RE: 2013 Ford Explorer

I wouldn't go over a GVWR of 4000lbs. That doesn't leave you much. It probably leaves you with a HTT or ultralite. Remember don't look at dry weight but gross weight. Remember the TT is never empty or you never leave home without the family and food.

RE: Wandering Nightmare

It's not the length of the chassis. I have an 03 Chateau 26Q that handles like a dream. Check your weight (specificly behind the duals), check the air pressure on your tires (mine were at 90lbs when I bought it) lowered the duals to spec at 80 and the fronts to 75 rides real smooth, my air bags in the rear are inflated to 70 lbs. Mine isn't affected by the water tank being full or empty (the difference is about 165 lbs). My guess is too much weight past the duals. Whats in your storage bays???

RE: How to use Generator

Yes, everything should work just like being plugged in. You may a transfer switch that is not working properly or a problem with your generator. Others may have more specific information for you.

RE: 30 amp service in garage

That's what I having done when we put the sunroom on this summer. When the electrician is wiring the room I have the space on my box for 30 amp to the garage. I will run the piping to the garage prior to him arriving.

RE: Truck or SUV recommendations

Unless the F150 is newer then you may be light. I would go with a 3/4 ton truck that way if you upgrade to a heavier TT you will be covered. JMHO

RE: Sealing bathroom flooring

Go to Lowes and pick up some vinyl floor glue. Just need a very small can and then caulk the edge with tub and tile caulking.

RE: Thinking about a Class C. Anyone tow with theirs?

Unless you go diesel you will be limited to no more than 5000 lbs in towing. Most Class C gas are very limited because of the GVWR is close to max when it goes off the lot. I also don't think too many C will be able to climb at 65 mph loaded to the bear let alone pulling a large trailer. JMHO. But then I'm never in a hurry to get where I'm going.

RE: 110 power

Depends on the size of the inverter, but it should power most small things. If you need more: like AC and microwave - just run the generator. The disconnect switch is usually used when you place in storage to prevent battery drain. I have it for my coach battery in my older Allegro. Keep my current C plugged in 24/7.

RE: Hot Water

Depends on how cold the water is to start with. Mine can take 10 to 15 minutes in warmer weather and much longer in the colder times. I just kick mine on when I get up in the morning and just before we start getting ready for dinner.

RE: First time post: tire issues inside pass. rear

I agree with above posts. You are overwieght and under pressure on tires. I have an 03 Chateau 26' and I have a class III hitch rated for 5000# which is max for the 3500 GM chassis. I have my tires at 70 lbs front and 80 on the rear with is max for the duals.
You are 1000lbs over weight on the rears and running way low on pressure. Trying to pull 7000lbs so drop a grand on your loaded weight, drop 2K on the trailer and buy some good tires.

RE: Getting ready to buy a used Jayco 31FS

I would look for another unit. Too much inventory to run the chance of getting hosed. The bank will have to be involved and they will not release the title until they are paid. Save your money and go look someplace else.

RE: Campgrounds

5 girls - 6 grandkids, with 1 on the way - oldest daughter is 32 and youngest is 7. I'm a substitute teacher, all grade levels and subjects. Love the kids around when camping because thats what we had growing up. If you want quiet don't go to a public campground go to a resort. Or put in earplugs and stay inside your RV.

Depending on when you want to go you may not be able to get reservation in the state parks. The trip is great and take 101 around the "LOOP". Awsome trip.

RE: P30 Chassis

How many miles per year are you going to travel? The cost vs. paypack on gas mileage might not be worth the change. If you have replace the tranny then maybe it might pay back. I just had the tranny rebuilt on my SUV and it was $2700 and if I was going to do that on my MH it would take a long time to payback. I would leave as is JMHO.

RE: Hauling kayak's and bicylce's...

Though I don't carry kayaks I do have a cargo rack and bikerack on my Class C. I purchased the 500# cargo rack and made a mod to it so I could attach my 5 bike rack to it. All from the Class III hitch. It extends out about 3' from the back and travels nicely.

RE: Pricing Newer Class C

I can ask a million dollars for a used RV doesn't mean I'll get it. I don't pay attention to asking price. I go with what I know. As for a new one go and NADA a new one or PPL motorhomes for sold units and get a ballpark on what it is worth. They may be trying to sell inventory to reduce before the 2014's come in. Then go low on price and don't get too attached. Walk if not happy.
