RE: Nice campgrounds PA to ME
Thanks for all the suggestions. My idea of a "nice" campground
is one I can get in and out of (40'), fairly level sites with pull throughs one that has few permanent residents.
If I can change your route a little, for the better..in MHO,is to stay on I-81 to I-78 to I-287 north to I-87 north to Newburgh,NY and get on I-84 there...a much better ride than I-84 to Scranton....Then if you do , there is a great campground on I-78 in Kutztown @ exit 40...called Pine Hill Campground..fits your description of nice
Also in West Va on I-81, you have a decent campground called Fallings Waters in a town of the same name...exit 23....Chuck
RE: savannah area campgrounds
Who has stayed in the area? Looking for a full hookup site w/50 amp elec. for our 35' MH with toad in late July. DH and I are looking forward to a return visit for Bele Chere and Biltmore. Will be there 4 days. Yeas and Nays for area CGs would be appreciated. Thanks. (sorry for the double posting. How to delete this?)
Over time,we stayed in all the ones mentioned here and have found Hardeeville-Thomas in Hardeeville to be the best to get into Savannah....nice campground...Chuck
RE: Tallahasse, FL
This is my goto forum whenever I travel. So I am hoping I can get a little advice from someone. I have a question concerning an area in Tallahasse. We are not traveling in our RV, but by car to Disney World. We want to stop in Tallahasse for the night. There are a lot of hotels and restaurants at Exit 199 (N Monroe St). If anyone can tell me if this is a safe area it would be greatly appreciated. I chose this exit since it seems to be getting us out of rush hour traffic in morning (I hope).
There is so much info available about RV parks, but so little when trying to find a hotel.. I guess because there are just so many..
Thanks so much..
That's the exit to stay at..quite safe and gas , a great choice of resturants to go to...just south of I-10 there is a Long Horn,a Hooters, a Cracker Barrel...Red Lobster plus a choice of hotels....Chuck
RE: Maryland coast to up to Mystic?
1971 was the last time we we have driven anywhere on the East coast north of Virginia.
Mid May, we will be at Assateague Island NS (Ocean City, Maryland) and moving to near Mystic. Google maps thinks we can go through NYC, 366 miles in 6 hrs 12 minutes.
Sure.
Can this be done in a day? It looks like we could swing wide inland and north around NYC, cross the Hudson on the Tappan Zee bridge, avoid some tolls and only add 60 or so miles.
I grew up in Ct..drove thru all those areas both for free and getting paid....hated the roads and traffic either way..too me driving thru Atlanta at rush hour beats these NE roads at midnite...now, understand, this is my view
I now go I-81 to I-78 to I-287 north to I-87 north to Newburgh,NY then pickup I-84 and cross the Hudson on the Newburgh bridge....less people by far and less dollars by far..the extra miles don't compare to the more people and traffic any other way and the extra fuel I'd burn sitting on the cross bronx or dodging the pot holes that exist there...Chuck
RE: Campground/RV Park Sturbridge MA, Oct. 2013
We will be in Sturbridge MA October, 2013 for a 4 day family reunion. We have been advised to find a campground close to the meeting location (Sturbridge Host Hotel) due to high traffic in the area. It appears to me none of the camping choices in close proximity have good reviews. We would not need extra amenities...just a place to park the Casita to have a place to rest and relax following reunion activities, but full hookups preferred. We are retired and do not travel with pets. Any suggestions or personal experience advice concerning RV parks or campgrounds in that area would be greatly appreciated.
Allen & Cindy
there is not a real good choice in the area,if you want to be close..Normandy farms is just too far away for you to even consider....I'd say, jellystone, you won't be there that long and it is close to hotel...Chuck
RE: PA - Georgia Stop Over
thanks for the suggestions...
freebie is nice, but no qualms with a $20-$30 stay. on our last big trip, we stayed one night at a walmart and I have no problem with that, I just know that not all walmarts are allowing this anymore... so it's good to know of ones that do.
another night on that trip we spent at one of those campgrounds posted on the interstate and it was super shady!
well you have the Flying J just north of Richmond to stay in...like a Wal-Mart.....then farthur south , that Walterboro,,Green Acres is an easy in or out from 95....then it is just a jump into Ga.....I know the Wal-Mart in Savannah has overnight parking all the time...around exit 116...Chuck
RE: Cypress Camping Resort
Thanks for the info. We like quiet family atmosphere. Two kids 9 and 6.We tried Pirateland but it was too crowded but otherwise very nice. We love Willow Tree but just thought we might try something different. We usually go to the beach one day out of our time so thats not a problem. I will give them a call.
In that case you will like Cypress. Close enough to the action to go there and enjoy it. Far enough away to leave it and relax.
WE AGREE, THE OTHER "BIG 3" ARE JUST TOO HECTIC...CYPRESS IS just 10 minutes from whatever you want..Chuck
RE: Charleston SC
Will be visiting my daughters in Charleston March 27-April 1. I have reservations at James Island for the first 2 Nights. May move over to KOA, Mt Pleasant....any newer parks open in the past 2-3 years?
I like Oak Plantation ,myself...i liked James Island, but last time I went in ,I lost
one of my air horn off and smashed one of my a/c cover from a vine hanging down on the road into the park...Chuck
RE: 90 west or 80 west out of new england?
Why not I-90 (or I-87, depending on how you come out of NH) to Albany area, I-88 SW to Binghamton, then pick-up I-81 south to I-80. Eliminates much of your NYS tolls, avoids the NYC metro area, takes you through some nice areas (go right past Cooperstown). and at's a relatively low traffic volume route.
this seems like the best route ,yet....and when you get to 80W in Ohio, the rest area..not all ,but most, have RV parking with 30/50 amp ,dump station and water...the RV parking is separate from all other parking....and the first rest area as you get to Oh from Pa...has RV parking ...Chuck
RE: Richmond,va to valdosta,ga

