RE: Opportunity or Joke?

Thanks, you guys have provided some great background on this! Maybe I'd rather speak to his wife and ask her how she feels about it! :W

Wonder what the story is here. I'm really tempted to go see - I am not far - but pretty happy with my own, known, sound, non-swimming rig.

RE: Important info for us RVers

I think it's all good advice and I thank you.
I'd add have someone take care of the lawn (maybe pay that neighbor kid to mow the lawn) if it's a long trip rving away from the stick house. Maybe lock down your nice grill. My dog sitter (for taking care of the 2 or 3 dogs I leave at home while traveling with 2 or 3 - I have a lot of dogs) also will take in the mail and anything left on the front porch, do the watering in and out, close and open curtains.

RE: 39 amp service to 50 amp

If you can't get a site with 30 amp service (which might be a little less expensive), you will want a male 50 amp to female 30 amp converter, also called (I believe) a dog bone or pigtail.
Here's a nice article I read to try to understand more when we purchased one of the above this summer

The campground may have them to lend or to sell to you at (usually) a higher price for right now usage. Many places sell them - try a local rv/camping store, or online like ebay and online stores including but definitely not limited to:

RE: Zune

DH reports that the other day a Wall Street analyst said Zune has only 2% of the market and thought they should withdraw from making the product. Could be another orphan soon?
This is a very funny commercial I remember:
"no one wants a zune for Christmas"
DH and 2 daughters are huge iPod fans, as you might guess

RE: Class A or Class C Super

I commend you for the use of the crates during travel (safety), but be sure to plan ahead where you want to put those dog crates. They take a lot of floor space and you need to make sure the dogs stay cool where the crates are placed.
In our regular Class C 29 footer, we have put one corgi sized crate under the dinette, or two in the shower (you must put blocks under to level them, need bungie across front of shower to keep crates from sliding out, and the shower is then unusable until you move the crates), or two squeezed between the bedside and window (which has gotten stuffy/warm for the dogs during the day of travel in hot climates, and is such an impediment for moving around the bed). I never came up with an anchoring system for the crates adequately overhead in our cabover, since the usual occupant (12 yr old daughter) didn't want anything screwed into the space. I have always been interested if a bunk bed unit would perhaps offer some space for dog crates during the day if/when the kids weren't there. I don't know which of your two units under consideration will have better space for 2 lab sized dog crates.
You will have lots of fun traveling with family and dogs, whatever arrangement you figure out!

NO. Sounds like a fast way to lose friendships and maybe also your MH.

RE: Wife Is Hard On Coach Batteries

The french press coffee is way better than machine coffee. Make fresh right before you want it, or warm up any leftover when you wake up after your sleep-in!

RE: Looking for a used Karguard by Blue Ox

I thought the Karguard was expensive, too. We have Blue Ox Aventa LX. I eventually went with Protect-A-Tow for half the price and less than half the storage space. Easy to install and lightweight. Loved it on our 4200 mile trip this summer - not one chip on our CR-V toad.

RE: How much ground do you cover in a day ?

300 - 350 miles per day was comfortable for us, but have done up to 500 miles per day in our 4200 mile trip this summer. It tends to average covering about 50 miles per hour allowing for gas stops, driver changes, and the inevitable road construction or traffic jams. We usually eat lunch on the road, by which I mean usually I walk to the kitchen to make us sandwiches to eat as we continue to roll down the road (it saves time and is healthier than fast food) w/ DH driving. We both take turns driving and navigating. We also try to plan for good fuel stops, like a Flying J, which are easier and faster to get in and out of. Remember you'll have to allow for breaking and making camp at the beginning and end of each day.

RE: RV fire + multicar accident I-25 Colo Spgs

I didn't really understand, either. The news sounded like there were some conflicting reports as to contributing factors. The poor driver's burns sound very bad. There was a bit more info and video on the accident on the Colo Spgs channel.

RE: what delayed your campin trip???

Last summer 2008, we planned to go from CO to the Badlands. Right before we were to pull out of the driveway, my 11 yr old daughter had tingling of face and hands, then right sided facial droop, and then lost her power to speak. Ambulanced her to local hospital and then Children's. It was the worst experience of our lives. We thought she might be dying. Turned out to NOT be a stroke or brain tumor or seizure, but rather by a diagnosis of exclusion and many tests over the rest of the summer, a rare atypical kind of migraine (confusional migraine). However, in retrospect, I do believe we were being looked out after - it would have been SO much worse to be in the middle of the Badlands without ready access to medical care. She is doing great now, thank the Lord.

RE: And So It Goes #2, The musings Of The Moderator

We were also at Camp-A-Way in Omaha about 3 weeks ago, and we, too, were very impressed with the friendly, helpful, and efficient young men at the desk. I am very sorry we missed the weekly night of the BBQ - sounds so good!

RE: Place to eat in Santa Fe??

Have eaten twice at El Meson for memorable meals and would recommend. Traditional foods of Spain. More upscale. Fabulous tapas. Just north off the Plaza 1.5 blocks. I would not drive my RV there in the crowded roads and parking, take a toad or TV.
