At the typical $90 an hour I can imagine easily 6 or 7000 dollars.
there are a lot of lance slideout owners...speaking for myself are very concerned that it will
sneak up on me.
Please keep us posted ... I do feel bad about your situation.

RE: In your spare time,

got hooked on airboats 10 years old. there is a rivalry between aircraft engines and automotive.. I don't get into that I can afford only one kind and that is automotive but enjoy looking and watch running aircraft powered airboats when I go to Florida.
airboats are one thing that is ...you love them or hate them!! not much in between.
however, there is nothing like dropping off the trailer and driving off into the water!!
there is a similar group as rv.net for airboats...southernairboats.com

RE: Generac Help

I like hearing big hours on generacs.... at sometime I will have to have a starter put on .it is
making occasional strange noises in the bendix or whatever it uses to engage the flywheel.
I started my gen. after reading this post yesterday...it was 34 here in Abilene.
I use straight 30 weight and I also cover the air intake with my hand for a few revolutions, it cuts down on cranking time.

RE: Generac Help

the year after I bought my 1161 my generac impact started acting up.. not running shutting off.. it went to a generac service center and back re-installed and the same problem.
finally I removed the cover on the left side (drivers side of gen.) where the plug wire goes into and looking around to see if I could find something lose.
I did download the free shop manual...it is very helpful
there are a number of connectors under there.. I found one that had pushed the wire out of the connector ...a very small wire.. when I plugged it back in that eliminated my gen. problems... but I was also told by a gen. tech. at a r.v. dealer to re-torque the head and adjust valves afterward.. that turned out to be good advice.
the head bolts were loose.. I wanted to pass that on to everyone with the impact.
It looks like that gen is no longer being made...other than being loud it does the job if you can keep it running
I currently have 240 hours ( knock on wood )

RE: lance slideout sag--1161

additionally looking under the support there were button head rivets that were beginning to pull through.. the gap between the seal and the bottom of the slideout has lessen but not eliminated.. I use a garage door bottom seal and glue in on ..can't be seen with slide in and is effective when slide is out.
If someone has a better fix please share

RE: lance slideout sag--1161

the place i went to installed an "L" shaped piece of steel and used the existing tiedown bolts
they removed the tiedowns and drilled the holes in the steel for the tiedowns.
2002 Lance 1161
someone had a the support break when he hit a speed bump.. I would think an overlooked
pothole could do the same thing..

RE: lance slideout sag--1161

I certainly did not disagree with you... I just would just go ahead and take care of the
problem just for the future.
Sleepy, I do appreciate your taking the time ..I was just heading off possible future trouble.
the people here in Kansas seem to be a little more helpful than in Georgia and South Carolina while I am here I would take care of a possible problem.
I do thank you for your all of your help.

lance slideout sag--1161

I am visiting my daughter her husband and grandchildren in Abilene, Kansas.
A nice little town that has a very low crime rate..a great place to raise kids.
anyway:
the update on my sag is, looking on the bottom side there are a row of button head rivets
that were pulling through. It was not severe and I sent pics of my sag to Sleepy who did
not think it was bad , but after the fellow went over the speed break and broke the support. I would rather err on the safe side.
I went to a RV repair only location in Salina, Kansas 29 miles from Abilene. they installed
an L shaped piece of steel that was stronger than necessary and painted it.
they drilled holes for the two tiedowns for a reasonable price.
Now I have piece of mind !!
I do thank Sleepy for the great advice and guidance and showing me the location of the
slideout motor in case I ever have a problem with it.
Hope this helps other 1161 owners.

RE: Lance Warranty/Customer Service is PO me off // Update

get back on the horn and ask to talk to someone higher up on the food chain.
They were glad to have someone in Conyers,GA. to work on mine and I bought my 1161 in
South Carolina and that is less than 200 miles away.
keep us up to date..
I hope their policy has not gone into such a tail spin.

lance slideout sag

A couple of years after I bought my 2002 lance 1161 I noticed sag under the slide and delam on left wing. this was approx. 2004.
took it back to the dealer in South Carolina for warranty work
Sonny's R.V.
When I got it back from the dealer in South Carolina (it was shipped back to Lancaster for repairs) the Wing was repaired but could not see where there was any repair on the sag of the slideout.
( there was no paperwork on the repairs) I have noticed an indention on the outside forward side of slideout frame 1/3 of the way up. ( indention is on camper not on slideout)
I noticed Sleepy had a fix for this problem without removing the slideout.
If you would share this with me and other 1161 owners. I think I would be as easy on a camper as anyone so I know there will be others with this problem.
I would enclose a pic if I knew how.
I am now in Abilene Kansas with my grandkids but live in Covington,Ga.
thanks for any help.