Amy,
in Va just north of Richmond, you have Kings Dominion, which is a campground and a good size amusement park....good for a day or 2 stay....
In Savannah, and I just sort of guess your only transportation will be the RV....you can park the RV at the info ctr...they have spots for RV parking and then can use the trolley, horse and wagon to see the city...Chuck
Thanks Chuck. Do you know if you can park over night at the info center? We have family in the city we want to stay with one night

RE: Splendide Ariston Dryer - Lemon????
When we purchased our 2011 Itasca Ellipse it came with the Splendide Ariston TVM63X stack dryer unit. In just over 26 months the dryer has now died for the 4th time. Lucky for us, the first two times were within the original manufacturers warranty period and were fixed at no charge to us. These repairs included (1) bad thermostat and (2)new motor. In December of this year the dryer died once again. The initial problem was that the drum would no longer spin. I contacted Splendide and was told that the most likely issue was a broken belt. Once we were able to get the dryer removed from the coach (which is another story by itself) we found the belt to be working properly. The dryer was put back together and retested only to find that it no longer put out any heat. After several days of testing it was finally determined that the problem was again the thermostat as well as a capacitor. Parts were ordered and the unit repaired finally two weeks ago. As of yesterday the dryer once again no longer puts out any heat. I am beginning to think that we are the proud parents of a very expensive "Lemon". We have had other Splendide products in the past and have been very pleased with them but this one seems to be possessed. I have contacted Splendide via email and am waiting for their response but do not hold out much hope. Any suggestions or similar experiences anyone wishes to share. Misery loves company as everyone knows!
we have the same model and in six (6) months had to repair the belt..repair guy said it is the worst dryer he has seen on the market...Chuck
RE: Cabela's, East Hartford, CT
Now, a question for you...going to a Univ of Pitt ve FSU in Pitt on labor day....any good place to park 4 or 5 motorhomes...Chuck
yes I will be coming in 84 trying to avoid NYC on Memorial Day weekend if you are coming in for the game and tailgating, the parking lots
around Heinz Field are substantial enough but I am not sure what they are charging. If you are looking for a place to stay close by, I cannot think of anything. The Rivers Casino is next door but they have a parking garage and to be honest I can't think of anything close by that is RV friendly. If you have never been to Pittsburgh, you will know what I mean once you get here. Give me some time and i will see what I can come up with.
Not going til Labor Day and never been to Pitt....
the directions I gave you are not as bad as they look....and Rt 9 is a 4 lane divided hwy just like an interstate.....Chuck
RE: Any Campgrounds open in March near Pittsburgh, PA
I have to take a trip out to Elkhart,IN in mid-March and wanted to know if there are any campgrounds open at that time, since that would be a alfway point for stopping.
Thanks for info,
Dave
Dave,
on the Ohio tpk...I-80 the rest areas have RV spaces with a dump station, water and 20/30/50 amp elect for $20.00 a night....really a nice deal and seperate from the rest of the rest area....the first rest area coming in from Pa is one of them...Chuck
RE: Cabela's, East Hartford, CT
Thanks for the info everyone, I have come across the parking at Mohegan Sun and even though it may be a little more driving the first day to get there right now it is a strong possibility. I have given thought to the Cracker Barrel for an overnight stay, just trying to gather as much information as I can in advance to plan a smooth trip.
Not sure how you are coming into Ct..but if on 84, then after Waterbury take I-691 to I-91 north to rt 9 south......to I-95 north to I-395 to exit 78A to the Sun....a little shorter than going all the way into Hartford
Now, a question for you...going to a Univ of Pitt ve FSU in Pitt on labor day....any good place to park 4 or 5 motorhomes...Chuck
RE: Mpls to Myrtle Beach SC
What about Cypress Camping Resort in Myrtle Beach. We have never stayed there, but we have heard great things about it. We hear it is not on the beach, but on the intracoastal waterway. Maybe someone on here who has stayed there can tell you more. It is a new park.
We stayed there over last year's 4 th of July...we had 2 motorhomes...and 2 very active little boys..5 and 3....We had a great time there..it is on the inland waterway....and watched the boats go back and forth..they rent pontoon boats at a reasonable rate and we took one out for a half day and had a great ride..the pool, while not huge, is great for anyone's use...they have a nice rest on property and had a few lunches there and found the food to very good...what I really enjoyed was the boys could use their bikes and play without ducking cars and speeding golf carts....it also is not a hard or long ride to any other attractions in the MB area....We, will definitely go back to Cypress Resort...Chuck

RE: Ride-Rite air springs
I am considering putting Ride-Rite air springs on my 2012 motorhome. I have a Ford F53 24,000 lb chassis. Looking for feedback - will it help with the ride or not. Thanks for any input.
It has been awhile but we had a 1987 Honey class C that we put them on in the rear....we wanted them at first to raise and lower the rear to get in and out of our driveway...but then saw how well they worked when driving...we also installed a on board air compressor to do from the driver's seat
On windy days would inflate to like 60lbs, what a better ride...
I would do again in a heart beat.....was probably the best add on to any motorhome we had..now on our 6th......Chuck
