RE: Towing S-10 4WD

If the S10 has the 4 button transfer case switch (auto,2hi,4hi and 4lo) it can be towed 4 down. You put it in N by holding down 2 of the buttons at the same time,I believe it is the 2hi and 4hi buttons,it's in the manual. If the S10 has the 3 button transfer case switch (no auto) the driveshaft has to come out.

RE: Ford E450 Tire Size

A significant increase in tire diameter will result in a significant decrease in braking power.

RE: creative snow removal ideas

I always park the MH with the nose 6" higher than the rear.Never had a problem with removing snow,I don't do that. The angle stops any pooling of melt water and so far,no leaks anywhere.

RE: Defined benefit pension and loans

I recently retired on a defined benefit pension and did a refi after retiring. I'd suggest you get whatever financing, loans etc. done before retiring.Even if you have stellar credit, your debt to liability ratio will likely change and lenders really question the reliability of retirement income, especially when you are just transitioning into retirement. In my case, there was also a 3 month delay in the monthly payment that was unexpected. That being said, retiring at 56 and being able to survive without picking up a gig at walmart is priceless.

This is the operating manual for the Champion Model 46514 Generator

FYI Here is a link to a AVR that works in this generator for cheap. You do need to massage an unused piece of casting under the original mounting point to allow this one to sit in the original spot.Easy 2 minute job with a dremel tool, other than that an exact plug in fit.Just replaced that AVR on mine due to high voltage.I adjusted the hertz to 60 and the voltage as per the manual and she purrs like a kitten.

RE: Champion model 46514 generator Max ouput power

I own this generator (and love it). To clarify, you can get 3500 watts at 120v --OR-- 3500 watts at 240v. At 120v this is 30 amps, at 240v this is 15 amps.
As a practical matter, 3500 watts streaming is difficult to achieve. As the machine gets hotter it gets less efficient, and the longer it runs it gets less efficient, etc etc etc.
ALSO: Do not forget that this 120/240 switch has an aggravating middle option where NOTHING is selected and nothing will work. Only an issue on dark and rainy or snowy days when your power is out and you need it most.
Um,that would be the off position. If it aggravates you,try one of the on positions. And the easiest way to get more power is to buy a bigger generator.

RE: Using a tire plug as an emergency fix

I'd suggest that if you are going to carry and rely on a plug kit for an emergency fix, that you get an old tire that holds air and drill a hole in it and install a plug. It's an easy procedure, but takes some experience to get the feel of it.Pushing the glue coated needle in the tire needs to be felt a few times or you will lose the plug in the tire. You also need to get the feel of the hole reamer too. Also once you open the glue tube, you need to replace it as the solvent evaporates and the glue won't work.

RE: Welding on motorhome - precautions?

...involve some welding. What precautions need to be done to protect the electronics in the motorhome?...
In the next week I am going to do welding the chassis of my own RV. The most important thing is to place the ground clamp as close to the weld joint as possible (and directly on the same piece if possible).
I'll be leaving ALL the batteries connected.
I made mentioned of leaving the batteries connected in an earlier post. All that removing the batteries does is to protect the batteries. What protects all the electronics? The batteries are a significant protection device for the electronics. Why would you want to remove the protection from all of your expensive electronics?
Good reminder for me to take before and after pictures after I do my own work.
ALL the electronics are connected to both sides of the battery, all share a common ground, that being the negative side of the batteries which also is attached to the chassis of the vehicle. All recommendations from experienced welders are to disconnect the batteries before welding on a chassis. Some also recommend disconnecting especially sensitive electronic devices like computers, gps, cameras etc before welding. Be a rebel at your own risk, how hard is it to just disconnect a couple of terminals?

RE: Welding on motorhome - precautions?

Well I guess the theory is that DC voltage is a closed loop system that requires mechanical connections. Those connections need to be broken and the common point that they all merge is the batteries.Once the common connection is broken, the electrical devices should be isolated from damage by pass through voltage from the welder. That is also why it is vitally important to place the clean welding ground as close to the weld as possible. You could for instance weld on the hitch with a ground placed on the alternator, but you would probably ruin every bearing and electrical device in between. It's never a drop dead safe procedure to weld in place, stuff can happen.

RE: Serpentine belt replaced?

Should be no problem if it just snapped. If it shredded, you need to inspect the area behind the lower pulley (harmonic damper) to make sure there are no strands wrapped around it.That will take out the front seal and happens quite often. There will be a routing diagram somewhere under the hood and you need to release the tensioner to install the belt.

RE: Vintage Travco...Please Vote.. Restore or Trash??

Clean it up and advertise it on vintage RV sites. There are clubs and collectors for the Travcos. Restore it if you want to,just give people a chance to buy a piece of history before you scrap it.

Bad idea unless you have a way to route the exhaust directly outside the vehicle.you will be amazed how much heat will accumulate in a short time by the generator under load.

We solved this problem on a boat (full time shore power) by adding a timer into the charger circuit. On for a couple of hours a day,and off the rest.

RE: i had shocks put on but rv hits bump and...

Oh, its on a ford f53 chassis...sorry about that
Thats a Ford E350 chassis.Should ride smooth. You could have a defective shock,it's fairly common where one won't compress and rides like it's solid.Or if they put shocks on it for a F53 chassis, they might be too long and bottomed out. That rig has 16" wheels with load range D or E and should max out at 80 psi. I run mine at 50 in the rear duals and 60 on the steer tires.
