RE: Vista Bule Teardrop Trailers

I have had 2 new Lances, a 2010 model #1880 and a 2012 model #1575. All Lance's other than 1575 have a rubber roof, which my #1880 developed bubbles. All Lance models have roof and side seams that will need resealing after awhile. The reason I ditched my new 2012 Lance was slide issues.
That said, no fiberglass trailers have leak issues EXCEPT around vents and or windows, no seams that require maintenance which you have in other SOB trailers. Once properly resealed they are leak proof. Some fiberglass models have fiberglass floors or wood encased in fiberglass, any water that does get in drains out. There is no wood in the walls nor laminate issues with fiberglass. There are owners with units made in the 60,70,80's and up. Just like a Corvette, they last forever.

RE: Vista Bule Teardrop Trailers

I had an EggCamper, unbelievably huge inside. Do not let the others sway your opinion, these fiberglass campers like Casita, Scamp, Escape and Eggcamper all weigh less than 3000# and will last forever. They may cost a little more than SOB but their useful life is 30-40 years and they hold their value. No leaks nor rubber roof to worry about and tow very easy. RE: Looking for advice

A 1/2 ton pickup may be able to pull a lot but it can not carry a lot. The gross carrying capacity may only be 1300-1600 lbs and this include passengers. So any tongue weight over 500 lbs may be exceeding your capacity.

RE: Should I buy my first TT in the winter?

They can dewinterize it inside their shop and hook it up to water for you to test everything. That is what a dealer did for me when I drove to Chicago for a new unit in February. Remember to climb up and inspect the roof, I forgot and mine had bubbles.

RE: NW Ohio to San Antonio late Dec

I doubt you can make it while still day light out to unwinterize, it gets dark around 4:30, why not just unwinterize at home and travel with water, the movement will keep anything from freezing, or just keep air inside and then hookup in Tennessee. Just hope no winter storms come up that way.

RE: Australian Talvor to start building TT's in the US

Will you please stop teasing us Robert with these beautiful trailers, I love looking at them but like a kid in a candy store, look but no touch. Please tell the manufacturers to somehow ship them over in containers, like they do with cars.

RE: Fun Finder 189FDS, Lance 1575 or < 20' w/ queen + rear windo

I was under the impression it was a 3500# axle since that is the trailer rating? The frame was very flexible in that if not level and with stabilizers down, the door would stick.

RE: Shortest trailer w/full slide?

That is the same video posted for my slide problem. The issue is (1) my slide got stuck retracted. You have no access to the motor without having to tear off the trim. Lance should have placed a removable hinge plate where the motor is located. The video shows it being out and of course you have access. The other issue is (2) no manual slide back up, Schwintek says to remove the motor, push the slide in and then secure with2x4's for transit. I'm not towing a new trailer with a slide secured with a 2x4, sorry. In addition after being fixed, it never retracted all the way in, see my post's on the Lance forums, the slide is not flush and extends one corner by 2-3", this allows wind and rain. Sorry, the first year model has design flaws, including the instant hot water and the leaky antenna.
It is a design flaw. The other Lance models 1685 for example have manual backup up, but not the 1575. Same for the awning, either of these will failures will create a "dead in the water" situation, something I do not want.

RE: travel trailer

" Not too sure where 10K estimate comes from."
simple math, the OP said they had a $21k budget, The Escape with winter package is around $31k or $10k difference!!

RE: travel trailer

You will need to add another $10k to around $30K to get a new Escape 19' that sleeps 4 and built for winter use in Canada with extra 360 insulation, double pane windows, spray foam on the tanks with 12v heaters, solar that should keep you comfortable with electric hookups down to -0-, I know because I own one.

RE: Shortest trailer w/full slide?

I had a 2012 Lance 1575 and they have some slide issues with the Schwintek system. There is no backup and if it sticks while on the road, you may be SOL. I would never but a slide without some sort manual backup.

RE: Hiya! Winter Heating Question from a Newbie!

It all boils down to money, You will need at least $20k for a good used Bigfoot or Escape trailer made for winter use. Mine has extra 360 insulation, dual pane windows, enclosed tanks and tank heaters and solar package.I carry a heated water hose. That said, I would not camp in the winter more than one night without electricity below freezing. You can not eliminate your safety net, electric heat.
Take an extra year and rather than try to build/modify an older trailer, use this time to earn more money and purchase a trailer made for the extremes and then find an electric site.

RE: Looking to buy: <25 ft. & 4 season advice

If you want a 4 season trailer that will not leak, Escape Industries in Chilliwack, BC is coming out with a 21' model and currently has a 19' both of which are solid molded f/g without any wood in th walls, fully insulated with double pane Hehr windows, optional spray foam on tanks with heaters. I know, I have one.

RE: Really Big Slide Out problem! I need help badly!

there are no cables in this system, just 2 12v electric motors on a cog wheel system, you must remove the motor if you need to slide the system in/out manually, the motor is what locks the slide.

RE: Really Big Slide Out problem! I need help badly!

This happened on my 2 month old Lance 2012 1575,it had the Schwintek system and one side would go out and the other didn't resulting in the whole slide bing stuck out crooked. Spent 3 weeks in shop, $1200 repaid which Lance reimbursed. But without a manual backup I was afraid to being stuck on the road and not being able to retract. Sold the unit at a $4k loss. Never would but another slide without manual backup.

RE: Lightweight Travel Trailer - Purchase Decision

cpaharley,
Which of the trailers is your favorite?
The Escape 19, my present trailer is the best, the T@da would be my 2nd choice.
