RE: TH for hauling a miata

Bear in mind I am going off my sticker with the ratings and have not weighed mine but these are them. 9150 uvw and 15000 gvw . givves me approx 5000 # capacity.I think the sticker says around 5500 but can't remember and the trailer is not here tonite . I will look tommorrow nite . I have an open unit which has no garage but utilizes right up to the kitchen. I am not sure about overall cargo space lenght as I just know I can fit my quad up into the kitchen , 2 dirtbikes and my goldwing if I pacck carefully . Check on forest rivers website for more in depth details as I don't have my specs in front of me . I do have the heavier axles under mine and they are triple which is where I do beleive I get the higher cargo capacity from.

RE: electric bed won't go up

Check to make sure the bar that goes across to the other side has not worked its way out of the socket .

RE: Cracked Floor

A lot of the problem is that sometimes the lino is only glued around the edges and not throughout the whole floor. Happens on a lot of forest river trailers and just happened to a friends roo lately . He fixed his by buying a piece of carpet and laying it over th section that was pooched . It looks really good actually , like it was installed from the factory .

RE: triple axle & tire size what's important?

I have the triple axles under my sandstorm with 15 inch tires and it seems fine . We take ours into some nasty places and have had little problems. I do find though that the spare tire is mounted to far back under the trailer and it does drag once in a while .

RE: Atwood Powerjack Extension

You will find that it is probably better to use wood blocks. I took the power jack off My Desert fox when we traded it in and put it on the Sandstorm. I only got a foot pad that pins on the very end and it gives about a 3 - 4 inch height diffrence when it is on and I use the wood to make up the diffrence. It seems to be a lot more solid that way to me.

RE: Crushed Teryx at Pismo

Well between banning quads , bikes , utvs and guns I believe we will all be better off . If we can take the tools that the seem to be the problem out of the hands of the mentaly challanged then there should be no more to fear. We all know it is the item that kills , not the person operating it. Sigh

RE: Thinking of buying a toyhauler...

WOW , I am impressed. I would not have thought you could squeeze that in to the trailer.

RE: Thinking of buying a toyhauler...

Look at the forest river Sandstorm . I have a T29 FBSP and it with the heavier axles gives me over 5000# of crgo capacity. I will never use it all and the trailer itself is over 9000# . The T34FBSP rating in over 4200# with ther lighter axles. But be warned these are heavy trailers and you would be pushing it with a 250 . I have A 1 ton Dodge and it is very noticable behind me.

RE: Securing a Honda Gold Wing

Tying down a bike aint rocket science, just make sure you tie it off to the frame and not skid bars or other decorative parts.... But just use common sense and soft ties and you should not have a problem. I agree and I always look to see how others have tied their stuff down when I can. I have never laughed so hard as the time I saw a guy who has for years (it was obvious that he did) tied his bike down to the side stand on his wood floor trailer and had the side stand wear through the plywood and fall over. I also get a kick out of the 10 straps per bike. To the guy that puts the "one over the seat." What is it that you are trying to accomplish with that strap? Wear a hole in your seat so you can get a different one? I also love the people that put 2 straps pulling the bike OUT of the wheel chock. All you are doing is putting extra strain on the two that mater buy pulling back you over load the two in the front that are keeping the bike upright. All you need for the rear is to keep it from moving side to side, THAT'S IT. As long as you limit the front from bouncing on the straps and have sufficient pull to the side you are pretty much done. I do realize there are SOME bikes out there that have some challenges to doing that successfully like the bike in question. Being safe or overdoing it is one thing but I get a kick out of the people that are actually making it worse by adding straps in places that actually work against the straps they NEED. I am just saying I have seen a lot of tie down jobs that make me wonder how the people that tie them down have sufficient grey matter to operate them once they arrive at their destination. Sorry I don't strap my bike down to your standards. I did not realize you were the one I was directing the comment to. I guess I should have been more detailed in I use my sheepskin under the seat strap . SSiigghh . The strap across the seat is extra insurance hopefully if one of the others fail to keep it up right untill I notice it. Does it help , I don't know but it is for my piece of mind. Is it affecting the other straps . No . Any other wisdom for us grey matter deprived people or are you done?

