RE: Sealand toilet leaking. Where?

The valve body had a slight leak. On closer inspection I found a hairline crack. I sealed it with plastic sealant of some sort and no more leak.

RE: Get out and go... while you still can! (A whiney rant)

Desert Captain, you have a high tolerance for a lot of issues. From my experience with one knee replacement and the other to be in July; one must take antibiotics before any dental work to protect the knee replacement from infection, long term limping with a bad knee can destroy ones lower back.

RE: Border Agents rude and difficult at Nogales

Never have we been mis-treated or felt the least bit uncomfortable crossing into the United States either from Canada or Mexico over the last 13 years in a motor home. Border agents have been understanding, polite and professional, even when we made the mistake by going through the truck x-ray shed, and once with 120lbs. of onions. Tom

RE: Any one else need a hard hat in their RV ??

funny....our dogs lounging on the couch are only too quick to move when they sense an overhead cupboard opening...I too have learned to take cover.

RE: Border wait times!

which reminds me, the wait at Benjamin Hill (the Mexican check point, if that is where it is) can be a much longer wait than the border if signaled over to inspection. I thought I had seen it all, going by we saw a coffin dressed in flowers being hauled out of the funeral car for inspection. An unlucky Safari who had passed me twice during the day was pulled over and we never saw him again, even with almost 2 hours at KM 21. I have seen vehicles there have every container and package opened while we waited...the last time thru. This time I think the use of Spanish with a smile helped allow us to pass.

RE: Border wait times!

Crossed at Nogales on the 20th of March. About a half hour in line and 15 minutes from the time pulling into the most left lane for U.S. customs. Important to note here; the extreme left lane was not open. An officer appeared just in time to divert me out of another lane into the closed left lane. It is a courtesy as they think it will be easier navigating from the far left lane. So they open that lane if they see a motorhome etc. So no problem going through Nogales, save the awkward approach driving on the left side of the road, while trucks etc. are on the other side of the concrete median while still in Mexico. It is well signed to get over on the other side of the barrier. KM 21 was a hoot. Handed in the tourist visa where we received them. The officer had no idea what to do with it or where to put it. I think it went in the garbage can. Canceled my ten year on the motorhome but there were conflicting model numbers and therefore required the services of the higher up. He was jogging with his phone turned off. He appeared an hour and forty five minutes later looking fit and in a good mood. His approval sent us on our way....all our paperwork in order.

RE: Do not move your car if you have an accident

I'll second that having been involved in an accident. Do not move the vehicles. I would also suggest an overhead drawing of the incident...the drawing sure saved a lot of time and language. Interesting though...the driver involved grabbed another work truck going by and left a different driver with his truck. Good to take pictures of all involved too;and as fast as you can. The vehicles were driven to the police station under escort by the police. The adjusters arrived 2 and 3 hours later. They haggled in the national language for another 3 hours until we produced some empty beer cans from the truck. Finally arrived home after midnight. No fun. This year I knocked a car mirror off. I offered the driver 300 peso's ... he agreed so I gave him 400. It is the way of handling small claims.

RE: Is it just me?

yes, many did leave earlier, but most of those arrived earlier too. I noticed this only around Maz. Most put in their 4 months.

RE: Insurance!

ICBC, the British Columbia Government operated insurance program covers nothing while in Mexico as far as I know; but after a 45 day verifiable length of time, you are refunded (if claimed) the time spent in Mexico from your policy.

RE: Where are all the RV'ers?

Lots of spaces in Mar Rosa, Fernando and Bartolo . Maz is being patrolled like never before. Keep your stuff locked up if its fancy. One rv er lost his jeep in the Walmart parking lot. Most of all watch for the all you can drink deals serving 2 dollar a gallon rum, vodka and or tequila, something this side of acetone. They will tell you its bacardi or Olso Negro.....its not. Have a good trip. Tom

RE: 2006 TIP

"What a system" is right. My understanding is: if you purchased a ten year TIP, (temporary import permit) before passports were mandatory, the ten year TIP is not in the system; no wonder it takes so long to do anything about it! I have a new TIP on the motor home. The old, but not expired ten year TIP is in the glove box attached to a piece of the old windshield. Don't ask, don't tell. Rather than stir the pot, I came prepared, however I was told by the TIP people that they had no record before mandatory passport time, and not to worry about it...years ago.

RE: intermittent starting problem

I have an 86 p37 454 carburetor. It has 144 thousand miles on it. There are 2 tanks with an electric switch valve. The switch valve has been replaced as it was restricting fuel flow from the rear tank. The rear tank is located at the very rear of the 37 foot coach. There is no aux electric pump in the tank or on the rail. The stock mechanical fuel pump works to supply all the fuel required to run the engine at any RPM within reason. I have replaced the fuel pump once at approx 90 thousand miles. Fuel will run back out of the line leading to the carb. I have noticed this since installing a plastic filter as opposed to the "in the carb pencil filter" with steel lines. The stock mechanical fuel pump quickly brings the gas back up when starting the engine. My 2 cents; ask your carb rebuilder if the floats were replaced and adjusted accordingly.

RE: intermittent starting problem

I replaced my carburetor with a new one.A reason for this was all the information I read about fuel bowel floats and other wear parts that are critical to proper operation. From what you have stated, I would go back to the carb rebuild.

RE: So just how did you come up with your screen name here???

It was printed out on the front and sides of the motor home, so I knew how to spell it.
