RE: Vacancies at de Alba?

We talked to someone who came through the Emerald Coast a week ago and reported it is almost deserted!

RE: Papers not turned in...

I suspect the records from that far back have not found their way into any database and they probably never will. Just apply and if they find records of the old one, apologize and be prepared to pay a fine of (probably) $100 or $200 pesos.

RE: Anybody in Chetumal. How are the vacancies looking.

We got into the Mayabell with our 31 foot Class C with the car attached for a total of 50'. There are trees and a tight turn as you enter and if someone is parked there you will have to stop and go find them. It was the manager parked there in our case. Some of the spots are low and will get pretty muddy if it rains. The row nearest the road to the ruins is the driest. It is a very unique park and the sound of the monkeys is something it will take you a long time to forget. We will be there in the New Year

RE: Streets & Trips in Mexico

I was very surprised to find how well my Nuvi works in Mexico without the Mexico chip. It shows the road and where you are on it. You can pick a destination from a list and it will lead you there with a highlighted line but no annoying voice directions. Not all the roads are on it, only the main ones and no newer roads or city streets but it is still a big help. Much better than nothing.

RE: Streets & Trips in Mexico

I have MapPoint 2009 and it is pretty good in Mexico. I do not have a GPS receiver with it but will buy one for next year. The program is very good for getting mile by mile directions. What did we ever do before computers?

RE: Motorhome rental?

I have never heard of one anywhere in Mexico and doubt very much if one exists. You hardly ever see an RV with Mexican plates.

RE: Winters i Mexico

Feel free to peruse our Blog on RVing in Mexico. It is much different than RVing in the USA but we love it. Have a read.

RE: Toll road "tourist rate"

We are a motorhome towing a car on a dolly. We were charged all over the map, sometimes as two vehicles, sometimes as four axles and sometimes five axles (they counted the one on the dolly). Now, as soon as I pull up to the booth I say "quatro!" and I have never been charged anything other than the four axle rate since I started doing this. Maybe they think I know something....

RE: motorhomes in Mexico???

This is the third winter we have spent traveling around Mainland Mexico and we have had no problems that we did not create ourselves. In my opinion it is safer here than in the USA. There is a link to our Blog below. Click it and experience Mexico through our eyes. We have never joined a caravan and never will. I like to be on my own schedule and plan my own route. We are parked in beautiful San Miguel de Allende for a month and then will move on to the Yucatan.

RE: Dolores Hidalgo to Guanajuato

I will never take the MH near Guanajuato again! Like Rob says, it cost me a roof last time. This time we used the Celaya route and had no problems. Guanajuato is not to be missed but unhook the toad and use it or a taxi to go there. The signs are very confusing and it is very easy to take the wrong turn and find yourself heading into the tunnels. Be careful!

RE: Help needed with trip planning...

There is a nice campground very near Chihuahua. It is owned by the Pemex station. We stayed there as couple of days. There is lots to see in Chihuahua, don't miss the Pancho Villa Museum.

RE: Trouble finding its way finally to Nogales area!

This is good advice wherever we cross. Get at least 100 KM past the border before you stop for the night.

RE: Bypass around Pueblo. Catemaco vacancies right now.

there is an RV park just before Puebla that is an easy on/off from Mex 15. I am not near my book right now but it is called "Americas" something. It is close to a mall.

RE: San Miguel RV Park San Miguel Mexico

We were in your park last night visiting Les and Sara from Nanaimo but assumed you were in the 40 footer so did not look for you. We are at the Siesta for a month if you are about... Croft & Norma Randle

RE: The best route from San Miguell to Veracruz.

Italian Coffee Company are located all across Mexico and serve excellent coffee as well as free WIFI. I have only run into one that did not have it - probably the same one Glen found.

RE: Allowable amount of alcohol/wine to take into Mexico?

Chilean and Argentinian wine is available at a reasonable cost throughout Mexico and is as good as any California wine. The one thing you cannot find in Mexico is good Single Malt, and that is what I bring in. I like John & Angela' statement: "Enter Mexico with the same respect you would expect someone to enter your country and all will be well."

RE: Survey of Safe and Unsafe States in Mexico

I suspect the bars on windows, steel spikes and broken glass on top of walls serves to reduce or eliminate break-ins to the point where insurance rates drop to a much more reasonable rate than in Canada and the USA. We have never had a theft from our RV in Mexico. We leave folding furniture out all night or when we leave for the day and the cooler full of beer and pop is always outside the door. I believe the average Mexican is much more honest than the average Canadian or American. I take chances down here that I would never take at home and I have never been disappointed.

RE: Guia Roji

I have never seen an English language edition but the Spanish is not hard to negotiate. I would not even bother looking for the English version. We are working with the 2009 edition which we bought at an OXXO store near the border.

RE: Cost of Travel in Mexico...

John & Angela and crandle, How does your Mexico expenses compare to home expenses if you did not travel to Mexico? What is/would be the biggest difference? rocmoc n AZ/Mexico It has been a few years since we have been home for the winter but I believe we would be spending more if we stayed home. Our friends like to go out for dinner lots and costs for entertainment and dining out at home are much higher.
