RE: Do buy local or drive to save money?

I tried to work with 3 dealers that carried the Jayco Designer line within a 100 miles of our home. Best I could get was around $7-$8K Higher than what RV Direct quoted me. I was willing to go $2500 MORE to stay local, but the local dealers just wouldn't budge. Even had one tell me there was absolutely no way I could get "that" trailer for "that" price. They all told me I would be put at the bottom of the list for service, if I didnt buy from them! I went ahead and bought from RV Direct and drove 1500 miles one way to pick it up. When I needed service I went to my local dealer and met with the Service Manager. Told him what the salesman said and he laughed. He said sales people will tell you anything for a sale. I've had no issues with service ... CRUZ

RE: Jayco Brake Wiring

We picked up our 5'er in Des Moines 2 years ago. On the way back home to AZ we lost the brakes coming into Albuquerque. One of the very thin wire ties had broken, which allowed one of the wires to rub clean thru against the drum. Fortunatley my Prodigy Brake Controller warned me of the short, so I was somewhat prepared. When we got to the campground I started trouble shooting and was quite surprised at how the wiring was held in place, and yes, of the flimsy interconnect design as well. BTW ... Camping World in West Albq took great care of us on that trip. CRUZ

RE: Who is behind the wheel?

My wifes daily driver is our Chevy 3500 Dually. She LOVES it and prefers taking the truick whenever we travel (without the fiver). She drove ONCE with our old 2500 chevy hooked up to the 5'er ... drove a little over 25 miles just so she could say she did it ...... ONCE !! :h Fortunatly, I love to drive, and she's an excellent traveler. Cruz

RE: Designer 35RLTS and Jayco Talk...Thanks Frank!!

If we are all serious about this I can offer to try and get one together here in Michigan somewhere, assuming most of you would be willing to come... Speaking of biased ... Wouldn't everyone rather the mountains of Northern Arizona? :B

Other than living in the thing full time now, our current plans are for a trip up to the Oregon Coast for a week over 4th of July. (both of us still working ... for now ... :B ) But would be interested in a "Designer" Gathering !! Heck ... maybe even get L&M to entertain us all ??? CRUZ

RE: Designer 35RLTS and Jayco Talk...Thanks Frank!!

Congrats and what a Christmas present for the both of you !!! We celebrated 2 years since we took delivery of our 35RLTS the end of November, by moving into it full time! OK ... so it's only been 2 weeks, but we are absolutely LOVING it !! Everything we own now is either in a 10x20 storage unit or in our 5th wheel ... it is so "liberating" I can't explain it. We close on the sale of our house in one week. The appraisal came in and looks like everything is in order for an on time close ! :) No plans beyond that ... but just knowing we "can if we wanna" is sooooooo cool ! Hope everyone has a very Merry Christmas ... or a Happy Holiday, however you choose to celebrate. Howard & Beth

RE: Furnace on or off?

Off ... our slides cover a couple of the vents, ... but I still would not run the furnace while traveling. Even in very cold weather, over the course of an 8 hour day, the trailer didn't even get close to freezing temps ! I do travel with the fridge on though ... :h CRUZ

.... Also congratulations Cruz, I sincerely hope that the sale of your home proceeds without any issues. .... never did get any details on the problem with the water heater, the dealer just replaced the thermostats. Cheers, Dave THX Dave ... All the inspections went well, now just waiting on the appraisal. We're really cleaning house and intend on moving into the 5th Wheel in the next few weeks. We're both very excited to experience that "freedom" we've heard so much about ! Picked a very nice 55+ park just outside Prescott Valley to call home for awhile. RE: Water Heater ... What happened ... was it not heating ?? Look forward to seeing you both next month ! Have a safe trip down. CRUZ

RE: slipping dishes

We put that non-slip shelf liner in, and that's it. Nothing in between, nothing to hold the glasses ... even leave the toaster on the counter top when traveling. Don't even tie down the dinet chairs (although we do strap the 2 recliners together.) Haven't lost anything yet !!! CRUZ

Congratulations, Cruz!!!! How exciting. You've got a LOT to be thankful for this Thanksgiving! Actually holding our breath until all inspections and appraisals are done. Really don't see any issues ... but you just never know.

RE: Looking for a specific floorplan

Take a look at this one. I happened to walk into it at a local dealer just yesterday ... doesn't interest me, but it sounds like what you're describing. I have no idea of price point on these. Monte Vista 35RB-MV That's not just a couch ... it's also a long U shaped Dinet! Is this what you had in mind? CRUZ

RE: Designer 35RLTS and Jayco Talk...Thanks Frank!!

Hey everyone ... Hope you all have a great Thanksgiving ! We too were planning a weeklong trip, but that changed when we got an offer on our house this past weekend! 6 weeks to clean up and move out! :S That ... and a minor surgery scheduled for 2nd week of December, pretty much has us scrambling over the holidays. Decided to move into the fiver, probably by mid December. Since it gets cold up here I'll need to get some heat tape for the water hose ... anyone give some pointers here? Looking forward to sitting back, taking a deep breath, and then deciding what the heck we're gonna do now.!?!? Anyway ... Lots happening back here !! CRUZ

RE: Crazy progressions?

Interesting !! My wife stopped tent camping when we got married too!! :h 1st pop-up was a small one I pulled behind my Honda Goldwing back in the mid to late 90's Then the kids wanted to go, so bought a 1999 Coleman Pop-up ... and used it almost every weekend! Graduated to a 24' Trail Cruiser Hybrid in 2005 ... We were "empty nesters" by the end of 2007, so treated ourselves to the combo in Sig. Now we're spoiled rotten and lovin' it ! :B CRUZ