RE: Securing a Honda Gold Wing

While my wing is not as big as yours, 83 1100 , I just use a strap on each corner to the sunken tie downs and 1 across the bike seat to the side ones. Have never had a problem and I take it on some pretty bumpy roads.

RE: Warranty coverage in Canada??

Its not EH! its A. Let's not start a 'Eh' vs 'A' thread, but, in Ontario... as in Alberta it's 'Eh' Eh And in Bc , Eh

RE: Break away cable

Hook mine on the safety chain where it hooks on the hitch. My cable is short enough that it will pull the pin before the chain is pulled tight .

RE: Sandstorm factory buy back what's a good deal?

I would give it an honest ranking of mid range unit. So far most of my issues have been fairly minor. The trailer was a priced high but that was in Canada to. I have seen the same trailer in the US for about 20000 less . Don't get me wrong I like it but FR seemed to cheap out on some things compared to my last trailer which was a Desert Fox. Such as the lack of supporrts on the lower skirting , which in turn broke all my plastic wheel skirts from vibrating. The back door needs some work to beef up sealing tight. stuff you can work with. If you are getting it for a decent price , go for it. The trailer has some pretty good options , and I really liked the floor plan and the full bathroom. Overall not a bad trailer . As for the grey, black water the 40 gal is ok . I can go roughly a week or so with 5 of us and friends and be ok on the black tank , but the grey is full usally in a few days. But where I go not a big deal , I just drain it as we are hard core boon dockers. I only went through 130 gal water once and there was 8 of us using the trailer when we were hunting.

RE: Hitch Pin Hole Wear

dahammer, Mine is only bolted on as well, but to remove it you have to lift the bed and pick the hitch up off. Would have been nice if they would have made it a little easier. And, Like I mentioned earlier, appears that it should remain as a brace. I did find a Reese Titan/Tow Beast part number 45288 that fits on right underneath the OEM receiver, easiest option. But, I have to call Reese and find out why it says Long Bed Trucks only? Anyone have a Reese Titan/Tow Beast mounted on a new Dodge short bed? \ Thanks I went and had another real good look and I beleive you are correct. Thanks for the links. I will check them out.

RE: 08 28ks desert fox toy hauler

There should be a pvc pipe bolted on under the trailer on the same side as you tank valves. I used to have an 07 24AS and that is where the hose storage was.

RE: Sandstorm factory buy back what's a good deal?

It is not a bad trailer. I do have some quality issues on it. The good thing is I have a good local dealer and they take pretty good care of me. Once the issues are sorted I still like the trailer. Theonly real issue I have is the weight of it. I never realized how heavy it was. It is 9500 uvw according to the tag and it feels like it.

One my truck the OEM hitch is only bolted on , not welded like others seem to be.

RE: Keystone Passport quote analysis needed

To me a dealer for anything I buy takes priority over a savings of a few 1000$ . If you found a good dealer who is willing to take care of his customers that is what I would look at first. It is the deciding factor in a lot of my purchases , ie truck , trailer , quads ect. If the price was substancialy diffrent say , 5000$ up then I would consider broader options. But still if the dealer really is good he will try to come close to other deals you have found.

RE: Hitch Pin Hole Wear

Yep I do have the bent pin . Who woulda thunk it . As far as finding a class V reciever for the Dodge though I was sure you could get one. I hope so as I have the 07 3500 and with the weight I am packing I am almost sure I am near my limits for the hitch I have. I still have to weigh the trailer for sure but I am betting on being close to max. The trailer dry is stickered at 9500 and with the equalizer setup on it still drops the truck right down on the back. It also seems to pull the truck around pretty good so I am going to up grade for peace of mind.
