RE: Summer Trip To Mountains

craigandsue. While the area you are planning to visit is lovely and at times breathtaking, "The Mountains" are somewhat further east, ie; The Smokies, The Appalachians, The Blue Ridge, The Adirondacks, The White Mountains, The Green Mountains, etc.
Hope you enjoy your trip.
horacebcupp...hate to disagree with you but them're "hills" compared to the Rockies..check the elevations....no offense intended but been to both and it's all IMHO...

RE: Forest Service 50% off for Old Folks May Be Abolished

naive yes; it's also a little insulting to assume everyone in the RV world owns a 500k rv and is wallowing in money. Some of us SAVED all our lives for this live style and without any government handouts.
Yes, indeed! Plus my RV is 10 years old (bought new August 1999). And our toad is 11 years old.
and that makes THEM senior citizens in today's world ;):h

RE: Forest Service 50% off for Old Folks May Be Abolished

I have to ask, what public good is being served by giving a discount based on age? Previous posts have talked about "people struggling to make ends meet", but the 60+ age group is BY FAR the wealthiest segment of society. Why not give a discount instead to people struggling to make ends meet, regardless of age?
Answer: They aren't a reliable voting block, and retirees are.
Excuse me, but many of the posts I've read are nothing but self-serving whines. Don't get me wrong, whining is how you get what you want in the political system, but take a moment to consider all the segments of society who DO NOT get discounts, so you can get yours. This includes single mothers trying to raise families, veterans (under 65 and undecorated), and yes, people who cannot afford it. Why should they have to make room for you?
I realize many people here are struggling to keep up the payments on their $500,000 MH, so every $12 discount helps. But that $12 has to come from somewhere, and the likliest source will be someone WORKING too hard to take the time to vote against it.
Hope this helps.
Now there's a sermon from a greenie or is that the color of your rv??

RE: Forest Service 50% off for Old Folks May Be Abolished

Ahhhh, the USFS employees.....the next group of workers to grace the "unemployment" lines.....bureaucrats raise the camping fees of the people who are struggling to make ends meet and just want to spend some time away from the grindstone causing those people to decide against the expense of camping causing a reduction in campground utilization causing the closing of said campgrounds,etc,etc........Do I see an obvious "cause and effect" situation that none of our "representatives" give a thought to until their terms are up for reelection.......solution, replace them all until we have those in power who actually "hear" WE THE PEOPLE.....IMHO, of course (and yes I have written to all reps and several fed departments with these very sentiments)....

RE: Big Bend National Park - Can we take our dog?

As previously stated, we know our dog doesn't make a habit of barking when left alone inside...HOWEVER, if you go up to the unit and make noises you WILL hear from him....he tends to think what's ours is his TO PROTECT (and he's correct)......don't "downgrade" all dogs based on your personal experience or prejudice.....I too have had more "interference to enjoyment" from HUMAN neighbors than their dogs...IMHO, of course

RE: Winterizing

Were you running the taps to pull anti???? You may have placed most of those gallons in your waste tank???? Once it starts running out the faucets you can shut it off to there because you have filled that line...do each tap individually and then insure you have a few cups in each trap...only takes about 2.5 gal for our 35' A....IMHO, of course

RE: Tires in great shape, but getting old

My advice and practice (FWIW) is to have a HONEST tire dealer/tech inspect the tires inside and out and go with his advice.....these guys see tires every day and they specialize in their condition....IMHO, of course

RE: problems with Camping World

You specifically asked about Council Bluffs IA...yes, I had them replace our reefer with a new one. I couldn't understand why they wouldn't let us back in the coach for a number of hours. When we DID get back inside I found the reason why they delayed....they had forced the frig through the entrance door without removing the assist handle and scratched the paint off the rail. The only reason we found out was because the paint was still wet......not a word from CW when we got the unit back. People were friendly enough but NOT totally honest with their customers in our case.....IMHO, of course

RE: Durango Colo. back country

Durango is a little south of COLORADO'S BEST but would be a good "home" for the adventure lands in the high country....a good experience while in Durango would be the DSNGRR train ride from Durango to Silverton...not BOTH WAYS (MAKES A LONG DAY)....IMHO, of course

RE: dish problems

How do you make adjustments to level your Dish stand?
Personally, in the past 4 years I've been using DISH the levelling has NOT been the critical issue for alignment since the skew in DISH seems to be more for local channels than nationals......just use the signal meter to align sat 110 and then move a little up and west for 119...hasn't taken more than 15 min to set up on most occasions.....compass DOES help.....IMHO, of course

RE: dish problems

Hey FootballCamper,
I tried the upside-down setup on my first dish. I went to a verticle mount with the PVC stand and it works great. Still very low-profile and that's with a new Slimline HD dish now... Setup in a couple minutes...

Did the same thing with my DISH system when the "upside-down" version was too deep for me to fathom....also works fine with little wind resistance...IMHO, of course
